"The Cardinals on Thursday resolved one of their more-pressing issues before the start of the 2012 season by agreeing to a five-year contract extension with defensive end Calais Campbell.
The signing, expected to become official Friday before Campbell meets the media for a 1 p.m. news conference at the team's Tempe training facility, locks up the team's primary future free agent in his prime and allows for some precious relief in the franchise's salary cap moving forward.
Terms of the deal weren't immediately available. The NFL Network reported that the deal is worth $55 million. Campbell's annual salary-cap figure is expected to be considerably lower than the $10.7 million non-exclusive franchise tag the Cardinals placed on him March 2."
