Shanny wants to make up for not drafting QBs in the last two drafts.
Not entirely inaccurate. That he didn't find QB's he liked where he was picking as badly as we needed one is exactly why you pick one when they are there and they are one you like where they are. If he passes on a quality backup guy now it may be years before he can draft another.
Agreed. Shanny is all about getting the guys that he wants and not about getting guys just because of their position.

This is not right no matter what spin anybody puts in it.

I think OTA's and and mini camps just got more exciting - RGIII is safe. Kirk Cousins is safe, but I don't think Rex is safe and I don't think that Beck is the odd man out. Rex has proven that he won't change, but Beck has only been given limited time to improve.
We all watched T.J. Yates play welll enough as a rookie in this offense to get the Texans to the play-offs, why can't Cousins do the same if need be (and hopefully it won't need be).
Day 1 QB depth = RGIII, Beck and Cousins.
How about that spin, RiC?
I'm with RiC, total waste of a pick IMO.
Rex had a tough year with too many int's - but to be fair to him he moved the ball quite well considering: he had a messed up OL, no running game whatsoever in half of the games, a below average bunch of WRs, no recognised TE for the last few games, and was behind and chasing the game 9 times out of 10.
As these needs should all be addressed he'll be better next season IF we had to call on him.
Id take a flyer on vontaze burfict with one of our sixths...a lot of baggage, but a lot of potential if he gets his head screwed on right. If anyone can help him with that its London Fletcher

Rex was on a very good team when the Bears went to the Super Bowl - he still made the same kind of mistakes then that he makes now, so all the explanations that you gave for his poor performance last year, do not account for his history of turnovers.
If Shanny drafted Cousins to be the long term back up and possibly even this year, then it can hardly be a wasted pick.
We watched T. J. Yates guide the Texans to the play -offs last year. We saw Gus Ferrotte take over for Heath Shuler. A rookie back up can play in this league. doesn't happen oftern which is why Shanny is select the the best three QBs for the roster this year - I say three because now will are looking at at least two rookie QBs on the roster, so we should have one vet - I am not sold that after training camp that vet is the TO machine Rex Grossman.

Any more Senior Bowl guys that you think Shanny might like? Still think that you are on to something.
How about Antonio Allen, safety out of So.Carolina...
Wes Bunting:
Impression: A physical in the box type player who doesn't key overly well. Isn't an NFL caliber pass defender either and looks more like a very average old school type strong safety.
Dang! Kinda sounds like LaRon. Because of his phyical nature inside the box, I could see us taking him.

I'm not making a case for RG8 to start, he does turnover the ball too much and that is why he should be a backup for the rest of his career. BUT HOW MANY OTHER TEAMS IN THE NFL HAVE A BACKUP QB WHO HAS TAKEN HIS TEAM TO THE SUPERBOWL....???
We need more help in other areas. Its a waste of a pick at this stage of the teams development.
After the initial shock of another QB so drafted relatively early has passed, I feel very happy about Cousins. My biggest worry for RGIII is injuries. God forbid after all the hoopla that he busts his knee, or some other freakish thing happens. What then?
We have seen Philly struggle a bit with this. I could see Cousins being upset, but at the same time, I feel like the depth was needed and we need to jettison some of the crap.
I had heard murmurs of Aaron Corp from U. of Richmond. Seen him play and was not impressed. Glad we didn't end up with a defect from USC that couldn't get it done for the Spiders in the CAA.
QB position is solidified now hopefully for years to come. When could we say that in the past 2-3 decades?
I think it is obvious now that Shanahan is not worried about Right Tackle, or thinks he can get someone in Free Agency after the draft. I expect to see some depth at DB and maybe a RB yet. These guys will also be potential special teams guys. We'll see. So far I am feeling B+ for the Skins on the draft overall. These guys would probably be big mistakes or reaches for other teams, but I think they'll flourish in the Burgundy and Gold.

OK, I will respect your opinion. Right now, it can certainly seem like a wasted pick. I really trust what Shanny is doing and I think that it will come to light why he chose Cousins and it will be a good light.

Rex did not TAKE the bears to the superbowl, he enjoyed the ride. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it was the defense and special teams that took the Bears to the Superbowl that year.

Well, John Beck's contract has been terminated, so pass me the plate of crow. Looks like it is RGIII, RG3 and Cousins.

Fair enough, but do you get my point...? He's capable, which is what good backups are. If he wasn't flawed he'd be a starter. Our particular backup has the experience of having had a ride to the big one, that's a plus in my books.
The point is we could have used that pick on a more pressing need...

Yeah, I get the point. I am ok with Rex as a backup. I am thrilled with three-deep including a rookie that could develop in case he is needed in a year or two should something tragic happen.
