Who is Dorson Boyce?

Post by Red_One43 »

Redskins sign FB Dorson Boyce.

Who is Dorson Boyce you might ask?

Apparently, he is a FB that the Seahawks had a hard time parting with:
This transaction preserves the strange journey that Dorson Broyce is on, courtesy of the Seahawks. Boyce was a virtual unknown even on his college team but apparently caught the eye of Seahawks scouts while they were watching Jake Locker work out this spring. I guess. (Boyce caught passes from Locker at his Pro Day)

Preseason footage from last year's preseason as a fullback with Seattle. He looks good catching ball. Had some great blocks.

Bottomline: He looks like a guy with potential to get even better with some Shanny coaching.
Editing note: hopefully my edit should clear things up. :)

could make a good PS guy and if Young gets hurt, we've got a good backup.

Wow! Is Dorson Boyce such an unknown that he doesn't even qualify for the Hogwash thread?

Boyce joins Darrel Young as the only other fullback currently on the roster.

Boyce (6-1, 237) was originally signed out of Washington as a college free agent by the Seattle Seahawks on July 26, 2011.

He was released on Aug. 16, 2011, before being re-signed two days later. He was released on Sept. 3, 2011, prior to the start of the regular season.

Boyce played in four preseason games for the Seahawks, totaling two rushes for 11 yards (5.5 avg) and four catches for 28 yards (7.0 avg).

Boyce played collegiately at Washington from 2009-10, appearing in nine games with the Huskies. He spent the 2006-08 seasons at Allan Hancock College (Calif.).

He was released because the Seahawks decided to carry one fullback. They also had a couple of running backs that could play both fullback and Tailback. He definitely has the talent to make an NFL roster, but versatility and teams keeping one fullback are problems for him.

I agree with you. He looks like a good PS candidate.

Last year's bleacher report for the Seahawks thought so too, but Seattle resigned him to the active roster, but later cut him.
He showed solid hands as a receiver out of the backfield, converting first downs when called upon—he was solid as a blocker and had two carries for 11 yards versus Oakland.

Sorry, I moved this because I didn't realize the Skins had signed him. Putting it back in Hogwash . . .

Partly my fault, Irn, because I didn't say that the Skins had signed him in my first version. Of course that was the point of my title of the thread. Nobody knows who this guy is. Not even John Keim knew him and he is usually "in the know" about NFL football players.

Turns out the guy has some talent, but not being of tailback quality is going to kill his chances of making the team unless we have an injury.

To me, this guy shows how thin the line can be between making it in the NFL and not making it. I fully expect to hear praise coming out of the coaches mouths concerning this guy. He clearly has a strong work ethic to have come out of nowhere -wasn't even a starter in college.
