I'm surprised at the lack of speculation regarding the fact that though they both attended RG3's day, neither the Colts GM or HC actually attended Luck's Pro day ..... ? ... no hidden messages in that?
Is their decision to take Luck so much carved in stone that neither felt the need to go see him throw? Is it simply the fact that they have already secretly made it known to the Luck camp that they'll be picking him, so no need to attend? Or has it been decided that they're going to shock everyone and take RG3?
If you ask me, I'd say it's possible that they may have been leaning toward RG3, and his Pro day solidified that decision. Otherwise, the politics of having the GM and HC offer the courtesy of attending Luck's work out would make sense if indeed they intend to have Luck as the new face of the Colt's franchise.
Head's up Redskin fans .... don't go reserving your RG3 Redskin jersey just yet ... you might be un-Luck-y

Or they went to RG3 pro day yesterday just to make sure they didn't miss anything. They didn't and now they are sure about taking Luck.
I would be fine with either.
Miss you 21

Colts Brass
I heard as well that Colts Brass was not at Luck day...did not know which way to interpret that. Listening to NFL radio, both QB's were given a lot of love, with the thought that Luck would be more NFL DAY 1 ready due to system he played in at Stanford. I heard that Snyder and Shanahan met with RGIII and parents while at Baylor pro day, did not hear same for Luck.......
Somehow, I think that Colts and Skins have/are speaking, and Skins know which way Colts are leaning. I mean, it would make no sense if Allen called the Colts GM, and asked who they were planning on taking with pick #1, and Colts would not say. As Skins are not in the AFC, I see nothing to be gained by keeping pick secret among those two teams....other than draft hype and fan anxiety.
I think both teams know who will be 1 and 2 already......

Watch the RGIII press conference following his pro day. When asked about teams he is talking to, it was all "Shanahan" "Redskins" "I was never a Dallas fan" "Shanahan asked be about our play book" "Oh, yeah, I talked to the Colts, too" "I've been to DC 3 times, I like it there" "If he (receiver) doesn't get picked in the first or second, I'll bet the team I'm on is willing to take him in the third".
Hard not to read a little more into that...

True that ... I feel the same way.
In addition, Luck mentioned the Colts and Manning a number of times but not the Skins.
Both QBs suspect the same

Sure it could make sense ..... the Colts are in the driver seat ... they get to choose whichever one they want, while the Redskins get second choice. And even though the speculation is that they will choose Luck, maybe they have decided to take RG3 instead ... what possible reason would they have to tell the Redskins (or anyone else) that? None ... they have nothing to gain by revealing that information.
The Colts have no way of knowing whether or not the Redskins might want one specific player badly enough to make a last minute offer to swap picks .... believing that the Colts really do intend on taking the guy they want.
The game isn't just played on the field.

The most likely scenario is exactly what everyone has always believed ... Luck #1 to the Colts, and RG3 to the Skins .... BUT nobody but the Colts really knows that for sure.
There are a lot of people on the RG3 bandwagon right now, and consider his upside to be greater than Luck, even though Luck may be more "day one ready" to be a starter .... and it is not out of the question that the Colts could be on that bandwagon too.
Since the Colts are in a total rebuilding phase, whoever they pick will be learning a new offense along with the rest of the team, so the "day one ready" issue may not be as much of a factor in their decision.

Hmm. So because (1) no one but the Colts know with certainty who they are going to take, (2) one of the many factors people have cited for picking Luck might in your opinion "not be as much of a factor in their decision," and (3) they were at the RGIII workout but apparently not the Luck workout . . . what's the conclusion? That they might very well have already decided to take RGIII?
There are some pieces of the puzzle there, sort of, I guess, but I don't see how they're supposed to add up. Every report by anyone with knowledge of the situation so far hasn't had one doubt that the Colts will select Luck.

Both ESPN and the NFL Network reported during Stanford's Pro Day event that the Colt's GM Ryan Grigson has walking pneumonia and "had to be pulled off the plane" that was heading to Palo Alto for Luck's Pro Day. There were also some reports that Chuck Pagano developed the flu.
Nevertheless, it has also been reported that the Colt's already have a private workout scheduled with Luck in April. So perhaps Grigson and Pagano felt comfortable missing Luck's Pro Day since they know they'll be able to get with him in a private workout much closer to the draft, which I believe is good news for us since that private workout will be their lasting impression heading into the draft.

Kind of moot anyway....
Colts have the #1 pick + the Colts owner has openly said multiple times that he wants Luck as the next QB = the Redskins get the QB they want.

Is "Kind of moot" is like being "Kind of pregnant"?
only it's less likely to disappoint your parents?

There are some pieces of the puzzle there, sort of, I guess, but I don't see how they're supposed to add up. Every report by anyone with knowledge of the situation so far hasn't had one doubt that the Colts will select Luck.
From the beginning, Luck has been the clear front runner, no doubt about that. And I personally felt Luck was way ahead a few months ago, due to a misconception about RG3 being a spread style "running" QB that would have to deal with a significant transition. Now, I see him as a true throwing QB who simply has the athleticism to run like the wind too, and his combination of arm strength, accuracy and ability to move makes him an extremely dynamic talent (without taking anything away from Luck ... Luck is still who he has always been). In other words, the gap has closed dramatically, with RG3 slowly moving up very close behind, and in some analyst's views, has moved slightly ahead in terms of arm strength, accuracy, and athleticism. The big differentiation remains to be Luck's experience in a Pro style offense ... and how he was a natural fit as a day one starter with the "Colt offense" ... "WAS" being a key ..... there is no "Colt Offense" now. They're all gone! And ... that big gap between Luck and RG3 is gone too. That clear #1 and #2 distinction is not so clear any longer.
So, depending on what type of new offensive philosophy the Colts are planning to pursue .... i. e. an offense that looks to incorporate more spread formations and movement from the QB ... RG3 could have an edge on Luck. And given their new strategy being employed which is clearly a "rebuild" approach ... that "Day One Ready" advantage Luck enjoys may also be less of a factor.
To make a long story short ... RG3 has moved up in the eyes of some, and we just don't know if that might include the new Colts management and coaching staff who have no reason whatsoever to reveal their thinking or strategy.
Of course it is possible that the "Dog ate their homework" and the Colts GM and HC were simultaneously too ill to attend Luck's Pro Day, and their absence was no indicator of anything.
But given that the Redskins were there suggests to me that they are not dismissing the possibility that Luck could be the #2 pick.

That's a weak argument because if that were the case, all of the Colts division opponents who actually play them twice each year would have been there scouting the competition, and not someone who isn't even on the Colts schedule for 2012.

If Luck fell to us, it would be unreal, but we are going to end up with RGIII -- which is a very good situation to be in.
I'm not saying I "expect" Luck to go #2 to us .... I'm just saying that the possibility isn't as impossible as many apparently think.
I also find it rather bazaar that 74% of the respondents here on the poll chose RG3 as the QB they'd like to draft, while apparently believing that Luck going to the Colts is somehow a carved in stone - no brainer.
But in our Orwellian world of up=down, I guess such direct contradiction seems altogether "logical".

Agree. After seeing the results, I would also like to ask: if you had the #1 pick, who would you select?
Because people believe RGIII will inevitably fall to us, they are selecting him.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.
Maybe the Colts just wanted to take a look at RGIII to make sure they did their due diligence. They already know all they need to about Luck, plus they are planning a private workout with him later. I don't think we should read too much into this.
