Also, I am not concerned about them not being 1st rounders. We picked the guys that best fit our system. They still need time to grow - no one debates that, coaches, players or fans.
What the FO did not do was pick up veteran o-linemen that are can be starters. I think it was mostly because of concerns in the secondary coupled with limited options in FA. Oh, and that whole cap-gate thing didn't help either.
It'll be a year or two, but everything is moving in the right direction. Losing Sean Taylor was the single biggest hit to this franchise since Dan Snyder bought the team. In so many ways, it takes years to make up the ground, as his absence leaves a rippling effect on all personnel decisions.
I am not concerned about this game. Bottom line, Orakpo and Merriweather's injuries do not appear serious after negative MRI results. That is the most important news for now.

Well, it's not as if they simply forgot to buy some milk from the store. They were financially unable to pick up a quality starter solely because of cap-gate. I saw that you mentioned it but you kinda tacked it on as an after-thought.
sounds to me like the O line is not going to be recognized as a powerful part of our offense this season =
we are going to be better - greatness comes later

Well, yeah... LOL But it'll be better once Kory and Chester are back in the mix. Also remember that Trent was hobbled a bit. #shrug It's preseason and we're giving rookies some experience.
While I do not worry about pre season games from a won/loss perspective....I do expect to see some consistency from defense and offense, and improvement from the starters. That is what bothered me most about game in Chicago, our first team O and D did not appear to match up well against Da Bears. Specifically, our secondary was lit up.....whether due to coverage issues or the fact that we really did not apply significant pressure to a good QB.
The true starting offensive line is missing out on developing cohesion during pre-season due to various injuries. You may have two (or three) starters returning for the first regular season game against a good team like the Saints. At this point, not a lot more that can be done, but guess it is a good thing that RGIII can run....
A winning effort begins with preparation.
Failures are expected by losers, ignored by winners.
Give the guy a roster spot. I love tenacity and ball-hawking - swat ball, cause FUMBLE....!!!

And he's the best tackler on the team, and always hustles his butt off.

I really think we'll look a lot better in the reg. season than we looked last week. Getting our starters back, while they may take a game or two to gel, will only help us from a talent level. Also on the defensive side, I think we'll get away from the Vanilla defensive sets we ran and get into our tricky - wheres the pressure going to come from - defense Hasslet likes to run. We tried a little bit of that this week but it didn't work and I don't expect to see it again. Example - the play that Rak got hurt on. The reason he was in coverage was because we sent a corner blitzing from the outside and Cutler recognized it and got the ball out quick. That's going to happen. You're not going to stop everyone and keep in mind that after how Chicago looked this weekend, I fully expect them to contend for the division. They look good in all three phases of the game. I'm just praying that they didn't look so good b/c we're so bad but in my gut, I think we'll be a lot better than we showed this weekend because we'll open the offense and defense up. Special teams will be fine.
I watched the replay on NFL Network yesterday, and I didn't think RGIII had as bad a game as some made it out to be. He slipped while trying to get out of the pocket on the sack/fumble. And the ball that sailed over Santana looked to be a miscommunication, not a bad throw. He simply thought Moss would be in another location. He should have thrown the ball away twice, rather than going OOB, and he threw behind Paul (but that ball still should have been caught). He had several nice passes, though, and made a big play with his legs. I'm still impressed by him, and don't see any reason to believe he's not going to do great things this season.

I couldn't agree more deadskins...
Imagine if sexy *rexy was back there vs the bears starting D! Sorry for that thought but he probably would've been killed and his only completions would have been to players in blue and orange..

OK, did you really need to put that image in our heads. Now, I am going to have nightmares tonight. Thanks for apologizing in advance.
I understand the concern but I don't think that some here really understand that this is the pre-season and the words pre-season game are misleading
these are not games that the result means ANYTHING
these are opportunities for the coaches and for some players
be a little critical if you want to vent but really ......
DO NOT try and convince me that most of the players were trying to win the game more than they were trying to win a roster spot
29 players (roster = 53 + PS = 8 ) are not here in 2 weeks
give me a break
some here are carrying on like this is a 10 to 12 win franchise this season - get a grip

I agree - I think that some expect to see more and are unduly concerned
I'm expecting to see improvement but I'm glad we're continuing to look at a lot of players that might not be here soon

That was my impression, too. While it wasn't a great night for Redskins offense, the main thing to keep in mind is how much worse it would have been with another quarterback under center. RGIII did not look like a rookie to me.
I'd agree also - I know that he's a rookie but I expect him to be a HUGE addition to our offense early
and
getting better as the season goes on
I'm not expecting great things from the O line but I do not expect it to be a disaster either
the O line will be fine and will have good depth

Ahem. . . 2nd best

I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

+1 - that's a big deal with this fan
defensive guys that can make tackles are a big plus

The problem still is- there isn't a position he is built physically for.. he can just be a st guy, and facts are facts, he's a crappy safety and that isn't going to change.

I"m not sure who is going to make the roster but if you have a guy that is one of the best tacklers on the team playing a position that it is important to be a good tackler, then you keep him
We had a safety once with a body that did not fit the position and he's still one of the best safeties we ever had - including you know who

I hear that.. but another fact is Tanard Jackson is a much better safety- for that matter Gomes and every other safety on the roster are better @ the position too.
I'd rather save the roster spot for the other little guy... Brandon
