Yeah, Cooley may be on the bubble if Niles Paul shows up big in camp. I like Cooley, but a restructured contract might be the only way he stays here.

Josh LeRibeus said on ESPN980 today that people have compared him to Russ Grimm. He said he thought it was because of the 'porn stache.'

I like this dude already.

He also says that he loves playing Center and has taken most of his reps there.

Stay tuned

Sounds promising...

If he turns into a useful centre and Monty shifts over one to the right I'll feel happier about the OL.

Thursday Practice Notes: Full-Team OTA's

The defensive play of the day went to new safety Madieu Williams, who swiped the ball away from Paul on a red zone play. It was an athletic catch by Paul, but a better play by Williams to knock it away.
Defensive end Stephen Bowen and receiver Leonard Hankerson worked with trainers on the sidelines, and did not suit up. Running back Tim Hightower did suit up, but did not participate in team drills. Defensive end Adam Carriker did not participate in drills, as he was battling blisters from earlier in the week.

Rex Grossman Coming To Terms With Being Robert Griffin III’s Backup

Rex Grossman hasn’t had a lot of time to watch Robert Griffin III through the first six days of the Washington Redskins’ organized team activities, but he already likes what he’s seen.

“From day one, he hadn’t had a missed call,” Grossman said Thursday at Redskins Park. “He’s gotten a lot better from the first day I was out here until today, you know? He looks pretty good. He’s definitely getting better. Somebody with that skill set – the sky’s the limit.”

Griffin, the No. 2 overall selection in the NFL Draft in April, was named the starting quarterback by head coach Mike Shanahan after the conclusion of rookie minicamp earlier this month.

10 Quick-Hitters From Redskins Parkby Grant Paulsen
Barry Cofield and Tanard Jackson were the only Redskins not in attendance at today’s OTA practice. Mike Shanahan said both absence’s were excused.
Tim Hightower was held out of today’s practice. Shanahan said he expects Hightower (still recovering from mid-season knee surgery) to be ready for training camp
Brian Orakpo’s left pectoral muscle was wrapped today as he watched Washington’s 11-on-11 drills from the sideline. He told me that he was held out for precautionary reasons and that he is just fine. You may remember that he injured the muscle after a multi-sack first half against the New York Giants in Week-17. Mike Shanahan said MRI’s were taken of the pectoral recently, and that the Redskins aren’t concerned about Orakpo. He should be back on the field soon.
Niles Paul stood out in today’s practice, catching two deep balls while being matched up against a safety and a linebacker. His transition to tight end will hinge more on his development as a blocker than as a pass-catcher, but there’s no question that a tight end with his 4.5 speed will present problems for defenses.

I like this one too...

“I was a fan,... Growing up I was a Bronco fan so you see coach Shanahan and that’s the coach of your favorite team. So when I met him at the Combine and they traded up for me it was kind of like a dream come true to be here and play for him in this offense — an offense I watched John Elway tear defenses up in.”

Fixed for clarity.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

RG3 trying to take care of his protectors
Griffin said he thinks holding calls often arise from offensive linemen simply trying to overprotect their quarterback. As a guy who lives and breathes on the linemen’s ability to do their job, that’s a penalty Griffin can live with.

“I’d rather them have a holding call than have myself in the hospital,” he said.

And if the offensive linemen do their job just right, there might even be a little something extra in it for them from RG3 himself.

“My family is from New Orleans, Louisiana, and I know how to cook beignets,” Griffin joked. “For every no-sack victory, they’ll get beignets. And I think they’ll love those.”

Mkey Shan says the players are 100% attending but not all are participating....nice
Spring practices – organized team activities if you prefer – are not mandatory in the NFL, but attendance is preferred. Actually, in the case of Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan showing up or at the minimum being accountable is expected. Through two weeks of OTAs, so far, so good.

“We’ve had some good work, guys are working hard, we got some competition – that’s what you look for in these OTA days,” Shanahan said following Thursday’s outdoor practice at Redskins Park. “We’ve got 100% attendance. If a guy has missed, it’s been an excused absence.”

all the teams have reported over 90%. and really.......what's the difference if a kentwan balmer IS participating but a Justin Tuck is not.

or if a Roy helu IS participating but a lasean mcoy is not.

the top teams in the league have double the football talent the redskins have. so does all 3 other teams in their division.

June 1st - little over 3 months till we get to see the new era begin

HAIL to old DC and HAIL to RGIII

the competition for roster spots, especially with the O linemen, is going to be intense - these are the guys that will become huge for us in the years to come as we get this offense rolling

it's great to hear that the players seem to be responding to Mike and his 'demands' about attendance at these 'voluntary' activities
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

where are you hearing that its a problem with any of the other 31 teams? That's what I thought.

The Redskins love to advertise how great their participation record is - I remember Joe Gibbs making press conferences about it.

The trouble with the Redskins is not participation. Its the lack of talent that IS participating.

You're not 5-11 every year because you're good. Your record every year is why your argument LOSES and mine WINS.

Kirk Cousins, the quarterback the Redskins drafted three rounds after they took Griffin, marvels at RG III's accuracy. Cousins has seen plenty of passers who can throw hard. He has also seen a lot who can throw long. But to throw the ball three quarters of the length of the field and have it land right where you want it?

This, Cousins had never seen.

"He can put the ball into tight windows," he said.
Hehehehehehehehe

Can't. Wait.
