LUCK and RGIII with GRUDEN

Post by rskin72 »

So....who saw Gruden with Luck on Friday...and who will watch RGIII tonight?

Must say that I prefer RGIII.... but after seeing more and more on Luck I am warming up to his potential if he were to fall to us. Will be interesting to see all of the RGIII interview tonight. In the previews on ESPN, see where they discuss potential of being drafted by the Redskins.

For those who saw the shows, did this change any views on the two QB's?

I didn't watch it, but I saw this clip. It is hilarious.

Spider 2 and 3 Y banana! Hilarious!

Yes, Luck, no doubt, will be a stud QB with the Colts and I would bet a Hall of Famer.

Preview of RGIII's camp

Love RGIII's confidence in himself. It will be contagious. We need that in a QB. I bet he will be a Hall of Famer as well.

Lol - the Gruden show, with occasional comments from his guest. He knows QB play though. Luck and Griffin are both as close to being nailed-on superstars as anybody can be. That guarantees NOTHING, but the odds are good :-)

after thoughts

Post by rskin72 »

Well, I was a little underwhelmed with the 30 minute show......seemed a little more like a love fest than some tough questions aimed to test his football IQ. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed hearing RGIII answer and react to Gruden....and certainly RGIII did not seem overly awed and intimidated, good answers combined with polite and attentive. But just was not completely what I was expecting from Gruden.

RGIII seemed to throw pretty well....showed off his pocket movement skills and accuracy on the run. Would have like to have seen more of the actual throwing portion.

Thanks.

The more I see of this guy, and hear him talk, the more impressed I am. Calls Gruden "Sir" during the drills. All business during the drills. And then he gave Gruden a gift during the sit-down...which Gruden was quick to point out that he's the only QB of 19 interviewed so far who gave him a gift. It's thoughtful.

Man crush on this guy for sure.

I agree rskin, I was looking for Gruden to grill RGIII like he did came Newton, but I see the Gruden Camp being more about Gruden and ratings. He had fun grilling Luck with the Y Banana pick 6, but he did not attempt to grill RGIII on that pick in the end zone. Was it because the mistake made by RGIII wouldn't have helped the ratings like the Y Banana? Is it because RGIII is so confident and articulate that he would have schooled Gruden on what the real mistake was as opposed to the one that Gruden thought it was? I guess we won't know unless someone asks Gruden?

Like you, I enjoyed RGIII, but I did not see Gruden attack like he did to the rest of the QBs.

I was a bit disappointed that Gruden didn't challenge him... otoh... maybe he did, and the part where RGIII made the coach look foolish were edited out! :-$

^I am thinking that this is probably the reason. I have read comments on the youtube that Gruden is so in love with RGIII that he left him alone, but I really think that RGIII earned his respect and I don't think it was because he gave Gruden the socks. lol

There is no reason that I can see that Gruden would back off on him because of some favoritism. Gruden clearly has fun picking at these QBs and it looks good for the ratings. They just might have edited it out. Shanny isn't the only NFL coach with an ego. Gruden's is up there as well. :)

He needed help on the chalkboard.....

Not Griff but Gruden

So, in an attempt to get this question answered for you, I reached out to Monday Night Football producer Jay Rothman, who was happy to explain that they collect more than five hours of tape for each of these shows and must, of course, cut that down to the most compelling possible 22 or 23 minutes (to account for the commercials). Additionally, they've made 10 of these this year, with 10 different quarterbacks. The Luck and Griffin ones were just the first two to air. They don't want each of them to feel exactly the same.

"In the case of RG3, he had such a great personality, the stuff he was giving us was compelling," Rothman said. "Each of the shows has its own personality and feel, and I think at the end of the RG3 one, fans got a sense of what the kid was all about. In the body of the storytelling, you get a sense of the kid -- his personality, his smarts, all of that."

The important thing to remember is that Griffin was put through the same X-and-O paces by Gruden as Luck was. That stuff just didn't make it on-air. But if you really want to see it, you will get your chance.

Rothman told me that Gruden occasionally brings in a guest when he feels it's appropriate to the subject, and he invited former NFL quarterback (and Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 pick) Vinny Testaverde in for the chalkboard portion of his time with Griffin. The producers are in the process of editing that portion of the session -- Griffin being grilled on Xs and Os by Gruden and Testaverde -- to air on a future edition of "NFL Live." So at some point in the future (I'll try my best to let you know when), you will be able to see that portion of Griffin's time with Gruden, if you're hungry for more.

Now I can't wait to see it.

Sounds good. Let us know if he eventually says when it's supposed to air.

If RG3 could reach these mins (3700 passing yards, 12 ints, 4 fumble lost, 24 TD passes, and 2 rushing TDs) he could help us to the playoffs this year. I think those are very fair values when compared to other recent rookies that started game one.

Compare your stats to Grossman's 13 game stats for last year and we are in the play offs last year. I think that it is very reasonable to believe that much better QB play puts us in the play offs for this year.

If RG3 hits some nice deep balls in the preseason it will surely open up the run game and underneath passing routes. I hope he can handle the blitzes cuz he will see loads of teams sending the house to get him rattled.

This is certainly true... but... This kid is smart... he KNOWS what is coming, and he is going to be drilled intensely by a very good Redskins front seven... he WILL be ready... and, they won't do it for very long.

 @Haynesworth reference at the end.

RG3 will be just fine, if they want to send the house with our speedy WRs, that's fine too.. good luck with that defenses.
