Re: Rackers cut
Me too. I'd say it probably can't be a very big mistake as I don't think us making noise in the playoffs this year will come down to a few FGs.chiefhog44 wrote:http://espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp12/story/_/id/8306269/source-neil-rackers-washington-redskins-cut-graham-gano-pk
I hope this is not a mistake.

A good kicker is much more valuable than I think people are making it out to be. They typically (regardless of red zone %s) dictate the outcome of a couple games a year.
Personally, I am happy that they havne't given up on Gano -- mainly because I don't want to see an Akers situation again, but we NEED a solid kicker. I just hope that we see solid improvement from Gano this year.

RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.
I agree but those couple of games are way more important to a team projected for 10-6 than a team projected for 6-10.markshark84 wrote:A good kicker is much more valuable than I think people are making it out to be. I was also pulling for Gano and hope for continued development. When taking blocks into account FOR ALL KICKERS Gano was right in the middle of the pack for FG% and one 50+ doink from top 10.
I would think Danny Smith is on notice. We had the worst kick protection this league has seen in about a decade.
PS - I recently heard that no quarterback drafted #1 or #2 has ever lead his team to a .500 record or better. Vegas has our under/over at 6.5 wins.

I don't think that will be Record #1. How about most passing yards in a game , most td in a game or most rushing yards in a game by a rooke QBDeadskins wrote:Record #1 RGIII will break.DarthMonk wrote:I recently heard that no quarterback drafted #1 or #2 has ever lead his team to a .500 record or better.

If he gets the touchdown record and breaks the .500 record for a rookie I will be very happyMississippiskinsfan2 wrote:I don't think that will be Record #1. As long as his completion % is high and he's moving the chains then I wouldn't be too worried about the yard records especially the rushing because that prolly means he's running for his life and the oline is getting schooled

Ok guys, I think things have gotten a bit out of control and just delusional. This type of talk makes me cringe and just shake my head.Mississippiskinsfan2 wrote:I don't think that will be Record #1. At first I hear that not only will RGIII win more than 8 games -- which will ultimately be dictated more by our OL than RGIII, but I also hear that BEFORE he does this, he will BREAK the following Skins and/or NFL records THIS YEAR!!!!
- Most passing yards in a game by a skin: 446 (Baugh)
- Most passing yards in a game NFL: 554
- Most TD in a game by a skin: 6 (Baugh & Rypien)
- Most TD in a game NFL: 7
- Most rushing yards in season by rookie: 706 (Cam)
- Most rushing yards by QB game: I know Tebow had 227, but not sure record.
Do you guys really believe this? Are you for real? If so, you desperately need a reality check.
Does anyone remember the old 1980s SNL skit where the CHI "super fans" went on jeopardy????? To remind you: in the skit they were asked random CHI sports questions and the answers always ended something like "Da Bears 438, opponents 2". It culminated with the final jeopardy question of "who would win in a golf game: Ditka or God" -- and the correct answer was "Ditka, but it would be close....".
-- Just to be clear, this is what this thread is beginning to sound like.
Darthmonk -- I agree with you here, but how many games do you remember in the past 10 years we have lost due to poor kicking? I remember a good deal of games. In one of our 8-8 seasons, we lost at least 2 games via missed field goals within 45 yards. I personally feel that given the fact we most likely won't make the playoffs this year (although we could optimistically start out 4-2 since our schedule is much more difficult after week 7), going with Gano another year is a good idea. That said, if he doesn't improve this year, we need to consider alternatives.

You definitely make some good points, but on the other hand, right now is basically the only time anywhere close the season where NFL fans can realistically get away with unbridled enthusiasm and optimism. Sure, reality may come crashing down in a couple weeks, but why not believe that the sky's the limit for our team right now, when all teams are 0-0? I'm all for being a realist, don't get me wrong, but isn't there a time and place for optimism?markshark84 wrote:Ok guys, I think things have gotten a bit out of control and just delusional. Was thinking about this, and then realized that QBs drafted 1 or 2 overall are drafted by teams with the worst record in the NFL. They draft a QB to build around. Archie Manning, for instance. (and I haven't looked up the Saints, but they were terrible before and after they got Archie).DarthMonk wrote:markshark84 wrote:

That was how the Redskins got Heath Shuler.
I'd guess that a few overall top picks went to good teams that had traded for a future pick with a team that tanked...(Skins got Desmond Howard)...and the good teams didn't need a QB.
The Redskins might be unusual, or first of a trend?
I remember waaaaaaaaaaaay too many games like that.markshark84 wrote: Darthmonk -- I agree with you here, but how many games do you remember in the past 10 years we have lost due to poor kicking? Anyone else kinda feel like...
Gano > Rackers > cundiff?
What did we do? Lose the better % guy for the better leg, then cut him for... The better... Um chip shot? Nerves? NO. See the AFC championship = fail.

This was simple really ...
Rackers was brought in to hopefully make Gano realize he needed to clearly show that he would be better than he had been
in other words - Gano was on notice
Gano did not clearly show that he was better but the coaches obviously did not think that Rackers had clearly won the job either
The Ravens cut Cundiff and the coaches think that Cundiff is a better kicker
there is not much difference in all 3 - Gano should have done better these past few months
Cundiff will be better than Gano - he already is

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
