What if...
I was raised a Redskin fan but didn't really start closely following the team until I was about 10 years old. In the past decade, I've seen the Redskins reach the playoffs only once and more or less come closer and closer to becoming the Arizona Cardinals. I'm now more excited than ever about the return of Gibbs and can't realistically foresee the Skins struggling too much longer. BUT...what if, for some reason, Gibbs does have trouble readjusting to the NFL and the Skins don't return to contention? I'm very confident that they will, but in the event that they don't, where does the team go from there?? If Gibbs can't turn this team around, who can?!?! Constantly imploding the team and rebuilding has been ineffective, so what other strategies could Snyder take? Just curious to get your thoughts. If this seems melodramatic, I apologize, I guess I'm just concerned about that tiny shred of doubt that I have in Master Gibbs.

I was in high school when Coach Gibbs retired. It was as if I had lost a family member. I have never waivered in my devotion to the skins, but the feeling around the area has never been the same. I remember Coach Gibbs' effect on the ball club and the area and I have no doubt in his abilities as a leader of men. If he doesn't succeed it won't be because he didn't give his best effort.
If, after 5 years, the Redskins are not a perennial playoff contender, I think the city and fandom will be calling for Dan Snyder's head. There is nothing else the current redskins front office can do to improve the team. The time will call for complete turnover again, only this time instead of the roster and/or coaching staff, it will be Danny and Vinnie whose heads will roll.

Your comparison to the Cardinals is a bit harsh, say what you will but this organiztion has gone overboard trying to win. The Cardinals are one of the worst run franchises in all of sports...they have finally made some moves this year. Glad to hear your excited, sit tight your in for a treat!

I became a Redskins fan right when Joe Gibbs starting coaching them. The success he had is umatched. But I was arrogant and didn't know any better. When he left, I was sad but thought it was the players that won and not the coach. Then Ritchie Pettibon was promoted to coach my beloved Skins and it's been all downhill ever since.
Joe Gibbs will win. The man commands respect and the change in the team will be immediately felt. He is a master at game planning and making in-game adjustments. He has won at everything in his life and wouldn't have come back if he didn't think he could salavage the Redskins. You're in for a real treat each and every Sunday.

How many more sleeps until next season?
I'm sorry, I can't remember what this thread is about. I blocked it all out after "What if Joe Gibbs can't turn it around?" It doesn't matter how many times I re-read it, it just goes in one ear (eye?) and out the other.

Gibbs
very legit question, and sure it's only normal to feel a sense of doubt in Gibb's ability to turn this franchise around after being gone for 12 years from the NFL.
I personally think that this franchise has done evrything it could to be a winner over the years (Synders reign), from all the FA moves over the years to the young talented players who we drafted as well, to pin point the total problem with this franchise I really don't know the answer, but to be honest I believe the HC's we have had here didn't get the best out of their players and to a certain point they were not respected by the players.
The thing I believe will be different with Gibbs back will be he will get the players very best effort or else they will simply not play, regardless of who it is: (Arrington, Portis, Coles, etc.... just to throw names out there) Gibbs will not put up with some of the things that have happened here the last few seasons, penalties, players quiting on plays, etc....Gibbs will get the very best out of these guys imho.
NOw if Gibbs isn't the man to turn this franchise around then I couldn't give you a answer as to it could be, but remember this, even if we don't win a SB or even make it too 1, imho as long as this team contends for the Division and isn't a slacking team that they have become verses certain teams over the years then I'd be a happy camper.

Gibbs will do fine. He is the master of adjustments, so I fully expect him to adjust to the nuances of the game in the 2000's.
I have said it before, but the only thing I think he will have difficulty adjusting to is the type of music in the locker room.

I am in a state of ecstasy! Never mind that nonsense about euphoria and so on. It is sheer, unadulterated, uncompromising ecstasy!

i do indeed share you,re concerns.todays nfl is much more advanced but keeping in mind that joe gibbs now is the same man this organization has seen before and the league for that matter as well.but like others up here has said joe gibbs has a very solid coaching staff and greg williams has been thru this new nfl so i,m sure he has given joe a few pointers along the way.beleive me these past 12 years has been full of misery with one division title and one playoff appearance thrown in it.and beleive you me i have thrown a few things these last several years.i,m my own teams biggest critic as well as fan.i,ve seen the best and the worst in this organizatio now i,m ready to win some more and get back in the direction they need to be in.
welcome to the board

so yeah it concerns me a little but not alot really!

Seems to me that JG has also done wisely by surrounding himself with knowledgeable and capable guys who will not be quintessential "yes" men. JG's a wise owl who will surprise many would-be football prognosticators who predict the Patriots will win another SB, or who think the Eagles actually have what it takes to take it all (BTW, does TO play CB, too? lol).
