Peyton Manning to the Broncos and what it means for them

Here's what I think.

Broncos to sign QB Peyton Manning: I'll give them an
A Grade

I love watching Tim Tebow, and I'm upset that he probably won't get a chance to start next year. The NFL won't be nearly as exciting as it was in the second half of last season. Having said that, the Broncos made the right move. Landing a future Hall of Fame quarterback is a no-brainer for any team that doesn't have one.

The Broncos are now the unquestioned top team in the AFC West, and are certainly one of the favorites in the conference. Manning will give them a chance to win every game, even if they fall behind by a few touchdowns against the Patriots in the playoffs. That's what Manning brings to the table, assuming that he's healthy.

Denver's aerial attack will obviously be explosive. Demaryius Thomas has unbelievable talent, and he could easily emerge as a top-five receiver, statistically, with Manning at the helm. The Broncos will have to acquire a No. 2 receiver, a proven tight end, some offensive linemen and a running back because Willis McGahee's tank is nearing empty. All but the former can be satisfied with Manning's former teammates (Dallas Clark, Jeff Saturday, Joseph Addai). The wideout can come via the 2012 NFL Draft (Stephen Hill, Kendall Wright). Once Denver gets all of that shored up, it'll have the appropriate offense to complement John Fox's defense, which is infinitely better with a lead because of Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil's ability to get to the quarterback.

Two things prevent this from being an A+. Most prominently is Manning's neck. There's always a chance that he could be damaged goods, though I'm sure the Bronco team doctors did a good job evaluating him. Also, the Tebow factor has to be considered. Denver fans love him, so in the unlikely scenario that this Manning signing fails, those people will revolt against Elway. Again, the Broncos had to do this, so I'm not saying that Elway should have stuck with Tebow. But it does come with an added risk of major fan backlash if things go awry.

As for Tebow, the Broncos are expected to trade or cut him. I'm not even sure where he could go. All of the teams that have quarterback openings don't run an offense suited for him. The Jaguars don't want Tebow, as reported. Perhaps the Bills will want to bring him on as a backup. I'd keep Tebow-san and have him learn under Manning if I were Kreese Elway, but I'm not an evil dojo master. What do you guys think will happen? Also where do you think Tebow will or should go?

I think Broncos fans will probably give Elway the benefit of a doubt. He's likely earned some leeway with them.

I think denver definitely gets rid of Tebow. Fromt their perspective, he and his fans are just a big headache that was tolerated last year, now they've got a chance for a clean breack and real QB. Though I'm a little concerned about his neck, arm, I'm not a dr and don't play one on TV so I won't speculate. If he's good to go, they're gonna be good, real good. If not, uh-oh.

As for Tebow, he'll end up at Fullback or tight end. I thnk he'd be fine at either position. He just doesn't have it to be a QB.

Reports say that HC Mike Mularky and GM Gene Smith don't "want" Tebow, but that Owner Shahid Khan would like to have Tebow.

OK, so I'm watching NFL Network this morning, and they're replaying part of Rich Eisen's podcast with Peyton Manning. And he asks him, "Did you not want to play in the NFC because you might have to play your brother, or possibly knock each other out of contention before meeting in the SB?" Peyton flat out denied that was the case. He implied he went where the money was best, but then he made a couple of really disingenuous comments. He says, "I was just waiting for someone to tell me where I was going to play. The draft is great, because you get selected by a team, and you go play there." I'm thinking, yeah, that's just how Eli did it!
