Super Bowl Poll.. Who Do You WANT To Win???

Post by langleyparkjoe »

So this is a serious question because within the past week I've spoken to Redskins fans about the SB and here's what they say to me...

1.) I want the Giants to win because they rep the NFC East.
Me- Is this the NCAA? How does them winning help OUR guys?

2.) I hate the Patriots so I'm rootin for the Giants.
Me- You mean to tell me you hate a team that we see once every 3 or 4 years over a team you play twice a year? *roll eyes*

3.) What? What a dumb a** question, Patriots of course.. screw any NFC team not named Redskins.
Me- PRECISELY!

I also hear "I want the Pats because the Giants are in the NFC East."

I find most of that hate stems from the "They've won enough" mentality. I was glad the Giants prevented them from going undefeated. I work with guys from New England and work was a lot easier after that game.

I'd prefer a Pats victory so no one starts saying that Eli is better than his brother.

Of course we all want our squad to win but with these two teams o gotta go bradys revenge. Not jus cus the giants are rivals or cus I hat cry baby Eli... Or because weubeat em twice and that's what ever. But cus they are the most undeserving team probably in the history of the NFL. Worse record then all wild cards and squeaked in. As great as it is they last lost to us. They don't deserve it even tho NE "been to much" if the gnats win they have that trash to talk. I'd rather not go to the SB then gl and get pwned! Fork NY

I accidentally clicked Giants, so that 1 for them, representing 12% is a

LIE.

I meant PATS.

I do not like the pats. I despise belichick, but as others have stated, I will not root for the Giants, ever (of course, that doesn't include their 2 games a year against the cowboys. Then, god help me, I will root for them).

I actually wanted the Giants to win in 2007 to break the Pats perfect run. That was pretty sweet.

This year, lets see the Giants get crushed. (Or maybe edged, so it's at least it has the potential to be a good game.)

NO Redskins fan wants the Giants to win. There. I said it. If you are a Redskins fan, and want the Giants to win... you just don't get it.

I detest the Patriots. In any other year, I'd be praying for an embarrassing Patriots loss. Not when they are playing the Giants.

Hey CT, I just saw this.. Would you believe last night at a bar there were quite a few Redskins fans cheering for the dag gone giants????

Maaaaaaan it go so heated that the owner of the bar actually had to ask people to leave!!! I was sooooooo ticked off bro, I told one guy he's not a true Skins' fan and he wanted to fight me for it! Another guy who was there quickly came to defend me and it was on at that point.

I did eventually shut those guys up by saying this.. "you say you want the NFC East to win because that division represents us right? (guy and his friends said yes). so if the cowboys were playing the pats 2nite den you'd be a cowboy fan.. you do realize that right? and since that's the case, that's makes you a f-in f*****!!!

Needless to say they didn't take that too well but they were overly outnumbered and were eventually forced to leave.

The NFC East doesn't represent the Skins. The Skins represent the NFC East.

On this one, I disagree with CT. Much as I hate the Giants:

- Belichickee ran up the score on the Redskins and Joe Gibbs in 2007. For that, they should lose every time. As painfully as possible.

- The Patriots got a trademark or copyright on "19 - 0" that year

- The Redskins beat the Giants twice this season. No...crushed the Giants. So the team the Skins destroyed beat the unbeatable Death Star of the NFL...

I'm big enough now that I can demand my milk money back (wasn't it 2 cents for white, and 3 for chocolate?)

But... it wasn't Belichick's job to keep the score down... it was Gibbs.
I subscribe to the Sam Huff school of "if the score is there, you take it". I don't blame Belichick... and was not offended by NE's scoring in that game...

... I was offended by our inability to stop them.

I stand by my statement.

1.) If we had a better product on the field than that wouldn't have happened. Heck, they put in their backup QB also and even HE scored against us.

2.) What does that have to do with playing vs one our rivals this year in the SB?

3.) Unbeatable death star.. this year that would've been the Green Bay Packers (unless your talkin bout the undefeated season the Pats had). And big deal, we beat the Giants twice this year and they won the SB.. soooooo.. what?

