maybe it's a play to re-sign him for say, 2 mil vs 6?
they can't restructure an active contract for less actual money, just different payment schedule.
They can and do restructure active contracts (it's the NFL version of a pay cut... In

ey's case he was due $3.8M in base this year, his cap hit was $6.233M this year but again his was to $3.8M. By cutting him they save the $3.8M and will carry $2.433M in "dead money" this year (pro-rated accounting of $$$

ey has already been paid) there is another "dead money" hit next year.
The same numbers would be accurate if they had restructured less

ey's new base pay and any bonus pro-ration....
Had they restructured is contract to the vet min. for they would have paid him $825K in base for 2012, $855K in the final year and a signing bonus of $1.5M... the dead cap would be the same but

ey's cap hit for 2012 would have dropped from $6.233M to $3.758 for 2012 or almost cut in half.

The opposite may be more accurate...

ey wants to start, but that's Fred"s job. He made the first cut but was still cut the next day says the team is saying go find a starting job this week, or come on back and talk to us.

I don't really think you are...
The facts are...

ey and the Redskins are a business but

ey and the Redskins fan base are a love affair.... he has always said he wants to be with the Redskins, He seeking a starting job with a new team weather he is healthy or not he's coming of two injury shorten seasons. Roster's have to be down to 53 in three days and the biggest problem in the whole deal....

ey has no one working for him... he doesn't have a agent and by the time he gets one registered with the league teams will have their final rosters in place, so

ey has to make all these moves on his own.... moves a agent would have been checking into from the start of training camp (Cooley had been focused on making the Redskins, not looking for a landing spot), I think he'll look around and see whats out there and then come back to "his 1st love" as a backup at multiple positions.
I can actually see

ey visiting another team's facilities and getting sick, due to the lack of B&G

ey!

Gibbs was stuck on two players from "the U" and wasn't sure which one he would select.... Gibbs went the right guy, but I have always believed that Gibbs had spotted a TE later in the draft. He traded up to get Chris. In my mind Chris

ey helped Gibbs decide not to spend a first round pick on the son of a guy he coached and gave us one of the best safeties to play the game....
Hail
