Hankerson headed to IR

Post by gregory smith »

Just heard Hankerson was headed to IR. That's really ashamed, he really needed the remainder of the year to convince us he is the guy. Too bad.

I don't know that in my 30+ years of watching the Skins that I've ever seen a streak of injuries like this.

I hope Hank can rehab quickly and be ready to pick up where he left off. Lord knows we could use the help at receiver...

This is almost comical.

On one hand it is pathetic that after having his first good pro game, he is put on IR.

On the other hand, it is depressing since it appears we have drafted yet another injury prone WR.

1 injury and now he's injury prone? Sad news for sure but i'm not gonna write the book on him just yet and use this a sign of things to come. Wishing for a full recovery, he definitely showed promise.

I believe it's officially Redskinitis Lockoutis of the Hip Labrium. Recovery is four months or the April Draft.

Torn labrum... he will undoubtedly be back next year... but this type of injury is likely to shorten his career, as the risk of arthritis of the injured hip goes up exponentially...

We still got more out of him than we ever got out of MKelly. Hank will be back and performing well.

ACL's are worse. Trust me. I've had 5 on my lft knee. With every injury, you will get arthritis but that can be managed w/ a nice little shot.

True. Injuries have simply exposed what we already knew.

As bad as this injury hurts, I wish we still had an OL.

Exactly. The Packers won the Super Bowl with a ton of players on the IR/ injured. The issue is depth.

It's apparent that the Skins have absolutely NO DEPTH whatsoever on offense. This team is in shambles. Who else do we have left at WR? Is David Anderson becoming our #2 WR now?

Hankerson WAS OUR DEPTH! So we don't have depth for our depth?? That's asking a lot. Fred Davis is depth for Cooley. Torrain and Helu are depth for Tim.

That is depth and quality depth. Now, we don't have much quality depth at o-line but that's a work in progress. Sadly that lack of depth makes the other components look worse.

This is actually not true. Check out the list on this page. (And note it doesn't yet include Golston)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cu ... am_rosters

There are only a couple of teams that have an IR as long as we do, and if you look at their lists, most don't include very many recognizable players. I think only Buffalo and the Rams come close to our list of injured reserve, maybe the Giants because they lost 4 key defenders.

I do agree, however, that depth is our biggest issue. It took Shanny/Allen a full year to get decent starters, I think it will take another year to build decent depth. And then god knows how long to get a decent quarterback...

Hankerson had a good game against the Dolphins. Unfortunately we still don't know what we've got in him thanks to this injury. And Torain and Helu have not proven themselves to be quality depth this year thus far.

Torain is quality depth when he has blocking and with Helu I have no idea what you're talking about. He's been outstanding for his rookie year. Hankerson definitely showed something. This is just looking at the glass being a quarter empty instead of three quarters full.

What I meant to say about Helu is that the O-Line is so putrid, we cannot evaluate what we've got in him. He did look excellent against the 49ers, but I have to question why Shanahan started Torain over him? You can look at the glass three quarters full if you want. If we went 9-7 or 10-6 this season I would say that's 3/4 full. We are currently sitting at 3-6 and may very well not win another game this year. I'd say that glass is almost empty. And I do not advocate the firing of Shanahan or his son, and I do have patience to rebuild this team. But speaking from a seasonal viewpoint, this is nothing to be optimistic about until we see results.

I was referring to it being 3/4 full with those three players and you switched to the team's overall record. I mean duh, it's obvious that was what I was referring to.

As far as Hankerson being injury prone -- we'll see. He's out for the season after playing only his 3rd game. Who knows, he may recover and never miss another down, but we haven't had that type of luck in the past. Outside of the occasional hamstring injury, 22 yr old WRs tend to not get hurt too often -- unless they are more injury inclined. This is just my pessimistic view after seeing the WR show some promise.

As far as depth, I don't think many can argue that this team has it. Depth comes from having a good GM and FO who can identify talent and keep them on the roster -- something this team has been seriously lacking since the 1980s.

It will take a good deal of time for a team to create depth -- for the skins, this could take 3 or more years (assuming excellent drafting). This franchise has been trading away their future for over a decade. The lack of depth is a DIRECT result of this team trading their picks.

Since 2000, the skins have had a total of 29 draft picks in rounds 1-4 (they should have had nearly 50 sans trades). From 2005-2010, they only had a total of 13 between rounds 1-4 (they should have had 24). Out of those 13, only 6 are currently on the roster. Rounds 1-4 are crucial in building a franchise -- yet our idiot owner has consistently disregarded this generally accepted football principle for over a decade.

Between 2010-2005 the skins had a total of 39 draft picks -- of which 33% were selected in rounds 1-4. Comparatively:
- GB: 58 picks; 50% selected in rounds 1-4.
- Pitt - 51 picks; 49% selected in rounds 1-4.
- NE - 57 picks; 51% selected in rounds 1-4.
- BAL - 47 picks; 60% selected in rounds 1-4.
- SF: 50 picks; 50% selected in rounds 1-4.

This is how you create depth. It doesn't come via free agency or trades. It will take time and I hope this time they do it right.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.
