It was time. Thanks Chris. You were one of the best TE's in the game for a good stretch.

He sounded down and defeated all training camp. A sad way to go.

Thanks so much for everything, Cooley! Best of luck wherever you land next.

This was a totally classless way of handling this.

If he truly wasn't in your plans, you should have cut him June 1 and moved on!

It isn't like he got beat out. Davis may and I repeat may end up being as good as Cooley, but he is one failed drug test away from being gone for a year.

Niles Paul is totally unproved and will most likely never live up to what Cooley did. And Paulson is just a guy.

This move hurts the team!!!!!!!!!!!!

This move was done in a classless fashion!!!!

This move will come back to haunt us!

Thanks....I don't have a twitter account. Wow, first Gano, now Cooley. Although his current ability as a TE may be argued, no one can argue his contributions as a Redskin for the past 8 seasons. While he was never my favorite player, I certainly cheered for him, and wish him the best in the future.

Can we have a redo on the 80 for 80 voting and get Cooley in there?

Why didn't we get something from someone tho? We will get a late pick for Barnes if he makes the team then we just give Cooley away? Sob

I hope he goes to Denver and catches about 100 balls for Peyton.

The other Manning and the Giants are in desperate need of a TE... that would suck!

TTiT has a TE with a FUBAR spleen! :puke: If he is healthy, a two TE set of Witten and Cooley would be frightning!

He is better than any TE the Egirls have!

Maybe we'll see him week one with NO. Two TE sets of Cooley and Grahmn...

Or week two, he would instantly be the Rams best reciever.

Tampa needs a TE.

WOAH! I didn't want to believe it, but here it is.

Why exactly is this a "classless" move though? I don't get that. He's been injured for three years. You may or may not agree with letting Cooley go, but the team released him before final cuts so he has a chance to catch on with another team if he wants.

Man, I'm genuinely hurt for that dude. I'm very saddened.

What I get from the situation is this... Cooley wants to be the starter and they're allowing him that chance out of respect.

Mike wrote:“There’s a lot of scenarios that could still occur,” Shanahan said. “... Chris wants to be a starter in the National Football League.”

If Chris decides he wants to come back, it looks as if the door is open. That'd be hard to do from a pride aspect.

You can take the pukes fecals and gnats off the list, maybe even the whole NFC. He said he has some thinking to do on his next step and doesn't want to even think about putting on another jersey. I'd bet anything those three would make him sick.

I hope he hangs it up and comes to work for the Redskins full time. Maybe they retire Sonny and Sam on the radio next year and roll out Chris and Clinton!!

Actually two years ago only two TEs in the NFLhad better seasons, but you are right he was injured even if he did play all 16 games.

Why is this classles, well mostly because it is!!!

There wasn't a competion for TE in training camp. So they had already made up their minds that Cooley was only making the team if Nile Paul completely botched his try out and he tried to do just that!

If you know a well respected player is not in your plans you either allow him to seek a trade or you cut him as soon as you can. This move should have been made before FA since they could have still moved his cap hit to next year as a "early post June 1 cut". Or they could have done it in June.

Waiting this long when you had no intentions of keeping him was just totally low rent!
