Cowboys Can't Sign Draft Picks

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Cowboys Can't Sign Draft Picks

Post by Red_One43 »

The Cowboys won’t be signing any of their draftees until after June 1, according to a report from Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The issue is cap space, something that the Cowboys won’t have enough of until after that date because of the decision to cut Terence Newman. While Newman was released two months ago, it went on the books as a June 1 cut and that means the Cowboys don’t get $6 million of related cap relief until that date.

As of now, the Cowboys have about $2.14 million in cap space. They need roughly $5.7 million to sign their draft picks so the Newman money is crucial to the cause. Most of it will wind up going to first-round pick Morris Claiborne, whose addition could wind up forcing another cornerback, Mike Jenkins, off the roster.

Per Williams, the cap squeeze is also keeping the Cowboys from getting involved in the chase for wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Jones. He could potentially help the offense and the special teams, but the Cowboys need the money for other players.

This article speaks volumes for Shanny and Allen. We lost $18 million in cap space for this year, but still seemed to carry on business as usual in FA. This is not to say plans weren't altered, but we took care of priorities - playmakers, secondary, LB, Carriker and of course, Fletcher AND we have money still have money to sign our picks (three have signed so far).

OR

he could be thinking that we're both getting a damages award from all this too

j/k
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I forgot they split it into two years. But, we could have taken the full hit this year, so I don't see why we can't get the full retribution this year.

Whew!! Thank Goodness. . . I was starting to worry.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

You MIGHT be fine. LOL IF the ruling favors you. If it doesn't, then you aren't and won't be fine...considering what you'll have to do to make room.

^^ agreed

AND

no matter what happens with the ruling (or settlement) on the cap issue

you are still going to have J Jones as the owner and QB T Romo

and

while the CB will most likely be a very good NFL player

the pukes should have taken S Mark Barron -

And, I'm still like "wow... they blew off the ONE player that would have made a difference in their defense... wow... " So, yeah, they got a really good corner... probably a great corner... but corner isn't their problem on defense... It's almost as if they looked at this and said... "What would be most beneficial to RGIII in DC? I know... Let's NOT take Mark Barron!" Here's to pathetic safety play in Dallas... FOREVER!!!

I held my breath when the stupid pukes traded up and could not believe they did not take Mark Barron

The CB looks like being a very good NFL player but Barron is a difference maker at a very important position

I am VERY glad he's not with the stupid pukes

And really, how many corners come into the league and do great their rookie season? I expect Claiborne to have some growing pains against the better NFC East receivers.

Claiborne will be excellent... but, again, corner was NOT their problem on defense... they blew their opportunity to get a franchise safety...

Don't sweat it... it's TOO LATE for them to do anything about it... time to start rubbing it in.

How sweet would it be if we traded for Barron in a couple of years time and he came to play in the B&G...???

Imagine him picking off the their QB 4 or 5 times a season and deep down them knowing they could of/should of had him all along.....

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

As far as I am concerned. As long as Jerruh is walking the sideline the Pies will continue to be mediocre. All though Claiborne seems to be a good player.

Yes, please Jerruh stay as Owner/ GM and Romosimpson as QB. That will be a (non) winning combination for years. :D
