King was gloating about how he LOVED the RGIII pick this year. Confirms his genius, I guess.

There’s few football writers I respect and trust as much as Sports Illustrated’s Peter King. I’m sure most in the league agree with that statement, as well.

So when King says that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is going to lead his team to multiple Super Bowl titles, I can’t help but get a little bit giddy.

King broke out his crystal ball and made the projection this morning in his weekly “Monday Morning Quarterback” column.

Oh, and he also compares Griffin III to Irish musician and U2 front man Bono.

But back to Super Bowls.

King said it won’t be long until the Redskins have built around Griffin III enough to capture multiple titles:

“Watching this game, I kept thinking how glad I was that Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen paid whatever it is they paid to deal for Griffin,” King wrote. “And whatever it is, it’ll be worth it. He’s one of the great, special players to come into the league in the 29 seasons I’ve covered it. No play’s ever over. Though he’s running for his well-being on 10 or 12 plays a game, he still leads the NFL after seven games of his rookie year with a 70.4 percent completion rate. Once he gets the kind of protection Shanahan and Allen will build for him, he’ll be better, and the Redskins will be competing for championships. That’s right — plural.”

King also talked about the cringes and then “oohs” and “ahhs” reverberating from an NBC viewing room by Rodney Harrison, Tony Dungy, Dan Patrick, Mike Florio and others as they watched Griffin III and the offense convert on a critical 4th and 10 play late in yesterday’s game vs. the New York Giants:

“I always judge the mark of an incredible play in an NFL game by the reaction it gets in the NBC viewing room on the fifth floor of our Rockefeller Center building in Manhattan,” King wrote. “And when Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III had a 4th-and-10 with 2:07 left at the Meadowlands, his team down 20-16 to the Giants, this is the sound I recall hearing from the likes of Rodney Harrison, Tony Dungy, Dan Patrick, Mike Florio and a score of other football wackos in the room as Griffin took the snap, looked for a receiver, found them covered, then rolled left, Giants chasing him — “Getridofit! … Noooooo! …. Whoaa!!! … Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!”

Sounded louder than “Born To Run” at a Springsteen concert. Somehow, some way, as the law was closing in, Griffin, stumbling forward, threw a low 19-yard strike to tight end Logan Paulsen.”

King was so impressed by Griffin III that he ended his column with a haiku about the Redskins rookie:

Love football? Me too.
Learned one thing in Week 7:
RGIII’s something.

Though I read/skim his column each week, I typically find that King has very little insight. He's bad enough on football, and then as soon as he wanders beyond that to the things in life that are actually meaningful, it gets comically bad.

So, I don't really put any stock in his prediction here. It's very difficult to achieve multiple championship appearances (much less wins) in today's NFL, and a good number of highly talented players either never get there or do so only once. RGIII cannot do it by himself, and if we're honest we have yet to see whether Shanahan/Allen will build the rest of the team that can do it for us. (I'm optimistic, but still.)

(In case anyone wonders why I read his columns, it's because he does get the edge on a lot of interesting stories and because of his fame gets a lot of face to face interviews that he does handle pretty well, IMO.)

I would wager theres alot more people , with alot more football knowledge than Peter king that think the exact same thing. Particularly in New York after yesterday.

I agree completely with the opening part of the blog PROVIDED that a single word is changed:

PK has always been a Gints fan sucking up to Mara. Here, he is Just rolling on the RGIII bandwagon.

Yeah, dude... just jump on the 'trey train anytime you need some advice.

Love the concept of multiple SB's in the near future... but King is still a bag...