Does anything you said Welch mean that maybe we should root for a rival????

I don't remember chocolate milk...only the regular white milk. That's why we had those straws with the chocolate flavor-stick inside...made ragular milk taste like chocolate.

And I stand by my hatred of anything connected to the Boston Patriots.

And I feel that every team is a rival.

I can't argue this... but only a very few...primarily 3 in the NFC East... are HATED rivals...

Chocolate was 3 cents... and, the way I figure it... with interest... you owe me around $5. I accept Pay Pal.

I get in the same argument with people all the time. While I don't want to run up the score on other teams, it does not offend me for this reason when other teams do it to us. I can't imagine being a bigger baby then crying that they were mean, we couldn't stop them and they scored anyway. It's just being a poor loser. When that happens, we need to figure out how to play better, not cry how mean the other team was to us.

My daughter takes it a step further, she says it's an insult for them to not run up the score on us because they are saying we suck by doing that. I'm not sure I go that far though.

I've found it hard to utterly hate the Giants, though I did when we were at Bunker Hill, but not since that immortal game about 1966 when a Redskin MLB (former Giant) called time with about 2 seconds to play just so the Redskins (Charlie Gogolak?) could add a FG, putting more than 65 points on the board.

And that game in '72 when George Allen called time with the ball on the Giants 2 and about ten seconds to play and the Redskins leading. Billy Kilmer, who had no "franchise QB" skills but who won most games just because he was fierce, looked over at Allen, raised his hands, shrugged, shook his head, and trotted to the sidelines. For those too young, remember that Billy was Sonny's drinking buddy, and both had the same beer-gut. So there is Kilmer going to Old George, and you can almost hear him say, "What the heck???" Back with a play, Billy hands off to Larry Brown, who bursts into the endzone. Larry had the quickest take-off I've ever seen...he hardly needed blockers, I thought, because in TV real-time, it seemed like Brown was past the line of scrimmage when he took a handoff.

There was, of course, a streak of four or five seasons when Allen's teams never lost to the Giants. During Sonny's last season, Kilmer was hurt early in the 4th quarter. Sonny had a bad ankle, and the Giants were leading by about 15 points. Sonny limped into the huddle, and then completed every pass...even though the Giants knew he was going to throw. Redskins took the lead, and Mike Bass intercepted a last gasp Giants pass.

Oh, and I'd almost forgotten the infamous Jersey Joe Pisarcik handoff to no-where with the Giants beating somebody with about 40 seconds to go. Opponents recovered the fumble, ran it in for the TD, and Giants lost.

It's hard to hate the Giants with the venom I feel for the Eagles, Buddy Ryan, the body bag game. Or the Cowboys...nothing needs to be said about the Cowboys that was not demonstrated in a game when Diron Talbert (pronounced "Die - RONE Tabbert") didn't merely sack Roger Staubach, but turned the Gentleman upside down, and dragged Staubach about ten yards, bouncing Staubach's head every step. (No, young folks, there were not the same "QB protection rules" in the '70s)

... yup... it was OUR Gogolak... the bad one (Pete) played for the hated Giants.

Well... since Brown was not only the most explosive tailback in the league at that time, but also the most devastating blocking back in the league... you might say that he not only had Harraway to block for him... but himself, as well... Larry Brown would not be denied.

What a loss when Bass broke a bone in his neck, ending his career... what a DB...

Oh, and I'd almost forgotten the infamous Jersey Joe Pisarcik handoff to no-where with the Giants beating somebody with about 40 seconds to go. Opponents recovered the fumble, ran it in for the TD, and Giants lost.
That humiliating loss was to the Eagles... it began the age of the Victory Formation... I found it satisfying... but unfortunate, as the even more hated Eagles benefited... Can't have everything, I guess.

That was a beautiful thing. Ultimately, Talbert was so good at getting under Staubach's skin that it led to his only "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty... when Staubach took a cheap shot at Pat Fischer... Talbert literally hated Staubach... and pretty much dedicated himself to making Roger the most miserable man on the field...
