On the bright side
Ok, I am as livid as anyone on here with the way our defense has played thus far, but for a thread that can make us feel a little better, here's some interesting things through 3 weeks:
1. RGIII is a legit player. No one can question that.
2. The Redskins have scored more points than any other team in the NFC.
3. At -2 total point differential, the Redskins are 2nd in the NFC East.
4. Philly got crushed by AZ and barely squeaked by the last two games with 1-point wins. Ouch!
5. Dallas still has Tony Romo.
6. Other 1-2 Teams include: (not a full list): Detroit (Stafford); Carolina (Cam Newton); New England (Brady); Pittsburgh (Ben Roethlisberger); Indy (Luck); Denver (Manning)... Not bad company.
7. Cleveland and New Orleans 0-3.
8. Top 10 Rushing O (2nd)
9. Top 10 Rushing D (9th)
10. The building blocks are still in place for long-term success with this team. The secondary needs a makeover, but otherwise we are on the way up. I still believe this!

Re: On the bright side
Let us pick this one up:
Yes, a legit player who will end up in the hospital unable to play again if he is run to the ground on college option plays and "protected" by an incompetent OL.
They have been scored 102 points too, 4th worst in the entire NFL.
Which means, it matters not how good your QB is, without a secondary, we still stand at the bottom of the NFC East.
Ahead of us in any event. I wish I could say we WON games by single points back to back over the last two weeks.
At least he plays with an OL.
It is early. Company will leave us alone as the season progresses.
The value of our only win against NO certainly diminishes when they have that record and they have the 2nd worst situation on defense with 102 points allowed.
Many of those yards achieved by RGIII and getting good licks for them.
Our front seven are our strength. Even the two injuries to our starters could be compensated. How about our pass defense? 1012 Yards!!! 2nd worst in the entire NFL.
But you fail to mention that we have allowed 1288 total yards in ONLY three games, 3rd WORST in the entire NFL.
If we could only have a legit OL and hired a secondary.
We have been exposed. Teams know how to play against our weaknesses. We will be lucky to win ONE out of our next 4 games. Maybe against Minny, maybe not.
Given the investment of Draft picks to get RGIII, it is just downright CRAZY and IRRESPONSIBLE to run him to the ground with those overused and abused option plays. Pass protection needs to improve somehow.
How does one get a secondary and new OL during the regular season?
You actually may get better OL protection than we have getting some players from the Canadian Football League. There are better secondaries in the CFL too. I am serious.

The team has sucked for a long time. What I think a lot of you are feeling is anger because you came into the season expecting to be a lot better than we were actually going to be. Especially after knocking off New Orleans, I heard the local radio shows, it was all about reassessing our win/loss total. Folks were talking 9-7, 10-6 and some said maybe 12-4 which is just crazy.
We're a VERY young team. A team that is being built and something that can't be done overnight. It takes time. We've sucked for a long time, I don't think any of us are going to jump ship just yet anyways.

$350 for seats and parking pass, wake at 5 am to throw the kids in the car and drive from Philly to get to the lots by 9, bake in the sun for 3+ hours, sitting within ear shot of a belligerent cursing drunken moron and geeky Bengle fans, spend an hour getting out of the lots, get home late - watch a pathetic secondary eliminate ANY chance this team had this season.
I agree with Frank that the expectations, mine included, were too high but man, on a personal level, trying to keep my kids from becoming Eagle fans by doing everything I can to instill a love of the B&G I am frustrated.
Overall, everyone had a fun time grilling in the lot, playing football, hanging out but that game was bad. D. Hall just makes me mad. What's the score of these last two games WITHOUT RGIII? Kyle S. is a fool.
I will get over it and will be on the couch next weekend hoping for a win against the Bucs but this was a bad loss. And who here among us does not expect to get news later today that Trent Williams is done for the year? Every time a Redskin falls to the ground he is out for the year. Will we ever see Garcon and his boo-boo foot again? Yuck and yuck.
All the worse is I have a sun burn at the end of September and have meetings all day where I will have to explain why and where I got it to a bunch of Eagle fans.

Drinking the Kool-Aid again...
we're making progress ... we used to be a franchise that really sucked, BIG time ... now we're just bad
things are getting better
a lot of fans here just look at how bad we are and not at the FACT that we actually are getting better
on a slightly different note ... Mike had better take Kyle to the woodshed for a serious wake-up conversation ... we need RGIII for the future

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

We are not getting better and have not been getting better under Shanny. Sure, there have been positives, but there have been matching negatives. I am really tired of the fantastic notion that our front office and coaching is now "professional," as if they are somehow better than past administrations.
They're not a bit better. Even with RG111, an unbelievable talent, we're not better. We're likely to get him killed. Think how bad we'd be if we hadn't gotten him....Wow!

