"Friday Night Lights", starring Billy Bob Thorton is based on the book by the same name, a true story of a small town in Texas and their beloved football team, the Permian Panthers. It's a bittersweet story. Looking at the little picture, it is a happy story of a storied football team making a run at yet another state championship. But the big picture is sad, as men's lives peak at the age of 17 in the economically depressed town of Odessa, Texas.
I read the book and it was fantastic. The trailer leads me to believe that Hollywood didn't butcher the story too much and the football action looks realistic (these are two things "Remember the Titans" failed miserably at). An interesting note, the powerhouse team Permian meets in the playoffs featured Jesse Armstead at linebacker.
It should be good. Comes out October, 2004:
