He put out a bunch of tweets to other Redskin players this evening asking "Why do you sacrifice", "Why do you grind". I like it. Already helping establish a rally point and players culture. Forcing them to think about why they play this game beyond a paycheck. Let's hope a lot of the answers are to win Superbowls!
Think he's doing that to ALL his teammates. Hmmmm, it might be a demonstration of leadership, but if I'm London Fletcher, I might be wondering why this guy is asking me stuff like this. Just seems a little impertinent to me. All very well to ask the question of fellow rookies, but seasoned veteran leaders? If somebody told me to "know my why", I think I'd smash them in the face with a garden fork.
But I'm not London Fletcher. Which is a result for all of us, because I can't tackle a bag of peas.

Lol.
I don't think he'd send something like that to London. I think he'll leave the D to be the D. Nobody there will listen to him just now.
He's bonding with the guys he needs more than anyone else to help him through his first year. The receivers first, then the OL and then the RBs. He's telling them he can be a leader and to believe in him.
If the guys take it in the right spirit and run with it then it's real good. You'll get the receivers diving full pelt to make catches, the backs running through walls and the OL protecting for all their worth, all because they believe he can take them to the promised land and they can get a ring.
Or he can be seen to be an upstart and we'll turn into the freakin' Jets!
But I think he knows what he's doing. He's just spent a few days with most of the receivers in Waco, he's getting tight with them first of all, they'll know him better than the rest of the team by now I'd say....

Far as I can tell he's sending it to receivers (TE or WR) and probably running backs in the future, maybe a few lineman. My guess is first, he leaves the defense be at this point in time (until either he's shown more of a leadership quality in actual games and/or this thing actually seems to be working for the young offensive guys he has don it with) and that second, he'll never send this to London Fletcher.
-Santana Moss on Our QBI know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

Robert Griffin III @RGIII
#KnowYourWhy @LFletcher59 why do you play the game? Why do you sacrifice?
He did send it to London, which was what prompted my comment in the first place. Just seems out of place to me. I love the guy, but I'd personally think he was a cocky upstart if I was a veteran of the standing of #59.
Maybe it just doesn't translate well from one side of the Atlantic to the other!

Yeah no offense but I think that is a total misreading of his tweet.UK Skins Fan wrote:Robert Griffin III @RGIII

A young guy asking a respected veteran for his thoughts on why he puts so much into the game? What could be more respectful than to ask for insight and advice from an experienced player like Fletcher?
A cocky upstart is the guy who thinks he knows all the answers already and DOESN'T want to listen to the vets.

You might be right riggo. My query was based on my initial interpretation of the tweet, which was that RGIII is seeking to remind his teammates about why they play, rather than seeking insight from them.
Could be "my bad", because I might be a lot more cynical than the average NFL player. But if I misinterpreted the meaning, I doubt that I'd be the only one.

You might be right. Honestly, I have trouble reading tweets at all, much less interpreting their actual meaning!

Haha! We're probably wasting our time trying to assign any great meaning to 140 characters of soundbite anyway. It might be best to assume that RGIII's teammates know him already, and will know his exact meaning.
This sort of over-anaylsis is exactly why I don't spend much time here during the offseason!

I was gonna shout you up actually, we've got you boys in a pre-season friendly at your gaff on Aug 4th and a few of us are going, but the wife is going on a hen night that day so now I'm f***ed!
I'm gutted, really wanted to see the new stadium, could've met up for a pint as well if you're going.
You'll just have to get promoted now!

While I agree he didn't necessarily need to send that out to vets like Fletcher, I don't have a problem with it at all. And knowing the consummate professional and leader Fletch is.... I would be surprised if he were upset with it. I'm sure he's pumped that he has someone with mad skill that WANTS to be great and wants to win. You think Jamarcus "Purple Drank" Russell was asking people why they grind and displaying a hunger to WIN? Yea, you don't want him to come across as a cocky know it all, but I think it's safe to say that RG3 is not a me first or cocky guy at all. To me he comes across as hard working, humble, but also confident. So far I've be very impressed... Now here's hoping he can play ball!

Well, I am not a twitter pro...and I do not watch Fallon (on too late at night) but I agree with your take, Spenser. Heck, Russell was probably to busy mixing the cough syrup martini's to bother to tweet anything. I would think that Fletcher would actually be EXCITED to see this from the rookie. RGIII has already become the face of this franchise...supplanting Orakpo, Kerrigan, Fletcher, and others. It seems like he is earning respect from the locker room for his work ethic and practice habits, and veterans are actually excited about the potential of this team.spenser wrote:While I agree he didn't necessarily need to send that out to vets like Fletcher, I don't have a problem with it at all. It is difficult to keep my expectations for this season down when I read items like this.....but I still think that this will be more of a team learning/building season than a playoff season....but should be a far more EXCITING season than in recent past....
