So even thought he has a 5 year contract, Shanny says if he's not successful in 4 years he should be fired. In my view Shanny has to get a big time QB this year. He can't wait until his 4th year to get one.

Hmmm...

I think it all comes down to the definition of success and that is truly objective... For example...

-To the media outlet, this year was an absolute failure. But to those of us who really follow the team, it's not all about the W/L record.

-We've had similiar records in the past but with aging talent. Now we're on of the younger teams in the league.

-We've had losing records in Year #2 and it'd be time for a new regime. This year, we have CONSISTENCY.

-We've had losing records in the past and minimal draft picks to help bolster the squad. Now we're entering drafts with extra picks and the ability to move around within the rounds. We have extra picks so that we can move up if needed. Or we can package them in with deals.

- We've had losing records and splurged in FA on 1 person. Now we're getting 2-3 quality players for the price of one.

Now to me, that's success.

Yup.

 Yup. This is a solid beginning... and will get better pretty quickly, I think.

True - W/L records do not tell all.

When is a 9-7 record better than a 10-6 record? Most would say that they prefer the 10-6 record.

2010 Giants - 10-6 out of the play offs
2011 Giants - 9-7 , swept by the 5-11 Redskins for the first time since 1999, but going into the second round of the play offs peaking at the right moment.

The 2011 9-7 Giant team with a better Eli Manning is better off than the 10-6 team.

Likewise, the 2011 5-11 Redskins are better than the 2010 6 - 10 Redskins. Better defense. A peaking running game at the end of the season. Better offensive production towards the end of the season. Younger players with more draft picks in the coffer. More money under the cap. Things look much brighter after this season than after the 2010 season. No lockout looming.

W/L records don't tell all.

This doesn't excuse the 5-11 record, but there is a plenty lot of room to be optimistic (if you want to) about a winning season next year.

If Dan can't fill the seats, then the Win - Loss really does matter. Even if MS gets younger faster talent on Offense it wont make any difference for him if he keeps having losing season and losing even more games than the previous year.

Dan not being able to fill the seats? If it looks like that he will remove another 10,000 seats this year like he did last year. :)
