Sorry, but 3 firsts is ridiculous.
Really? You're not the least bit excited to see what this kid turns out to be?
Yes, I am --- BUT it is HUGE risk and if he flops, we are upeek not having a first round pick until 2015. There is no parachute on this one. Sorry, but this isn't Andrew Luck. The franchise just gave up a TON TON TON of future talent on a risk.
If RGIII doesn't pan out -- the possibility of giving up 3 top 10 picks is high.
You could also look upon this trade as Landry, Campbell and Rogers traded for a legitimate franchise QB prospect since draft picks are just that ... gambles that have no guarantee of attaining star players that provide years of quality production for the team. All three of those 1st round picks were busts for the Redskins ... more importantly ... in the Case of Campbell, there was a considerable waste of years of mediocre production that held this team in limbo.
The QB position is unique among the positions on the field ... high quality production at the QB spot translates into more success for the entire team as measured against any other position, including the number of years you can get from them.
In the case of both Luck and RG3, both of these guys have special qualities that aren't always available, and getting one of these guys is a huge upgrade for a team that hasn't had a top talent at that most critical position for many years.
And even though draft picks always present the possibility of not panning out, the Luck - RG3 situation is a little different. Neither one of these guys is considered a big risk for failure ... no "buts" in their profile or scouting reports. They have exceptional talent ... they have exceptional intelligence ... and the are absent of any of those off field or character issues that pose hidden risks.
I'd say both guys present the "safest" risk/reward ratio one can expect, with the likelihood of success very strong.
