Will Griffin start the opener?
Now that the deal is done, and Luck will presumably go #1 to the Colts, do you think the rookie will start from day 1, or will he sit behind a veteran for a while?

RGIII is the starting QB here as soon as Mike thinks he's ready - I guess we'd like him to start but I'd rather he gets the time

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
sorry, WRONG! - we did not trade up to get him for this seasonThe Hogster wrote:You don't trade up to #2 for a guy to sit.
we traded up to get our QB for the next 10 plus years
Mike will start him as soon as he shows he's ready to go
I like this kid and would not be surprised to see him on opening day
BUT - we did not get him for opening day

I wouldn't think so, but we might still pursue a FA QB for RGIII to study under. Nevertheless, I voted start him.Irn-Bru wrote:Barring injury, I don't see how it's even possible that any of our current QBs would outplay him in training camp and preseason. If RGIII shows even some promise at the position, he'll start from day one.

You sound ridiculous. This upcoming year is part of the next 10 years. You don't trade that much for a guy to sit behind the losers who made it necessary for you to trade that much for a guy.SkinsJock wrote:sorry, WRONG! - we did not trade up to get him for this seasonThe Hogster wrote:You don't trade up to #2 for a guy to sit.

Did Vick sit? How about Cam Newton?

I voted sit him because that is the way Shanny rolls. Check out how long he sat Hank and Helu even though a lot of coaches would have started them earlier to get the experience. We know Royster was ready earlier, but Shanny signs Rashard Choice. Shanny likes to bring rookies along slowly.
Finally, Shanny sat Cutler. Yes, it was a different scenario with Plummer as the starter, but he started Cutler later on even though the Broncos had a winning record with Plummer. My point, Shanny started Cutler when he felt that Culter was ready. That will be the key. When Shanny feels RGIII is ready. So, it won't be a wait until number 1 falters before RGIII gets the start. I don't think Shanny will see RGIII as ready on Day 1. Of course, it would help to know who our vet QB is going to be at the start of the off season workouts.
About Cam? Cam Newton blew everybody out of the water, but the Panthers also tweaked the O for him. I don't see the Shannies tweaking the O that much for RGIII.
Can RGIII be a starting QB in this league on Day 1? Just as Flacco and Ryan were, I say he can, but just don't think Shanny will let him. See Eli Manning's rookie year. Certainly, you don't pay that much for a QB to sit the bench? Yes, some coaches do, until they feel their QB is ready.

He starts as soon as MS thinks he's ready... That may be game one... the quality of OLine play may well dictate what happens.

I do not want to turn him into a gun shy Patrick Ramsey either. Wait until he is ready. He didn't run a pro offense. We just have to wait and see what he can do.

With his athleticism, he gives us the best chance to win, even while he's learning. He may have a few 12-26 for 225yd games, but he'll probably add another 50-60 on the ground. We can't leave that on the bench and trot out a guy whose going to give the other team the ball 3 times.
We don't have the luxury of sitting him. Just like Kurtis Painter will be holding a clipboard for Andrew Luck. When you're picking that high, it's usually because you suck.
You don't start suck over talent.

Starting him week 1 doesn't mean that he's not the guy for the long term. It just means he gives us the best chance to win of the guys we have on our roster. If it's Rex, Beck, or Crompton, I can't see how anyone would believe that the guys who've lead us to an 11-21 record would give us a better chance to win than RG
I'm sure the Panthers view Cam as their long term solution, but he still started. And, he didn't even have a full offseason. Same for Andy Dalton. QBs, especially highly drafted ones do not sit like they used to.

I think RG3 will start week one, not because he is the second pick in the draft, but because he will be ready. Everybody talks about how great an athelete and this is true, but I think he very poised and mature for his age. Vick is a great athelete, but RG3 brings much more. I hope he becomes one of the greats...

This is like a poll on whether it will rain on opening day. It depends on many factors and it makes no difference at this point. It's about getting him in and starting to groom him for the long term. It will matter on opening day if he starts. It doesn't matter now and it won't matter a year from now.

I sit him but only if the offensive line is a complete wreck. I don't think it's going to be b/c I feel that's Shanny's next top priority over WR. Shanny loves the run game and while our run stat's were decent last year they can improve. If they get their OT & OG either through the draft or FA & they pan out, RG3 will play. You can't shell shock the guy like many other 1st Rd QB's in years past.

It wouldn't be pretty but it may help to let him see the NFL life for a month or so before being thrown in.frankcal20 wrote:I just puked.Smithian wrote:I wouldn't mind Rex or Beck starting for a few weeks, but I want to see RGIII in his rookie year.
Plus, it gives us all something to look forward to.
