with hightower blowing out his knee, it looks like we'll be getting a look at evan royster. at times this guy was exciting in his preseason appearances and i hope it translates to the regular season.

i see torain pulling the load(at least for the buffalo game), barring injury or unproductivity.

i like helu as the change of pace and royster as the 3rd down guy.

getting a look at the young talent keeps the skins mind sane...

I think that one of the reasons Royster was sent to the PS is that he was having difficulty with blitz protection and blocking schemes. I doubt that he becomes the default 3rd down back for that reason... Helu is better suited anyway.

I think Royster will get some time, but it won't be a regular feature for a while... if at all...

Excited to see Royster hopefully this weekend. We have another opportunity as the Bills are giving up the 3rd most rushing yds per game. (135)

Now the running game is going to hand on the hinges of the offensive line getting a good push up front to open holes for these guys.

Hope they are successful b/c we need to keep Buffalo off the field b/c their offense is/has been on fire.

I'd actually like to see Helu get a chance to be the feature back, he has great hands and excellent vision plus more speed than any other back on our team now. Let Torain spell him and use Royster sparingly, that would be my vote.

While speed is nice at the position, the #1 thing a RB must have is vision. You have to be able to spot where the hole will be. Be patient and wait for the play to develop. Doesn't do any good to get to the hole before it ever opens. Your Oline is going to be pissed if you're firing to the hole and they haven't had a chance for the play to develop and you're blasting them in the back.

Emmitt Smith was a good example of someone who was very patient, waited for the play to develop and then would burst through the hole when the time was right. Most guys don't come in the league and know this. It happens over time as they get used to the offense.

I'd say the vision Helu has displayed during his times in the games has been very good. I think giving him a heavier workload would allow him to find his timing in the running game with the o-line and once he's in the open field he's dangerous. Again, just my opinion. I like Royster, just not as much as I like Helu and I'd rather Helu get the extra carries.

I have to agree. If there is a hole, Helu typically sees it... and he hits it hard. He also knows what to do once through... I love that he is always moving forward, and has the instinct to know how to finish.

Royster is not going to play yet....he's still on practice squad.

The Redskins did not promote sixth-round rookie RB Evan Royster from the practice squad to fill the roster spot vacated by injured starter Tim Hightower. Instead, they signed interior OL Jonathan Compas and TE Dominique Byrd to the 53-man roster.

“It’s not frustrating," Royster said. “I’m just going about it like I go about every week. Every week I’ve been ready to play. That’s not saying I’m going to, but I’m still ready to. That’s kind of what being in this position kind of holds for you.”

There’s still a chance Royster could be promoted for Sunday’s game, so I'll wait to say this doesn't reflect well on how much coaches think he has progressed since the preseason. The Redskins would have to make a corresponding roster move to promote him. Shanahan said FBs Darrel Young and Mike Sellers are the emergency third and fourth tailbacks, respectively.

I agree with you. Helu can be a game changer if given the chance. He has good vision and is tough as nails. With his pass catching he can be dangerous on any down, not just 3rd.

While I would LOVE to see Royster out there, the OL pick up was the right choice. Torain and Helu can carry the load -- we don't need 3 RBs out there.

Looks like they just lost Sellers to a back injury (he's hospitalized overnight)... this could open a spot for Royster...
