Kicker
Loving Kai Forbath. I truly hope he is the answer at Kicker for us for a long time. But, it is worth mentioning that Gano signed today with the Panthers. Here's hoping he isn't David Akers all over again.

not sure what you have against Gano ... personally I hope he has a great career
I also do not care that Akers is having a great career
I hope for the best from Forbath as well ...
there will be many 'ex Redskins' - many of them might become great players for another team - there is NO guarantee that they would become great by staying in a system or with a franchise that doesn't suit their talents ..
btw - Forbath needs to improve his kickoffs ... right now, his kickoffs suck ... OR .. he could also get an opportunity to be another David Akers
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

He definitely needs to improve them....Fortunately the coverage is pretty good right now but he either needs to get more heighth or kick em deeper cuz they are line drives that are BARELY getting past the 5 yd line. However as long as he keeps making dem field goals he's cool in my book.

Forbath is a good FG kicker IMO - in order to keep his job he's got to get his kickoffs deeper
Next season we WILL have a kicker that can kick FGs AND hit deep kickoffs
Forbath will be that guy ONLY if he finds a way to kick the ball better off the tee
c'mon Kai - we need you to improve on these kicks
ESPECIALLY if we continue to score points and have more kickoffs

I disagree. If he hits every FG, there's not a chance in hell Shanny, or any other coach, cuts him. He could kick it to the 20 every time, and they'd probably just have Rocca do kickoffs, but they'd keep him for the FGs alone.

It compressed the foot... essentially makes it a harder contact surface, to put more energy into the ball...fetus wrote:what is with the smaller shoe??? what does this do?
It also places him at risk for a Morton's Neuroma at some point in the future... hopefully long after the end of his career.

Forbath demonstrated twice today that he does have the ability to line drive the kick, and push it through the endzone more quickly than the returner could react...brad7686 wrote:Historically coaches have put more onus on kickoffs than field goals, I hope shanny is smart enough to ignore the tradition. Especially with the new kickoff rules.
I think that's probably good enough, and will serve the same purpose as booming it though.

Forbath made a GREAT kick for us, AND, under BIG pressure - no question
I do think that having a kicker that is able to make a high percentage of his FGs is important, but, if the offense is going to score a lot of points, the field position off the kickoffs is also important
I think this is something he needs to improve on - Forbath needs to get that done - not too much to expect
Forbath needs to work on this is all I'm pointing out

I don't give a dam about his kickoffs. As long as he makes all of his kicks (our over 90%) I can deal with kick offs that land at the goal line. We do pay the guys that cover kicks, right?

I totally agree with having kickers that make all their FGs ... UNFORTUNATELY - I don't make the choice about who plays
Kickers that cannot consistently ENSURE bad field position for the other team are not keeping their job for very long
how hard is it to find a way to do that? As Countertrey points out - he just needs to drive it thru the end zone
Forbath only has to work on improving his kickoffs - HOW HARD IS THAT

Hear hear!!! After all the years of sweating it out for every stinkin' field goal try it's an absolute pleasure to sit back and watch a 48 yard (or 28 yard for that matter) field goal try without a drop of sweat forming on my brow. I'll take the shorter kickoffs.
We like great FG kickers .. HCs and FO guys could care less what 'we' like
Great FG kickers keep their jobs but ... if you miss 1 AND you're not making a huge effort to ensure great field position off each and every kick off, you will not have a job for long
I'm all for Forbath making every FG .. but he's got to show Mike & Danny that he's able to make better kick offs
just sayin' - get 'er done

I LOVE the fact that Forbath is making all his kicks .. AND ... these have not been easy kicks ...
I just want him to find a way to ensure decent field position on the kickoffs
Forbath is doing really well at part of his job is all I'm saying
he has a good leg - get it thru the end zone or make sure it's high enough for our players to stop the returner inside the 20

It's non issue. We don't care. Mike doesn't care. He doesn't have to do a darn thing but continue being a good kicker.
Our coverage units have been top notch for quite some time. Nobody has come close to breaking a long gainer or TD.
The road to the number 1 pick gaining speed!
Forbath is great at kicking FGs - he's NOT great at kicking off a tee
you may not care and many here may not care about that - trust me he will get better at kickoffs or we will see another even better FG kicker here that can also be a 'complete' kicker
Forbath understands this
AND
he will get better ... or he will be gone

I don't want anything
I'm just pointing to the fact that Forbath is a great FG kicker
that ...
needs to become a better kicker off the tee - hate to see him go ...
but
another great kicker will be kicking here if this one doesn't get better at the really easy task of kicking off a tee
I'm loving watching this guy's FG kicking ... I'm sure Danny Smith and Mike are watching ... and waiting also ...
