Today, I heard on the DC local ABC news affiliate, Fletcher trying to explain the defense giving up so many yards. In his explanation, he said, "maybe we could have mixed up the coverages more."
Sorry, I have not found a link, but this is consistent with what a lot of us were saying during the game and after.

BOM roasted!
I would have been cool with a hailmary for the win.. fact is the Morgan penalty ended our game not the call to try and kick a fg to tie

Next time, may I suggest posting before the

I thought the odds of a first down were way better then a 62 yard field goal. I agree injury wasn't Shannahan's concern, but I thought he didn't want to put that play on Griffin yet.[/quote]
All I read in the offseason was about "THE ARM" and how hard RGIII could throw the ball and all he hoopla about our new QB. Then, when the time to show the new weapon comes, "the coach" goes with a kicker that hasn't made a +50 yd FG since I don't know when to try to make a 62 yarder (NFL record). Thinking of starting a thread with dumber calls than this one....

This is my main takeaway from this game. RGIII has taken some big shots these first two weeks, and that's against the Rams and Saints. We play the Steelers and Ravens, and if he does the types of things he's done so far against teams like that he's not going to last the season.

Needs to learn to slide after the run. A couple of hits for diving instead of sliding. 1/2 a yd is not worth the hit after getting a 1st down.

With Cundif's percentage on 50 yard kicks 1 out of 6 last year. 2 out of 13 since 2003, you are better off with RGIII at 4th and 16. Plus you also have the added chance of a roughing the passer which is a better pct than Cundif making a 50 yrd FG let alone a 62 yarder. He has the leg but for some reason, he can't even get it close.
You also have the chance of the Rams, who were playing dirty and getting lots of hits on RGIII all day, pinning their ears back and injuring Griffin.
Nonsense. The game was on the line. You don't worry about the possibility of injury when the game is on the line. This is football. There is always the possibility of injury.

No way. Shanny would have put it on Griffin in a heartbeat, but he'd noticed the kicker's length on kickoffs and got a genius idea. Trouble was/is, even if we had made the kick we would have probably lost in overtime, since we obvious weren't going to stop the Rams. The best chance we had was to keep driving for a touchdown.

Over a minute to play. It was a horrible decision. We make it. Rams have the ball with a minute. They drive and score a FG and win. OR we make it. Go into OT and likely lose. The marginal returns of a made 62-yd FG do not compare to completing a 4th & 16 with a minute to go in the Rams side of the field. Bad decision, but whatever.

Hmm...so you disagree with me but agree with me...

Sounds like the Red Zone Blues may be just about over...Red_One43 wrote:Here's an interesting stat I heard on the Sports Reporters on ESPN 980 DC local.
Redskins have been inside the 10 yard line 5 times and scored 5 TDs.
