Positives of signing EG:
1) Veteran leadership on offense
Besides Richie we had none last year. Now we have Richie, Keyshawn, and EG, along w/ all the veteran leaders on the D. From all reports Dan Campbell is one of the most vocal guys in the locker room also.
2) Pass blocking
Everyone to LA's right is inexperienced on the OL. EG will be a big help in pass blocking and buy our QB's that extra second or 2 in the passing game.
3) Short passing game
This is a ball control offense and EG's pass receiving skills give us another short to intermediate range target to go along w/ KJ, Witten, Richie, JJ, and Campbell.
4) BP likes varied styles from his RB's
He's got every type of back under the sun in JJ, Richie, and EG. Bruiser, compact speedster w/good hands, and the in between guy who's a crafty runner w/great hands.
5) Allows Julius to return kicks
Huge plus! Open up the game w/George and Richie pounding the ball up the middle of the D.......where em down and bring in JJ to spring the homeruns when the D gets tired. JJ is the all time leading KR guy at ND. We all know how bad our return game was last year.
YEAH I AM EXCITED LIKE HELL.....RUNNING BACK BY COMMITTEE IS COMING WITH GEORGE AND JONES........ITS GONNA BE SWEAT.......PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN

Plus, blue is a good color for George. He'd look more like a martian in Eagles green. No disrepect to the martians reading this thread.

Back and better than ever!

You could call it the "George Jones Connection". The stadium could play a George Jones song everytime they switch. Maybe the song about hiding the still in the hills of NC(sorry, I can't think of the title)
RIP 21

I have to tell you gambit, this is the one addition your team has made that makes me a little on the nervous side. I just posted a reply under a different thread stating that very same opinion. I honestly would like nothing better than to see Jones in as the starting back. Trial by fire you might say. Because if he starts.... Man is he going to get put under trial and burned. Also, he coughs up more balls than a cat does hairballs!!!
I figure... If life is all about the choices you make... Then I choose Redskin football, beer and hot wings!!

George now a Cowboy
ProFootballWeekly.com asks associate editor Jeff Reynolds for his thoughts on the hottest topics in the NFL.
Former Titans running back agrees to terms, likely to start in Dallas
The Cowboys announced Friday morning that they had agreed to contract terms with RB Eddie George less than 48 hours after he was released by the Titans. George will compete with rookie RB Julius Jones for playing time and carries.
PFW: How do you anticipate the coaching staff will divvy up playing time at the RB position?
Reynolds: Everything in Bill Parcells’ past indicates he’ll provide Eddie George, the power back, every opportunity to win the starting job and carry the ball 18-20 times per game. We know George isn’t the player he once was — nowhere near. But he still has the experience and body type (6-3, 235) Parcells wants in his starting running back. While Parcells experienced great success with smaller backs (the Giants’ Joe Morris, who was 5-7, 195, rushed for 1,516 yards in 1986), he prefers the Ottis Anderson (6-2, 220) or Curtis Martin (5-11, 208) type of back who can grind out extra yards, help execute his brand of physical football and protect leads late in the game. In 1989, for example, Morris rushed for 1,023 yards but averaged only 3.1 yards per carry on 325 carries; still, the Giants went 12-4 and won the NFC East.
That production is almost identical to George’s production in Tennessee last season — 312 carries, 1,031 yards and 3.3 yards per carry. Parcells didn’t get great production out of the RB position last season in Dallas. The Cowboys finished 12th in the league in yards per game, but only Carolina (522) had more running plays than Dallas (515) among NFC teams (in the AFC, Baltimore had 552 and Denver 543). The bottom line is Parcells wants to have a run-first offense, punish defenses and take minimal play-calling risks when they aren’t necessary.
The Titans don’t have an elite run-blocking line, but it might be as good or better than what Dallas has on paper. The Cowboys’ best run blocker is OLG Larry Allen, but he’s lost a lot of mobility. The Cowboys are most likely to start Al Johnson at center and rookie Jacob Rogers at right tackle, two players who have never played an NFL game. If the group doesn’t mesh right away, three yards per carry may be asking a lot of George.
Dallas would be best-served finding a healthy balance between the explosive Jones and the plodding but steady George. This is similar to what the Steelers are striving for with Jerome Bettis, a power back without a lot of tread left on his tires, who has to be in a situation where his skills are maximized. In Bettis’ case, that means 8-10 carries per game. For George, the number may be slightly higher.
George is often compared to Oilers great Earl Campbell. When Campbell was 31, he left Houston for New Orleans. In his second season with the Saints, Campbell averaged 9.9 carries per game. He produced better-than-expected numbers — 4.1 yards per carry and 40 yards per game. If Dallas can get a smidge more than that from George, it will have to please Parcells.
But now by him signing so soon that gives Gibbs time to prepare for both EG and JJ