Just tell them you were polishing our three Vince Lombardi trophies and you got your tan from their bright reflection!

I can't speak for anyone else, but what angers me is this team has had steller defenses for years and if they would've had even a mediocre offense to go with it, they could've done some good things. Enter this season...bringing in RGIII also brought the hope that we would finally have an offense to go with the D...well, we have the O now, but the D stinks! Why can't this team have both? Why must this team be an embarrassment no matter how many personnel changes we go through?....beef up one part of the team and another falls apart...I just can't help but think this team is forever cursed because JKC didn't leave this team to his son...allowing the team to be sold to Snyder was like selling the team's soul to the devil, only with no good results....
UK Skins Fan wrote:You know where you can stick your "bright side", don't you?
No offence.
Actually, offense should be intended. If you lack a bright side view why poison someone else's faint glimmer of hope? All this constant negative projecting is a self fulfilling prophecy. We WILL IMPROVE, so try not to monsoon on the parade of we who try to project positives, please.
Everybody funny, now you funny too ...

No, this is not my case.
My predictions were moderate between 7 - 9 and 8 - 8, and no playoffs.
Several of us did highlight the issues at the secondary and the OL during the off- and pre-season. But this is NOT only about the deficit of good players at those two units. Our problem in defense is ALSO based on the type of defense game plan called over the last three weeks.
ANY opposing receiver looks good and the good ones look unstoppable. I do not think that, even with a poor secondary, the right defense game plan is being called for and, on top of that, Hasleet makes NO ADJUSTMENTS in defense? Man, this is getting ridiculous.
BUT if they keep this up, we will have RGIII in the hospital soon and the investemnt in Cousins may have been more than justified. Gosh!!! After that we might even get Grossman back

My concern is that maybe Haslett is calling the defense the players can execute. Given the injuries to the Dline, you can't have your corners playing Man. They'll be on an island. Playing man requires a lot of pressure from the Dline and if you don't get it, you're screwed. I'm pretty sure that's how we were burned quite a bit. When we played Zone, the safeties seemed to be often times in the wrong place.
Something else I noticed yesterday - and it's not an excuse at all - but our whole team seemed to have terrible footing. Wilson got burned because he looked like he was ice skating with tennis shoes. Not to mention the field seemed to be chewed up by whatever had been played there recently and we kept seeing sand being kicked up. That is an embarrassment in my opinion by our staff b/c I really don't think that our guys were wearing the right shoes yesterday.

I know what you're saying, but I don't really see the alternative. Running RGIII and Banks yesterday was really the only thing that kept us in that game. It allowed them to get Alfred Morris going too. What do you want Mike to say to Kyle? Stop trying to win the game? I'm with you though that I still think things are getting better. Anybody taken a look at RGIII's stats so far this year? Compare them to Grossman.
I love football season but really hate Monday after games. Fans are always way too upbeat after wins (see week 1 v. Saints) and way too negative after losses.
btw Saints are 0-3 right now and their defense looks even worse than ours. I wonder if that game will look like much of an accomplishment by the end of the season.

If we play man, we are in trouble.

And Haslett is calling a defense game plan "he feels" they can EXECUTE???
Well, if this is so, it ain't telling how bad this is going to get down to.
And THIS is the problem: no relief on sight.

Was at the game yesterday, and saw our secondary get torched repeatedly by the bigger receivers on the Bengals. Part of the problem was that whatever adjustments they made at half, they kept Dalton pretty clean in the second half of the game.....whereas in the first half we were getting decent pressure on the QB. And, with the depth that our DL was supposed to have, I can't really blame the loss of Carriker and Orakpo either. Heck, once again we held a team to under 100 yards of rushing offense....and some of that total came on a Dalton run. We are stout against the run thusfar, but pathetic against the pass.....even worse than many of us may have speculated on in the pre-season.
As for RGIII, he did indeed keep us in the game yesterday despite getting abused. His uniform was more green than burgundy and gold at the end of the game. And, I am not only speaking to hits he took when running the ball, also hits he took while standing in the pocket trying to find a receiver. Trent Williams replacement, Jordan Black, got beat like a drum....repeatedly. Morris looked good, but we seemed to go away from the run in the first half, and came back to it in the second. So...our Oline is weak on pass blocking apparently, but ok for run blocking.
Finally, I am not as impressed with our WR corps as I was in pre-season. Think it all starts with Garcon. He is supposed to be our stud #1 rcvr, and based on what I saw in pre-season and the first game, deservedly so. He also appeared to be RGIII's favorite target. I have not really seen another WR step into that void and take over a game yet.....and opposing teams either all have great secondaries, or some of our receivers are just not as good as we had hoped/expected.
