SouthLondonRedskin wrote:I've had my favourite Redskin cut (Hightower)

Seriously? Hightower? He was with the team for all of three or four games. :hmm:

I liked him before we signed him, goes back a way...

I say favourite, he's actually my favourite on offense - Kerrigan, Fletcher, Orakpo, Riley, Jenkins are all uop there, I'm more of a defence guy....

So, did you become a fan when we signed him?

FVck off!

The first game of football I saw was in 1982 and I've loved the Redskins ever since.....

Can I not like players from other teams and be happy when they sign for us...?!?!??!

Whoa there, SLR, this isn't smack. I was just curious, not bustin' on you.

Not bustin' on me...??!?!?

You basically asked if I liked the Redskins because we signed Hightower, thereby inferring I've been a fan for a whole year......

I'm sorry if I offended you. Every year we pick up fans of our latest aquisitions (both players and coaches). I seriously meant nothing by the question.

Don't apologize to this dude, he's prob just getting back from the pub and being mouthy. He needs to go to bed.

Who invited you into the conversation anyway...?!?!? You would know all about being mouthy, wouldn't you...?!? What are you trying to say, that I've been out on the razz all night and just back in from the pub, is that it...!?!?!?

Well, if I wasn't so rat-arsed from being in the pub all night I'd take you into smack.... but I'm lagging so I'm off to bed!!!!!

As of 6:50

Looking at the breakdown now, the Redskins have three QBS, four RB/FBs, 8 WRs, 9 OL, 4 TE, 6 DL, 9 LBs, 9 DBs and 3 specialists. They can cut another tight end and defensive linemen and need to make only one more move — if they don’t add another player.

RB Tim Hightower

WR Terrence Austin

RB Tristan Davis

QB Jonathan Crompton

C Erik Cook

CB Brandyn Thompson

CB David Jones

OT Tom Compton

OT Willie Smith

CB Travon Bellamy

OL Grant Garner

LB Bryan Kehl

LB Brian McNally

DE Doug Worthington

DL Delvin Johnson

DL Marlon Favorite

LB Donnell Holt

DL Darrion Scott

FB Dorson Boyce (note: this is not official, but I was told it would be eventually as he has an injury and a settlement is being discussed. He’s a potential practice squader).

S Tanard Jackson (suspended)

Not final yet, but close.

I posted this on this thread earlier. It should help.

It was posted before the Jackson suspension, so it is a little dated.

Practice Squad guy. Shanahan's famous quote is that it's a 61 man roster.

PS players can't help you on game day when one or two of your OTs go down.

That's why you have players who can play multiple positions to get through a game on an emergency basis. Mo Hurt played some Tackle last year. Then call up a guy for the following week(s).

Rich Campbell‏@Rich_Campbell

So Armstrong tweets that he's no longer a Redskin and wishes Dez Briscoe luck. But don't expect Redskins to announce final roster for hours.

John Keim‏@john_keim

With Armstrong out, the #Redskins are at 53, including Dez Briscoe. he says he hasn't been officially told. but calls are 4 those who r cut.

Remember the Titans - game when Heyor played guard and Shanny shook his hand? BTW the Jets cut him Monday.

If my calculations are correct (should wear pocket protector while saying that): #Redskins roster should be at 53 with Briscoe and White in.

The #Redskins are still trying to trade WR Anthony Armstrong

The trade possibilites aren't over yet!

Grant Paulsen‏@granthpaulsen

Remember, #Redskins won't finalize cuts until 9pm. Trades still possible. Players can be prepared for release than dealt (Ex: Kevin Barnes).

I would give the Steelers a ring to see if they'd be interested in Anthony Armstrong.

53 as of right now!

Specialists

In (3): P Sav Rocca, LS Nick Sundberg, PK Billy Cundiff

This was set earlier this week when Neil Rackers and Graham Gano were released and Cundiff was signed.

Defense

Defensive backs

Cornerback (4): DeAngelo Hall, Josh Wilson, Cedric Griffin, Richard Crawford

Safety (5): Brandon Meriweather, Madieu Williams, DeJon Gomes, Reed Doughty, Jordan Bernstine

The suspension of Tanard Jackson, who would have been one of the top three safeties, helped Bernstine land a spot. It is still somewhat odd that they are keeping four corners and five safeties and this is one of those areas where further moves could be made.

Linebackers

Outside (5): Brian Orakpo, Ryan Kerrigan, Rob Jackson, Chris Wilson, Markus White

Inside (4): London Fletcher, Perry Riley, Lorenzo Alexander, Keenan Robinson

It was thought to be a battle between Wilson and White for the last roster spot but it turns out that both of them made it and Bryan Kehl was shown the door.

Defensive line

In (6): Stephen Bowen, Jarvis Jenkins, Adam Carriker, Kedric Golston, Barry Cofield, Chris Baker

Offense

Running backs (4): Roy Helu Jr., Evan Royster, Darrell Young, Alfred Morris

The shocker of the day was the release of Tim Hightower. It was thought that the team would wait out until his knee, injured last October, got close to 100 percent.

Tight ends (3): Fred Davis, Niles Paul, Logan Paulsen

No drama here after Chris Cooley was released on Tuesday.

Wide receivers (7): Pierre Garçon, Leonard Hankerson, Josh Morgan, Santana Moss, Aldrick Robinson, Brandon Banks, Dez Briscoe

Banks will be more of a kick returner than a wide receiver so there are really six here. Briscoe beat out Anthony Armstrong for the last spot. Most thought Briscoe was the superior receiver during training camp and the preseason but there was a chance that Armstrong’s special teams play could keep him on the roster.

Quarterbacks

In (3): Robert Griffin III, Rex Grossman, Kirk Cousins

Rex Grossman was never, ever in any danger of being cut.

Offensive line

In (9): Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Tyler Polumbus, Josh LeRibeus, Jordan Black, Adam Gettis, Maurice Hurt

While none of the individual names here is a surprise the overall number is. The Redskins have kept eight offensive linemen the last two years. But they did get burned to an extent last year when a rash of injuries hit the line.

 I hear you. But, look at it like this. Maybe the coaches really like what they saw out of Compton and are more confident that they can get him on their PS rather than releasing a more talented player at another position.

Ryan Harris OT from the Broncos was officially released today. He would be a great addition as well. He was a 3rd round pick of Mike Shanahan in 2007. 6'5 300 LB Right Tackle that is athletic and only allowed 1.5 sacks of Jay Cutler in 2008.

He could wind up starting for us if we get him.
