"The Arm"

The ARM

The link was originally posted by emoses14 HERE, but I thought it needed it's own thread...

When I jumped on the Griff train in Sept, it was about both the elusiveness, and his arm... but, I had no idea... I thought he was a really good player, who would fall to us (at the time there were several Juniors that folks thought would declare). I did think he was good enough to become that coveted "franchise" quarterback... but probably a really good quarterback.

The Arm.

The preseason has yet to begin... but, it's becoming legend. When other quarterbacks... when seasoned pros... stumble to describe it, that is impressive. When the most curmudgeonly Head Coach in football gushes... that's impressive.

I Can NOT wait.

When the back up QB's are amazed during a time of competition, that's impressive indeed.

oh my, it happened again....now even a player on team used michael vick in a comparison...how could he do that? Doesnt he know that no two black QB's can ever be the same in any way and comparing two is just simple racism and therefore we should only compare Rg3 to the greatest players in the history of the game like john elway and aaron rodgers, because that's much more accurate and ethical?

"It’s more of running to your left and flicking your wrist and throwing the ball 70 yards,” described backup quarterback Rex Grossman, comparing Griffin’s arm action to Michael Vick’s. “His arm almost comes off like a whip.”

I hope he also has The Other Arm, The Head, The Legs, and The Body to be a complete player. All this nickname stuff is fun and he has obvious throwing power, but I would love it to translate to wins. That's really all that matters. Carry on

When's the last time we got a consistent bomb from a Redskins QB? Campbell always seemed to be off by a few yards. McNabb had a pretty good one, but his other problems negated its impact. Brunell, aside from two miracle throws within minutes of each other, wasn't much for the long throw. Patrick Ramsey could never settle his feet (whether due to poor protection or nerves) long enough to throw one.

After that, my memory starts to get fuzzy . . .

It's been too long. Get the damn ball down the field. Take 2-3 shots per half. When the QB is that good, some of them are going to connect.

Mark Rypien comes to mind.

HOWEVER, I refuse to join in the celebration UNTIL we prove it on the field and under pressure.

Yes, the indications are right.

Yes, the comments by players and coaches are very positive.

Yes, he is saying all the right things.

No, it is not too good to be true. BUT ... until and when the proof is on the field during the regular season, I prefer not to sing anybody's praises.

I hear and read some of you say: I CAN'T WAIT. Well, I not only can but feel that we SHOULD (as difficult as that can be). There are new receivers, new QB, our RB is back, some OL and DL are back ... etc

There is a LOT to come into SYNC before the first game:

Practice makes perfect, the more practice, the more perfect

When the right time comes, I will try to cheer to the full strength of my lungs. In the meantime, I try to stay cool and patiently wait for my team to go to the field ... then it gets interesting.

Yes if RG3 can have consistency through this year and the seasons to come, he could be that franchise quaterback we need.

I agree with RiC, it was Rypien. He was the last quarterback that would throw the ball beyond 15 yards and my first thought wasn't "I hope its not picked off."
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

I concur with your thoughts....but it is pretty hard not to get overly hyped about this kid's potential. I haven't bought a RGIII jersey....yet.....

WRT QB's with an arm......though he was not here long, and he was a head case....Jeff George had a gun for an arm. But, outside of that, I would agree that the last QB we had who was known for the deep ball....and won for us....was Mark Rypien.

How quickly everyone forgets the victory in Dallas on Monday night 14-13.

When Brunell wasn't throwing to the Gatorade jug he was launching it deep...

Brother,

I am REALLY tired of living from JKC-epoch memories and a few flashes here and there over the past decade.

I want to beat the Pukes game after game after game over the next decade.

I want us to OWN the NFC East.

I want playoffs and wins in them.

I want more Lombardi Trophies in Redskins Park.

I want other teams to HATE to have to play against us.

I want the best players all over the NFL to want to come and play for us.

I want teams to come with their head down when they play in our house.

That's what I want!!!

So many people forget how bad a throw that first TD was. It was so far off target that that idiot Roy Williams ran past where the ball went because he was running to where the balk souls have been.

With that said, that game was just fantastic! At least the ending was, rest of the game sucked.

I disagree completely. A defender over ran it but the ball hit him in stride. He threw into double coverage but to say that ball was "so far off target" is flat out wrong.

Absolutely true... those were both perfect, in-stride passes of over 50 yards... OTOH... that was at the limit of Brunell's range... and RGIII is soon going to redefine the meaning of "deep pass" for Redskins fans... IMHO...

Same here. I have a fair number of good memories from Gibbs' second run. Individual plays here and there. The occasional amazing win.

I can't wait to get some memories of a dominating team, though.

Well, i didnt recall that game because i turned off mnf at the end of the third quarter in disgust.....dreading the harassment i would receive the next morning at work from cowgirl fans. Found out we had won, and in dramatic fashion, on the drive into work listening to espn......turned out to be a good week!

I was standing behind the couch, remote in hand, about to turn it off, when the first bomb landed!  :D

TRULY a great memory

It sounds like 'the Arm' ought to be worth at LEAST 3 points per game.
3 more points per game the last two seasons and I believe we have a pretty good record.

In reality, 'the Arm', along with 'the Legs' and 'the Mind' are almost certain to generate many times that. Our "D" seems to be solid, perhaps improving. Dominance appears to be within grasping distance. Now if I can just hold my breath just a little longer . . .
