I'd like to take a moment to start with the "how many at each position" way of looking at things overall.
If we think of a standard 5 OL, 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE set and put a backup everywhere we have 22 on offense.
If we think the same way on defense we end up with -
OFFENSE (22)
OL 10
QB 2
WR 4
RB 4
TE 2
DEFENSE (22)
DL 6
LB 8
DB 8
Now add 2 kickers and a snapper and you have 47.
Now the adjustments. We are ultimately allowed to keep 6 more guys.
We add a QB for 3. 48 now.
We add 2 WR for 6. 50 now.
We add 1 TE for 3. 51 now.
We add Banks as a returner - R. 52 now.
We add

ey as a FLEX.
53.
A few more comments.
I'd be willing take 10 OL down to 9 to bolster another grouping - WR. I do not want to go forward with 7 OL. Bad idea. If an injury (or three?) happens I'd rather plug a guy in than shift a lot of people around if I had my druthers. Meanwhile, I keep all 3 TEs (Davis, Paul, Paulsen) plus

ey. Paulsen can even swing to tackle in a pinch and we know

ey can play FB.
We have 8 WR if you count Banks. It's just a label. I have 7 WRs and a R.
I want 6 DL and 8 LB. That's 14 guys. I want the starting 3 DL, Baker, Fletch, Lorenzo, Kerrigan, Orakpo, and the next best 6 PASS RUSHERS. Stop 'em on first down and rotate pass rushers like the big dog. I could lose one of the 14 from this grouping for a FB.
In a nutshell:
OFFENSE (27)
OL 9 Williams, Hurt, Monty, Chester, Polumbus, LeRibeus, Cook, Gettis, Smith
QB 3 RGIII, Rex, the Captain
WR 7 Garcon, Moss, Morgan, Robinson, Dez, Hank, Austin
RB 5 Morris, Hightower, Royster, Helu, Young
TE 3 Davis, Paul, Paulsen
DEFENSE (21)
DL and LB 13 = current front 7 plus Baker and 6 best remaining pass rushers. Markus White!
DB 8 Wilson, Hall, Merriweather, Williams, Doughty, Gomes, Crawford, ?
ST (4)
P Rocca
K Gano
S Sundberg
R Banks
FLEX 1
F

ey
I could give up Austin for a decent pass pusher.
