Anybody want AA back?

Post by riggofan »

http://www.realredskins.com/rich-tandle ... bound.html

Per our old friend Ryan O’Halloran, who is now reporting on the Jaguars for the Florida Times-Union, former Redskins receiver Anthony Armstrong has been released by Jacksonville.

The Redskins released Armstrong after two years with the team during the last cuts in August. He signed with the Dolphins but they released him on Oct. 30. There were some rumors that the Redskins put in a claim on him but the Jaguars had priority because they have a worse record than Washington.

If the Redskins wanted him back two weeks ago it stands to reason that they might still want him. Exactly when Armstrong was released is unclear (the Jags played last Thursday night) to team will have either from today at 4 p.m. or the same time on Tuesday to put in a claim on him.

If they do claim Armstrong, the primary candidate to be released would be receiver Dez Briscoe, who has a few dropped passes in limited opportunities. One advantage Armstrong might have is that he plays special teams while Briscoe does not. A rash of injuries this year has forced many special-teams stalwarts into increased roles on offense or defense and the team may be looking to get someone who can lighten the load on them.
I'd be interested to see who gets the boot if they put in another claim on AA.

I think it would be a great move ... I thought it was a major error to release him in the first place, while keeping Briscoe and Robinson, both unproven entities.

Armstrong is one of those mystery players who seem to have great potential (2010 he had very decent numbers and was a significant deep threat) but something seems to impede his playing time. I think an RG3 to Armstrong combination would be a powerful connection given AA's proven ability to beat coverage deep.

With Garcon out, Armstrong would fill a gap there quite well, I believe.

Might be some thinking that Garcon is headed to IR?

If Garcopn is not going to be able to make a return at all in 2012, signing AA would be a good move.

I don't know if bringing AAA back would really lead to a tremendous improvement in our WR corps. If Garcon is to basically be lost for the rest of the season....then why not as AAA already knows our system, and maybe he will be a WR that can develop a rapport with RGIII. But.....Briscoe and Robinson beat him out for the job in preseason.....so I personally would not cut either of those to make room for AAA.

WHY?

just because ... -

NO THANKS - we need the guys that are here (players AND coaches) to do better
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

OK -I'll agree with looking at that

Banks has certainly not helped his case recently ..

I'd rather get Terrence Austin back, but I agree that Banks should be replaced with someone who can contribute.

- AA, eh...

- Banks, he's done.

- I expect to see a difference at the WR going into the Eagles game. I expect we'll see more Dez Briscoe, that's if his blocking is up to par. Hankerson has been disappointing to put it mildly. A mix up needs to happen and that's the easiest place to have it occur. Moss has been productive in the slot. Morgan has been stepping up more and more but has a ways to go.

I don't think Banks is going anywhere. He was on the field for the last play against the Panthers because we just don't have anyone else that would have a chance of taking a ball to the house (not counting RG3). That isn't my opinion that is what Grant Paulsen (106.7 Skins beat reporter) said was the team's rationale.

Banks hasn't broken a long PR for several reasons and the furthest down the list is him! The D is simply not forcing very many punts and when they do a lot are from mid field so they aren't returnable. The blocking has been BAD! Of course Banks could do a better job, but he is far from the top of the list of problems on this team.

Ditch Robinson or Donnie Brasco before you ditch Banks, talk about a Banks being a non factor!!! I thought those two had gone into the witness protection program. The only thing they have done is drop multiple TDs and cost us games.

+1

And, Banks is not going anywhere. Returners often go stretches without a TD. He's got to have opportunities. I say give Briscoe more PT.

Only if he gets some stick um fit his hands. I'm tired of him dropping game changing TDs. I think he has more TD drops than catches.

I'd do that, but AA would probably be cut after the season........
