I was really excited about today's game, because it paired my favorite team going up against my favorite QB, and, despite the loss, I came away happy with the team's play.
While I braced for the worst and somewhat expected to get blown out like the Raiders did against the Pack, it was great to see Sexy Rexie and the gang go toe-to-toe with the team that may end up in the AFC Championship game, if not the SB.
Wow. W-L record aside, the Skins looked GOOOOD today!

I was at work all day but from what I heard from people coming in and out they played a good game, granted the Patriots defense is not very good but to keep up with their offense is really good and I'm excited about Helu and what he brings to the table

Good Rex showed up today, and he played a very good game. In fact, the Redskins dominated the game statistically, though the Pats secondary is pretty poor.
Overall, I'm very surprised and impressed with the effort, though I'm extremely disappointed with Hall. I've been a big Hall defender, but I've got to say that some of his lack luster performances of late are one thing .... but throwing the flag and costing the team 15 yards is inexcusable, just as it is to see him standing there like a spectator with two teammates struggling to tackle a guy ... that made me angry! All he had to do is go over and give a shove from his angle. No excuse!! He'd be riding the pine next week if I had anything to say about it, and he should be made an example of.
I couldn't help but notice a pretty solid mix of pass/run right around 50/50. Every time the Redskins pass less than 65%, they either win or have a very competitive, close game.

I hope they keep that up.
Yeah Ray, you can be proud of the effort. They tried. Excellent game.

Not sure that guys with that kind of effort in a game need to be on the roster next year. Is that that kind of play we want from our veterans?
I think everyone in the game and everyone watching thought the guy was going to be tackled out of bounds. Its easy to look in hindsight and think he should have piled on. In fact you can pick every play of the game and see someone not piling on each play...fluke play with poor tackling.
Hall throwing the flag is what is unacceptable.
You go until the whistle is blown. THAT is fundamental football. Teams that when Super Bowls do not have their captains turning their backs on a live play.
"Piling on" are your words. No one said, "pile on," but you. Hall should have at least got in position should Gronk have gotten loose to tackle him or have done one of his patented ball strips - and speaking of ball strips? You have the question why this playmaking ball stripper didn't have the DESIRE to go after the ball on this play. YOU play to win the game! In Hall's case, it wasn't even "poor tackling" It was lack of effort. "Fluke" play? - poor tackling does not consitute a "fluke" play. It is what it is - poor tackling and that is not playing to win the game.

Did you miss the sack/fumble/TD he gave up on the second series of the game? Did you miss the decision to throw to a WR at the 10 yard line (who was covered) with less than a minute left in the game when they needed a TOUCHDOWN?
Sorry, that's not "Good Rex". In fact, I don't believe that "Good Rex" actually exists.
I have to say, I can't slam the Skins like I normally do as they played a much better game against the Pats than I ever imagined they would.....they actually hung in there fairly well. Too bad they couldn't have pulled off the upset.....
FINALLY there was a balanced, decent game called by Kyle Shanahan. And Rex actually played the best game I've ever seen him play. Other than the boneheaded decision of holding the ball too long in the end zone, he did a damn fine job. But our whole offense collectively played excellent by keeping pace with the Pats. The INT I can't blame on Rex, but I don't understand why he was even throwing to Moss in the first place...he was 5 yards away from the endzone. But then again, we wouldn't have been pushed back if it weren't for Moss's stupid penalty in the endzone. EVERYONE stepped up on offense today. The defense, not so much. Can we fire DeAngelo Hall NOW?! He wears a big "C" on his jersey for a reason. He's supposed to be a leader, not a four year old immature thug. And why was he just standing there when Gomes and Doughty were struggling to tackle Gronkowski?
Anyone who was not pleased with yesterday's game (with the exception of Hall's play) should go back and rewatch the game sober.

It was 2 down territory. Moss probably would have fallen at about the 4 from where he had his hands on the ball. An incomplete attempt into the end zone and it's 4th and goal from the . . . wherever we were, I think the 9 or 10?

Agreed. Although I'm not so sure Moss's penalty was a stupid one. I didn't get to see a replay (thanks, CBS, for your awesome coverage of the game's pivotal moment!), but Moss was adamant after the game that there was nothing in it.
Obviously the player is going to see things from a more one-sided perspective, but until I can see the foul I'm going to give the Redskin the benefit of the doubt — especially on a penalty that is not called very often and is often highly questionable.

