Jenkins Recovery Progress

Post by riggofan »

Good blog post on Jenkins. I had been wondering about him, really looking forward to seeing him out there this year. If there was anything good to say about his injury, it has to be that it happened so early. He's had months and months to work on recovery.

http://blog.redskins.com/2012/03/01/jen ... -recovery/
When he suffered his injury in the third preseason game, he “bragged” that it was the cleanest tear the surgeon had ever seen, and he’d be 100 percent healthy before the 2012 season. When teammate Kory Lichtensteiger went down with ACL and MCL tears in Week 6, it was Jenkins that was there to console and motivate the veteran.

And as his condition improved at the end of the 2011 season, Jenkins said that if not for his pesky injured reserve status, he was ready to play.
He said that he’s already back to running on turf, and has been putting in serious time benching and doing squats. He told me his max squat before his injury was 430 pounds, and he’s already back in the range of 375.

Wow, dude was ready to roll at the end of this year?? Looks like he will be bringing the heat next season! I am really excited to see this guy in the middle.

Me too.

There was such a buzz about him last preseason, he imprressed everyone, players and coaches alike.

Then after the injury he was so positive and as you say supportive of other injured teammates he blew people away.

I really hope this all works out for the kid, he has the perfect attitude and a whole heap off talent.

And its like having a new player as he didn't feature last year.

He's well on his way to becoming a leader on D, and he has yet to play a regular season down. This will prove to be a better pick (because of pure value) than the Kerrigan... and, trust me, I'm thrilled with that pick, too.

Agree with this 100%. When the 3 year regrade of last year's draft is done, the skins will have turned out to have CRUSHED it.

If this draft goes down the way I hope it does, then this 2 year period (2011 FA signings, 2011 draft, 2012 draft and 2012 FA signings) for the redskins will be talked about by the faithful with reverence for years to come.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

That's a bold prediction, my friend. I'm giving you full credit if it happens this year!

Jenkins was doing pretty good at all three DL positions... moving him around will drive
OL coaches crazy... one play it's Kerrigan an Jenkins, then it's Orakpo and Jenkins... I CAN'T WAIT
I have a feeling that by the time we get to the midpoint of next year, we are going to realize that the Jenkins loss was the biggest the team had this year. Everyone is gushing over Kerrigan (rightly so), but Jenkins was clearly better earlier and would have dynamically changed the way this defense played. Recall that there seemingly were no defensive snaps in which he was on the field that you didn't hear his name mentioned. That kid will wind up being the steal of our draft this year and Better than Kerrigan, which means those 2 will be dominating together for YEARS!!

Maybe with the return of Jenkins we'll see Orakpo become more effective again.

(Just sayin' . . .)

Welllllll... consider, Jenkins will likely be moved all over the place... which can only help BOTH OLB's... I'm just drooling over the potential of this front 7 IF we re-sign Fletch and Carriker.

Jenkins will seem like a 2012 draft pick, but with a year of learning and two offseasons behind him. I hope the Redskins sign Carriker to a new contract, because with Jenkins in the mix, we have the makings of an elite front 7.

Haslett is going to get to keep whom he thinks will help

I'm not worried about who stays or leaves

this staff (& the FO) has the smarts AND the $$ to keep anyone and everyone that they think helps this franchise this seasopn & beyond

we are so lucky to be seeing such improvement in such a short time frame
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I say put him at nose tackle, put Cofield on the outside 5-technique. Or have a 5-man rotation.

I'm really excited for this kid to take the field. He was showing flashes of briiliance last preseason before the injury. I expect to see him playing with a ton of heart.

I hope we resign Carriker which will help ensure depth in the rotation.
