When do we get the notion that we need to make changes?

I know there are folks who think we need to change and bring other people in but OTHER than personnel changes from the outside - are there people you would use that aren't getting used or things you would like to see from a game plan point of view that aren't getting done?

Well i voted no based on his performance but I have to admit that the need for continuity nearly made me choose otherwise.

I'd like to see Edwards show improvement over the course of the rest of the season and give us reason to believe that with another season, he could do a better job.

He hasn't given us a lot of reasons to believe that he will though.

Did people bother to read all posts related to Bowen? No One was putting the entire blame on him. Some people SIMPLY stated that he doesnt deserve any praise. New day and new subject. Move on Hogbreath.

man this totally pisses me off. sure make it six dc's in six years....., no wonder the d looks a little lost on every down. i personnally think edwards is doing a crappy job and needs to go, but at the same time this is his first year as dc, so i want to wait a while before i call for his head. i just wish he'd get a little more aggressive..... note to george... THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MAN COVERAGE, PLEASE BLITZ THE OPPOSING QB....especially when you have bailey and smoot at corner. damn man get a clue, help us all out. but i didn't vote yes or no, it would depend on who was available, and most of all how the defense ends the season, still seven games to go, and they could prove a lot in that time....

I agree 666, yet I disagree.

Short reason - no adjustments of much import at this time. No changing schemes to maximize talent, no benching weak links - or when they bench them, if they whine, they put them back in.

What makes me the maddest is the man won't learn not to go to a zone when he isn't sure what else to go to. His comfort spot, his security blanket is that damn zone and he probably won't change that anytime soon.

Hogbreath - um - no. Read my posts defending Bowen and you can see I support the man. Read my state of the defense report and see why I ask this question. Better yet, see the defensive rankings fall from 5th to 26th with not MUCH change in core talent.

Boss - I was almost swayed as well for continuity, but my problem is continuing the same thing we have this year won't make it prettier next year unless we get another major force at DT.

rich, who's actually gonna be available? not like top notch dc's grow on trees, ya know. i'd rather have edwards stick around and see how he takes the learning curve after his first year, than to have someone else who's also unproven at the helm.. i still gotta go with "don't know" for now, i have too many mixed emotions on this one.

I understand what you are saying 666 - I just have a problem with a DC that doesn't adjust and runs a defense like Ron Lynn/Mike Nolan... euw.

Hey, if we are going to dig up old DCs, lets bring back Pettibone. Hell, he was the best one the Skins have ever had.

As far as GE is concerned, let's wait til the season ends and then evaluate. Things aren't going well now, but if he can turn things around then we may have a good DC for the forseeable future. If not, we shop.

Edwards hasn't done anything special here. Although some of the defensive players may like him, he's not getting enough out of them. If there is a solid D-coordinator out there available, I say go after him.

I voted yes despite his performance. I think what this team most, over and beyond even wins, is stability. By stability, I don't mean the same defensive "system" and the same offensive coaches for consecutive years. The stability should go all the way upto a sane front office with an experienced GM. We've really got nothing much to lose. We've been the proverbial cat-on-the-wall mediocre for some time now and I attribute instability as a MAJOR cause. The sort of roster turnovers we have had in this "year of stability", particularly in DL/TE/RB is ridiculous despite injuries. It only smacks of the way the organization is being run.

You may find no argument in the paragraph above supporting Edwards as a defensive coordinator. But the bottomline, for me, is that there are more important fundamental issues that we have to deal with as an organization if new coaches and new players are going to ever learn to succeed as a team. So I say George Edwards continues as a DC for the next couple years by default, just 'cause he happens to be DC now.
