Rexy

Post by Mississippi Hog »

Just saw where Cousins is starting the last Pre-season games. If he does well, I am predicting that Rex is cut in these final cuts. Either he or Crompton take a hike.

^Crompton was cut today

Also on Monday, the Redskins waived running backs Antwon Bailey and Lennon Creer, offensive lineman Chris Campbell, wide receivers Samuel Kirkland and Lance Lewis, quarterback Jonathan Crompton, linebacker Monte Lewis, guard Nick Martinez, tight end Beau Reliford and cornerback Morgan Trent. Lewis is negotiating an injury settlement, while Trent already worked out a settlement.

Crompton was already cut. I cannot imagine Shanny cutting Rex. There is no way he goes into the season with only two rookies. I would be shocked. I am also comfortable with Rex off the bench.

Ahh. Didn't see that about Crompton. You think Rex might be the back up for the game, but they would give Cousins the starts if RG3 goes down?

If Robert goes down Rex starts. Now if he goes out for the year or something awful we would probably see Cousins once the playoffs were out of reach.

As much as I hate typing this, there's no way Grossman (a "viable" backup who knows the system) will be cut. Kind of shocked to see Crompton get cut. Is it possible for Cousins to be relegated to the practice squad?

It may be possible, but there is no way he would make it off waivers. Some other team would surely pick him up.

Would be a REALLY bad move cutting Rex -- boarderline INSANE. He will be very important as a mentor to our two rookie QBs. He is like having a second QB coach out there based on his knowledge of the offense alone. If he embraces the "mentor" role, he will be worth every penny of his paycheck.

It would be crazy for MS to only keep two ROOKIE QBs with no veteran. MS is not that dumb.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

Not sure why Crompton being cut is surprising. We have two younger, better QBs. I think the skins are doing him a favor by cutting him. Let him go and see if he can catch on with another team.

Cousins WILL NOT be relegated to the practice squad because players on the practice squad are basically FAs and another team can pick him up. If they delegated him the practice squad another team would sign him in less than an hour from being cut for nothing. In essence, the skins would have just wasted a 3rd round pick.

Cousins was a 4th rounder, wasn't he?

considering the beating the FO took for taking Cousins, I'll be very surprised if Cousins 'value' will be recognized when the time comes

the media and some fans here just do not have a clue :D
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Rex will not be cut. You don't go into the year with 2 QBs who have never thrown a pass in an NFL regular season game.

I may change my mind when we the final roster comes out, but right now I don't see any potential cuts where I would say, "We should let Rex go to make room for this guy."

Hopefully he'll be a good mentor and provide some insurance for the team.

Yes. 4th not 3rd, but you get the idea.

They just resigned Crompton (I'm assuming it's to fill Cooley's spot for now) but I think they're just going to turn around and release him on Friday.

Yeah, I think they want him to play the second half so Cousins and Sexy Rexy do not get hurt. He can use this as a audition to hold the clipboard for another team.
