Veteran tight end Chris Cooley has agreed to rejoin the Washington Redskins, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday night.

Cooley is scheduled to undergo a physical Monday and his re-signing will become official after that, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the team had made no official announcement.

“It’s going to happen,” the person said.

I think my biggest concern is how do you use him at this point? Do you play him out of the slot or in the backfield? Do you put him on the line? I think he is to small to be on the line and I would much rather see us run a 3 WR set and keep Moss on the field more.

Cooley makes perfect sense. Fred was a big part of our offense. If we don't have another pass catching TE, it's not just that we lose those plays but it changes our offense.

I'm more than confident with Cooley and Paulsen. No worries at TE for the near future.

This is a marraige made in heavin. Just wait until RG3 discovers Cooley! If you think he was happy to discover Moss wait until he figures out that Cooley will always be open for him and be at the right place at the right time. You just got to have the right mix of youthful enthieusasm and old pro wisdom. We might be there.
Filling Fred Davis' shoes ain't gonna happen, he will be missed. If anybody can step in and Fred will give him support it is Cooley. These guys know how to work together.

Because Davis' shoe size is so much smaller than Cooley's.

Yeah, I'm gonna bet that's probably the other way around, in reality. But I get what your gettin' at.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

Fred Davis has the most catches at this point on the team. He was averaging 3.4 per game. Over the remaining season that means he would have added another 31 receptions.

Over or under 31 for Chris Cooley?

I'm going over.

I'll say over. And with at least one TD, he will have already surpassed Fred's point production.

really great to have Cooley back - however he is a different player than Davis

Davis is the better TE but I love Cooley's ability to find a way to get open

btw - what's a metaphore?
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

It will take at least 3 games for Cooley to get in game shape. That said, I am happy to have him back. Davis is the better TE, but Cooley has been a loyal skin. I personally don't think that he is done. He is only 30 and not an RB -- but we'll soon find that out.

I hope I am wrong, and this is probably not a popular statement, but Cooley is a huge step down from what we had, both as a pass catcher and a run blocker, so I wouldn't get your hopes up people.

Real great to have him back from a fans perspective, but just don't think the guy can separate and has always had trouble in the blocking department. We shall see though. I'm obviously rooting for him.

I think it's great that we have Cooley back. You know, so that he can run ghost routes when Paulsen is taking a break from being awesome!

I will be interested to see what bringing a vet back like Cooley will do for the team's morale. We've been hit with a number of key injuries this year losing playmakers on both sides of the ball. I remember how players said that Cooley was consoling them after the news that he was being let go. I'm hoping that his presence will be a nice shot in the arm to help keep the team on track moving forward.

We need to have players step up and fill the holes when starters go down. Fortunate for us, that we lose a weapon like Davis and can bring in a veteran who knows the playbook inside and out, is a "core Redskin" and a crowd favorite.

I'd love to see Cooley get back to being a clutch target inside the redzone.

I couldn't disagree more. He's a step up, both as a pass catcher and a run blocker, from Fred Davis.
Where he is a step down is speed, and jumping ability.

He will be an upgrade over Niles Paul as a TE the minute he straps on the pads. Paul may be faster but that means nothing if he cant catch.

What were talking about here is an upgrade at the position over Paul, not Davis. Also he plugs in instantly, little to no learning curve.

This move was kind of a no brainer.

Sucks for Cooley though, now hes got higher income before his divorce is finalized. Oh well, maybe playing ball will take his mind off of it.

Paul is still playing, Davis is on IR.
