Redskin Reunion Pictures......

Post by skinsfan44 »

The Redskin Reunion at the Frederick Fairgrounds on Saturday was great.

Ex-players that were there were, of course Art Monk and Charles Mann, your hosts of the charity event.

Also on hand were Dave Butz, Tony Mcgee, Pat Fisher, and Darrell Green.

Several players didn't show up. I only know of Joe Jacoby as one of the players that didn't show. Shame, shame.

Everyone signed autografts, except Green. At first everyone there didn't understand why, until the auction started and they auctioned off 2 signed D. Green jerseys, one that he wore on stage went for $4000 dollars.

During the autograft signing, Monk, Mann, Mcgee, and Fisher signed for around 2 hours or so, but Dave Butz stayed out there in the sun, and signed autos until no one was left, which was about 3 1/2 hours. He refused to quit when offered a break.

Dave Butz is the man.

When my wife and I got Dave Butz sig, he talked to us for a minute, and he even put his Superbowl ring on my wifes hand. That was way cool. I, myself am 6'2". I am not a small guy. I have big hands, but when I shook his hand, it was huge. I ware a size 14 ring, but my wife thinks his ring was at least an 18. It was like shaking someones hand that had on a baseball mit.

Then the raffle for the Corrvett, $20,000 and the Harley happened at the end. The person that won the Vet was the ex-mayor of Frederick, Jim Grimms. He was also a sponser.

Sounded a little fishy to me. Others thought the same thing, but what are you going to do.

Dave Butz is one of my all-time favorite Redskins. The guy was a force, and always dependable. I would have loved to have been there to meet him. What a great story! Thanks for sharing, skinsfan.

No surprise that Butz was so cool. Another nice thing is that he has to come from his home in the midwest to get here. Also no surprise is that Green decided not to sign. It certainly doesn't tarnish his fabulous career on the field, but his "nice guy" image has come into question with almost anyone who's ever attended an event where DG was present.

Long and great Redskins career: Green & Monk qualify.

No embarrassing off-field problems: Green & Monk qualify.

Expressions of faith & care for the community: Green & Monk qualify.

Accessibilty and MUTUAL admiration with Skins fans: uh...well, Monk qualifies.

If there's a "Mr. Redskin" I'd give it to Monk (or quite a few others, Dave Butz, Bobby Mitchell, etc.) LONG before I'd mention Darrell Green.
