Picture his 4.39 speed in a 4 or 5 WR set. Somebody is getting open and if they use 4 or 5 CBs either somebody is still getting open or somebody is going to run.

DarthMonk

I doubt people will be scared of a 40 time in shorts on a track that he ran four years ago, they will just look at his FB type yards per catch numbers he puts up!

That's one way of looking at it. On the other hand, he'll be one of many 4.4 guys (conservative time BTW, not his best) on the field. In a 4 or 5 WR set no LB would have a prayer covering him.

Also, consider YAC instead of YPC. Guess what.

#1 in the NFL is Santana Moss with 505 YAC. #25 is Josh Morgan with 301 YAC.

... and at #8 in the NFL ahead of such players as Dwayne Bowe, Roddy White, Mike Wallace, Desean Jackson, Calvin Johnson, Mario Manningham, Andre Johnson, and Hakeem Nicks (all top 25 BTW) is

Eddie Royal with 409 YAC.

He leads the NFL with over 65% of his receiving yards as YAC.

This is exactly the trait Shannahan has been targeting in FA WRs.

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Ar ... catch.html

He is also an excellent return man. I hope we get him.

skinsfan#33 wrote:Those stats are from the 2010 season. During that season he had a 10.6 y/c ave and according to that site 6.8 of that was YAC. So his average catch was less than 4 yards from the LOS.

Exactly .. and guess who Moss's replacement is supposed to be.

How bad of an idea is Newman for our #3 cb? Paying him #3 money and at his age should be cheap.. he'd be an upgrade and I think his safeties hurt him more then him just getting old Ido I hate the pukes but love to sign em if they come tear it up #Bowen

FANTASTIC NEWS - Chelsea beat Napoli 4-1

OK - I'm back to watching this thread again

OH - we haven't signed the big time OL yet ?
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The only good point you made was the point about covering him with various position is in fact game planning. So let me be more specific, he isn't a guy that any DC would lose sleep over or spend more than five minutes game planning for. But part of that plan would include using a lot of coverages by SS, LBs and DEs dropping into his zone. He would also see a lot of the other team's 3rd or 4th best CB.

Based on Royal's paltry production is no f'ing way he could take Moss' spot, not effectively any way. He isn't remotely in Moss' neighborhood, he isn't even in his county.

Yes, you could let him catch passes all day, because at best you end up living FG.

You don't have to agree with me. I don't want Royal. I have nothing against him, I've just never seen a WR that can't average 11 y/c!

Cool.

One last thing(s) on ER.

In his rookie year a guy named Cutler was throwing to him.

He had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage.

His long TD was 93. He either went deep or broke a long run on that one.

He was #7 in the NFL in catches.

He was #6 in the NFL in all-purpose yards.

He was also #7 in the NFL in yards per touch.

He was a better-than-average #2 receiver by any reasonable accounting.

Cuter wants him now.

http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/ ... ddie-royal

Oh, and his coach was Mike Shanahan.

Last year the guy "throwing" to him was Tim Tebow who was leading a neanderthal offense under a defensive coach named John Fox.

If he becomes a Redskin he will be one of many 4.4 guys on the field simultaneously with RGIII throwing to him in a modern offense with you-know-who as his coach.

These facts matter in a discussion like this.

Did I mention he's an excellent return man?

I was wondering who Eddie Royal was 24 hours ago. Now I - along with Shanahan, Allen, and Cutler - want him.
Hey Guys - instead of having multiple topics regarding free agents that the Redskins actually sign - let's keep it all in one thread. I will do my best to continue to update this top post with the guys we sign. Something tells me it's going to be a slow day until we figure out how much we actually can spend.

WR - PIERRE GARCON (IND) 5-yr, $42.5M, roughly $21.5M guaranteed
WR - JOSH MORGAN (SF) - 5 - yr, up to $12m $7.5m guaranteed
DE - ADAM CARRIKER (WAS) 4-yr, $20m, 7 guaranteed
WR - Eddie Royal (Den)

If we sign royal, lookout!I like the way this club is making noise. We got our defense last yr,now, were fixing the offense.I say BRING IT!Its to early to say super bowl, but can you say division? The boys got Orton, and CArr,thats ok,Lets lockup Royal and Fletch too,we need our leader,HTTR
This will be my post on ER too, well at least until he signs somewhere.

Your quote above is not true, not even close, I don't know where you got your info.

Look you like him I don't! I'm not a moron, I wasn't just talking about last year. I would never judge a WR on one year with Tebow! I was telling about his career. I think his rookie season with Cutler and MS is the best we can expect out of him.

If I want 91 catches at almost 11 yards a pop we could divide them up between DY,
Helu, and Cooley (except bigger play threat than ER).

We don't a WR taking up a roster spot, especially if out cost us a much better player in Moss. If he comes at veterans's minimum then I'm OK with it, but he won't. If he is signed to be our PR/KR and emergency fill in at WR and he doesn't cost much, I'm good with that too.

I would rather keep a cheaper guy we already have on our team.

The thing I like about this thread is that, because I live in a timezone thats 12 hours ahead of the US , I can read up on the days developments while eating breakfast. So I can enjoy the events in the sequence that they happened, in a fraction of the time.

keep up the good work chaps

Now that is truly an issue. :-k My hopes would be these.

Garcon emerges.

Four solid #2s with 4.4 speed are better than a #1, an OK #2, and no good #3 - which is better than what most teams have anyway.

4.4 Speed is worthless without separation.

RGIII helps with that. It would be nice to buff the O-line up a bit, though...

Interesting. I wonder what they consider a touch? I figured it was everytime he touched the ball; PR, KR, rush, catch. If that is how they do it, that list isn't accurate. Just take a look at the WR list of y/c. I would love to know what they consider a touch.

No one today. I think that's a good thing based on the value of contracts that came out today. A lot of guys made a TON of money. See John Carlson who's underachieved so far but got paid like an all-star.

I dont know what we are going to do about safety if we don't sign this guy. Gomes and Doughty will be ready to share the load hopefully but we need some speed and playmaking ability back there aka Meriweather
