What should the Redskins do about WR?

Post by Prowl33 »

This is almost as important of a topic as QB, if not equally important since a great QB wont really be able to accomplish much with our current WR options.

Free Agency offers a ton of good options such as Vincent Jackson, DeSean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe, Marques Colston, Steve Johnson, Brandon Lloyd, and more. Plus you have a pretty healthy picking of WR in the upper draft class as well.

What is everyones opinion of what we should do? I personally say going after someone like Dwayne Bowe, and drafting Michael Floyd with either trading down in the 1st round, or our 2nd round pick. Then we have Leonard Hankerson as a potential starter next year, and Moss can play in the slot where he would naturally excel. Between a free agent, draft choice, and Hankerson, odd's are well that we end up with a solid #1 receiver, and possibly a good #2 as well

I definitely think we need to draft a WR and bring in a FA (someone like Bowe). Definitely don't want some thug like Jackson on this team.

Why is DeSean Jackson a thug?

Brandon LLoyd has already been here and was a bust. He did not fit well the way he was used here. i doubt that he would come back. He wants to go wherever his coordinator went.

I have been a big Vincent Jackson fan since he was in college. Still am. I think he's the best option, but I believe he wants to go where he can win--a place with a proven QB.

Bowe would be my next option--but my sneaking suspicion is that he's looking for the money and I'd prefer the character/talent combo that VJack offers.

My thoughts.

I'll answer because I'm sure he cannot. People who have never been around real "thugs" have a tendency to call pro athletes with questionable maturity "thugs."

They can't help it. It's unintentional on their part.

Gotcha. I just thought he was one of these guys unhappy with his contract situation and acting up about it. Wondered if I was missing something.

I think we're going to look at younger WR's. I don't see Jackson being a fit. His game style is very inconsistant. Look at his production. One week shows up, another week he dissapears. Match that with the fact that he is always hurt and also has a little problem with conduct in the NFL. I think if he slips up again, then he's gone for the year.

We have to find a true #1 WR and a guy I would think about bring in is Reggie Wayne. He's older I know but he's a guy who can give you an immediate production while at the same time get a price that won't kill us.

Didn't you know that uppity (yes, I chose that word for a reason) players who dare assert any right/leverage/opportunity, or their perception of the same, are automatically thugs for not just taking what a team gives them?

I think its either absolutely intentional or willful/reckless refusal to think carefully before speaking.
I know he got a pretty good zip on the ball. He has a quick release. . . once I seen a coupla' throws, I was just like 'Yeah, he's that dude.'"

It's not unintentional, it's more like what emoses14 said.... it's absolutely intentional but that's because most of them (like you said) have never been around real "thugs".

I'd probbably try to get Bowe or Jackson. If I couldn't get either I would go for Colston.

I think Plaxico Burress is available as well. I think adding one tall possesion/red-zone reciever makes the rest we have better. So I would take one of the Colston, Bowe, Jackson , Buress quartet.

I still think we draft a guy like Darrel Green's kid. I mean, whos gonna play harder for the B&G than he would? He already has local ties, and dad lives right down the street. Even if he isnt high rated talent, theres no way he comes here and fails. IMO.

I'd be happy with that, Plaxico or Bowe especially.

I would like to have Burress but we really don't need him. I would pretty much only want Colston Bowe or Jackson, because whats the point of getting another #2 or #3? :-s we have plenty of those guys. Moss, Hankerson, Stallworth, Gaffney, (who out performed DeSean Jackson.) Armstrong, We have plenty! If we're getting Buress also get Bowe, Colston, or Jackson To be OUR #1! and then use Plaxico only in the REDzone.

It would really be nice to know who the QB was going to be before having to make this decision.

if its going to be Grossman, I go for the bigger body to compesate for his weak arm (jump balls). Hopefully cut down on turnovers.

If its a rookie, I go for the most consistant, precise route runner, so that the reciever is in the same place at the same time, EVERY TIME. Just to take that out of his head while he's in the pocket.

Pierre Garcon is 25 yrs old and he recorded career best numbers WITHOUT Peyton Manning throwing him the ball.

Eddie Royal is also 25, he was pretty good as a rookie under Shanny in Denver.

I like the Pierre Garcon option if we can't get Bowe or Golston. He is productive and young. If we get a franchise qb this year I think we need a franchise wr as well, someone to be productive in tandem with our new qb most of their careers.

If you're looking to cut down on Grossman turnovers then maybe we should try and get him some contacts...?

It worked for Carlos Rogers...

We may have to. If we are going the FA route for a receiver and drafting the QB, the WR will have to come first.
