I like Barkley a lot. Some people may not agree with me but the gap between him and Luck is small and its shrinking. I don't think Luck is that much better than Barkley like everyone hypes him up to be. Luck and Barkley are the best in this class if Barkley even comes out. After those two it is RG3. I like him over Jones. Everytime I have watched Jones he hasn't impressed me like the other 3.
I'm really hoping Barkley comes out and he somehow is available when we pick. There is no real chance at us getting Luck so I don't even consider him an option at this point.

I'm totally with you on that MD. I feel the same way about Barkley. I think he's real close to Luck in terms of skill. I have not seen too much of RGIII so I can't comment on him, but I have watched Jones and he just seems very robotic to me. Seemed to have no touch on the short ball and took a while to go thru his reads, if he made any reads at all.
"No Luck ... so, now what?"
We may not get Luck but we will have QBs in place that will do a much better jo than what we've had here the past few years
I really am not that worried about who those players are
We are a little behind at this position because of the mistakes we made
this will get resolved and we'll see better play from the QBs

I know a couple Baylor boosters down here and they are adamant that RGIII isn't coming out ..... then again, what do they know. If I were in RGIII's shoes, I would say the same thing to them.
They also say he is a great guy, smart, hard worker, etc. The only concern I have is that in the TTech game, their second string QB came in and lit it up -- putting up better numbers than RGIII. I fear RGIII's production could be more of a result of his offensive support more than RGIII himself.
My daughter goes to Baylor and I've watched nearly all of their games for the past 3 seasons. He's not a product of the talent around him. He elevates the talent around him.
They lost their most NFL ready receiver this year, Flash Gordon. They have some good receivers but they are elevated by his ability to extend a play while they get open and his accuracy. He can throw every pass on the field.

Fair enough. What I meant is that I think he's well considered a top 10 pick, so even if the Skins don't like him, someone before them in the pecking order may...and may pick him. Giving us a better shot at the QB we do want...

Mobile, quick release, quick decisions, can make every throw, and a leader on and off the field, what doesn't fit?

and we see only the top half are first round pick worthy. If Cleveland decides to go QB or if Carroll trades up to get Barkley, where does that leave the Redskins?
What will Shanny do, knowing Landry Jones, Ryan Tannehill, and Kirk Cousins might not be first rounders but they are all upgrades over the Rex & Beck comedy hour we see every week?
What would you do?
Curious why you seem to downgrade Landry Jones so much? Scouts Inc has him rated #5 in the draft, ahead of Barkley at 12, Tannehill at 31, and RG3 not in the top 32. Kiper has him at 6, with Barkley 7, and RG3 at 24. McShay has him at at 7 with Barkley at 6, and RG3 at 30 (and Tannehill at 24).
All 3 of these have Jones as a top 10 pick...am I missing something?
Out of all the prospects Jones is the most disappointing. He has National Championship talent on his team. Yet he failed to lead his team to a National Championship. Just saying. Why should I pick him over a player like RG3 who has overachieved?

Jones looked just awful last night. Awful. Then again, the entire team looked awful. That was not a Championship defense they fielded last night...

I keep having this panic attack about Shannahan NOT drafting a QB next year. THEN what?

Their offense started to go downhill when they lost their best WR in November. None of their other receivers, including Stills, are worth a damn. The last 3 games of the season that entire team well apart, offense and in particular on defense. Pretty ridiculous to blame all of that on Jones. The guy still threw for over 4000 yards this season and 28 touchdowns.

Then we create an offensive line that even a septagenarian Sonny Jurgenson could play quarterback behind... and un-retire #9

Mike and Bruce have to find 2 QBs - neither Grossman or Beck can be considered even as back-up QBs

If his guy is available, then Shanny will get his guy. If his guy is not there, he will trade down and load up on draft pick. BUT, with the way Grossman and Beck played this year, he has to draft a QB in the early rounds, 2 or 3, or pull some kind of deal like get a one year Brady schooled Mallett over here - Shanny and Belichek have got to be friends - Afterall, he took Haynesworth off his hands. I could see a deal like that if the price is right for both sides.

A name that was thrown out today on Sirius NFL Radio was Matt Flynn who will be a free agent at the end of the season. Doesn't have a lot of NFL playing experience but could allow you to bring in a vet (he'll be the hottest FA QB fyi) to play and groom a young later round QB as a backup. Then you could invest your first round pick on a player like OT, WR, etc. If Flynn is interested, I would do it b/c you're going to have to pay him similar to what you would a 1st Rd QB and you get a lineman or other player on top of that. Let me know your thoughts.

That's a bad idea for several reasons. First of all, Flynn sucked in college and has attempted 86 career passes. He is an unknown and this would essentially be the Beck scenario all over again. Secondly, we need a legit qb prospect, not a late round unknown. Shanahan can't miss with this qb selection, or he's going to pay for it with his job, and the longer he waits to get his qb the less the likelihood of success (generally speaking). We need an NFL-ready qb in the first or second round of the draft, not a late round experiment.

i guess I did a poor job of explaining when I would draft a QB. If I'm Shanahan, I'm looking 2nd-4th round tops. As for Flynn, it was Rich Gannon who does all of GBs preseason games and training camp stuff. Another guy they like who hasn't played much is the backup in NE, Hoyer I believe.
Don't be shocked if NE gets up big vs us this week that we don't see this guy. I would think that Belichek would want to give the the Skins a preview if he fee's that Mallett is worth the #2.
Either way, it's going to be fun. After this draft, I think the coach/GM will be making the best decisions for the team. Just hope I'm not scratching my head saying WT()....

Mike & Bruce should bring in a FA QB, we need one
THEN - they need to draft an NFL ready QB with our 1st or 2nd pick, we need to get him ready to play
The QB position MUST get resolved or the Shanaplan is out of here at the end of next season

I agree with Skins Jock. No to Grossman and Beck. Sign a QB like David Garrard, and then draft RGIII. Two players who are basically the same type of QB. Obviously, RGIII is the better athlete but he can learn from Garrard, and the OC has two quarterbacks with one game plan, instead of having two QB's with two game plans.
Sounds good to me, but I'm sure some of you will enlighten me about how bad this idea is.

The problem I have with this is that there is a big difference in the type of qb you can get in the 1st/2nd round than in the 3rd/4th round. In the first two rounds you're looking at guys like Luck, Barkley, and Jones, who are NFL-ready, as compared to guys like Ryan Tannehill, who only played qb for a year in a half in college (former wide receiver). Given our qb situation I don't think that taking on a development project is a good idea.