I watched it sober the first time so there's no need for me to go back and watch it again. I watched a defense fail to even attempt to contain the ONE significant weapon the other team's offense possesses. I watched a defense fail to knock down or force out of the pocket a PURE POCKET PASSER.
On the other side of the ball I watched a "Veteran" QB stand in his own end zone like he was having a picnic lunch and GIVE the other team seven points. I watched that same QB throw a pass to the 10 yard line on a play that needed to go into the End Zone. On the previous play I watched a "veteran" WR push off a third-rate DB becase he couldn't get separation on a play where the incompletion would have been more beneficial than the penalty.
I watched a kicker once again boot a ball out of bounds on a kickoff. The field is FIFTY-THREE YARDS WIDE and this dummy can't find somewhere to put the ball other than out of bounds?
I also watched an officiating crew that should have been wearing red, silver, and blue instead of black and white. It isn't an excuse, but that crew owes London Fletcher about $25K for that BS call.
StorminMormon86 wrote:FINALLY there was a balanced, decent game called by Kyle Shanahan.
34 rushing attempts - 33 passing. Doesn't get much more balanced than that. A lot of people were saying last week that the Shanahans needed to put together a game plan that suited the players. I think given the state of the offensive line yesterday and the fact that our QB is Rex Grossman, you have to give the coaches credit for the game plan yesterday. Gotta give the players credit too for not phoning it in.
I was at the game yesterday with my Pats fan father-in-law. Was really expecting a miserable day and instead we had a great time.

Great points all around, very insightful. Its mind blowing that any of the players on the field yesterday made any mistakes or failed in any way. Especially considering the terrible Patriots team they were playing against. It is insane to me that we couldn't stop Tom Brady (who is one of the worst QBs I have ever seen) other than that one INT in the end zone.
I know I watched most of the other NFL games yesterday and pretty much every other team in the league played a flawless game. Redskins you suck.

My point is anger should be directed to the two players that CAN'T TACKLE one guy then a guy that just happen to be standing near them. Thats a fluke play you don't see that too often happening in the NFL, can't blame Hall on that. I'm sure if he wasn't inches near the out of bounds line he would have helped tackle.
Where's the blame on Kerrigan for letting slow Tom Brady slip through his grasp and complete a big play? Or Logan Paulson's false start? Riiiiiight.
So if he would have dived onto the guy guess what probably would have been called in this day and age of football "LATE HIT". Then yall would be complaining that Hall had no reason to hit a guy as he was going out of bounds. Attacks on Hall have been little bit too much lately when you have an entire team that struggles. I think it is PERSONAL.
He made some big plays as well in the game and I remember him coming up and supporting the run a few times pretty good. Now if he could do it again I'm sure he would have helped out. The guy is just frustrated with losing like he should be. I'd rather see someone like that than a player that don't give 2 ish.
Just say you mad we lost the game and continue to be a losing team and you don't like HALL...instead of nitpicking every lil error he makes.
Am I the only one that noticed an illegal swat by a Patriots players after the Grossman fumble that turned into a Patriots touchdown? Thought that was illegal? It was a quick one but he swatted it to another Patriots players after Carter fumbled Grossman. No one challenged it.
riggofan wrote:Great points all around, very insightful. Its mind blowing that any of the players on the field yesterday made any mistakes or failed in any way. Especially considering the terrible Patriots team they were playing against.
Yes, that WAS a terrible Patriots team they played yesterday. That team has ONE offensive weapon of any significance - #87 Gronkowski. The defense didn't even make a significant attempt to stop that weapon. Their defense is pathetic. Almost as bad as the Redskins defense.
riggofan wrote:It is insane to me that we couldn't stop Tom Brady (who is one of the worst QBs I have ever seen) other than that one INT in the end zone.
Seems to me the KC Chiefs stopped him pretty easily a couple years ago in the first game of the year. Unfortunately nobody in DC has the cahones to do what's necessary to win games.
riggofan wrote:I know I watched most of the other NFL games yesterday and pretty much every other team in the league played a flawless game. Redskins you suck.
There's your mistake.... you're comparing the team to the rest of the NFL rather than to the baseline of what they should be. That's part of why I don't watch the other 30 teams that play on any given week.
The Redskins are still a work in progress and will continue to be for a little longer
The Patriots are a good team offensively but this year they are terrible defensively
We are not far off from seeing a competitive product on the field but we still have a lot of issues to resolve
the good news is that we saw glimpses of what we can build around and we saw Kyle call a better game
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

That KC team also had the old Patriots offenseive coordinator if I remember correctly chief.
I'm liking what I saw from the team as a whole yesterday. It wasn't a win, but as someone already pointed out, they went toe to toe with a great team. Barring a pushoff by Santana Moss, we could've tied the game at the end. This team could've easily rolled over and died after the early turnover/touchdown, but they didn't. Love to see they still got some fight in them.
I remain optimistic about this team heading into next season. If we have a draft that can boost the offense like we did the defense this year, we'll be in great shape.
Just glad the Skins didn't get handled like the Raiders did by the Packers (that looked like a college game).
PAPDOG67 wrote:That KC team also had the old Patriots offenseive coordinator if I remember correctly chief.
No PAP, that team crushed Brady's knee on the first offensive series of the game/season and the Patriots were without him for the rest of the season
Oh, right, because condoning dirty is something we want to strive for as Redskins fans. How much do you pay your shrink BTW?? How often do you visit Dr. Melfi?? Just curious.

It's about winning the game. It's about destroying your enemy. They're not playing hopscotch or jacks out there, PAP. Whatever it takes to beat those guys on the other side of the ball.
I don't see a shrink. There's nothing they can do for me.
