I say two more years. We (still) need to invest heavily in the offensive line (our biggest factor in our offensive woes for many seasons). Then we need a QB of the future.
I'll still stick with Beck for now. He's certainly better matched for this offense and will continue to grow this season with more reps. Rex is done here. I'll be happy if we can find a young QB in the draft over the next two years, bring him in behind Beck to learn the offense before taking the reigns.
Sadly now injuries are starting to pile up on us and our lack of depth is starting to show. The defense needs to settle down and get back to sound fundamentals... like tackling.

I know. I keep hearing how deep we are at receiver, but I don't think a bunch of mediocre receivers makes us "deep."
Though I do like Gaffney as an addition, even though I wanted to strangle him a couple times. And Fred Davis is starting to show more consistency. Then again

I agree with this, although I would argue that

As for Fred Davis, I wish that Shanahan or another coach had laid into him on the sideline after that idiotic celebration of his when we scored late in the game. A garbage time TD and Davis is celebrating. He's got a ton a talent but needs to mature.

People . . . we are an 8-8 team this year. We will probably have to fight to make it to 8-8. This was predicted many times over by Skins fans much more knowledgeable than me during the offseason.
The Shanaplan is in motion. If we are 6-10 again this year, then I'll admit we have a serious problem. For now, though, these mini ups and downs are just going to be part of the journey.
8-8? 6-10? This team will be lucky to make it to 4-12.
So you're saying that if the team goes 5-11 or better, you'll come back here eating crow?
More likely he'll come back with a plastic lightening bolt... or a really bad ass Airsoft.

I'll be happy to come back and say I was wrong. It won't change my belief that the entire coaching staff needs to be fired along with the GM and about 45-50 of the players on the team CUT; but I'll come back and admit I was wrong about their final record.

It's easy for non-participants in life to sit and criticize the way other people who do participate in life do it, isn't it Jeremy? By non-participant I'm referring to your post that you don't compete because you can't meet your own standard.

Yep, and there are going to be ups and downs along the way

Probably. Of course it's also easy for those of us who have been competitor and have failed in those endeavours to see the mistakes that other people are making as well.

I don't engage in competitive endeavours because my track record over roughly the first 35 years of my life was one of failure at pretty much every competitive thing I did. Considering my temper, and growing up with two younger brothers who were GREAT at ever competitive thing they touched, it had created a situation where I finally decided it was no longer worth involving myself in these activities. I would suggest that's a matter of simple common sense and nothing more, thank you very much.

Nah. I mean the temper that generally ends up with holes in walls and doors, a boot lodged in a television screen, and Redskins-themed gear with multiple bullet holes in it. I'll give you a good example.... About 3 years ago I was shooting a pistol match with about 50 people in Springfield, MA. I had a magazine malfunction that caused me to screw up a course of fire pretty badly. At the end of the shooting, I picked up the mag and proceeded to toss an $85 piece of equipment (which I could not easily replace) against a concrete block wall sufficiently hard to cause it to burst into pieces.

Not to nit pick the Poll, but we are COMPETIIVE now. How long will it take for us to become a Superbowl contender? I'm going to say 2 more years based on the assumption that we draft a franchise QB next year and that QB sits behind a successful John Beck that leads us to the playoffs one of those years. In Year 3, that QB takes over and we are a legitimate contender.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Do you think final records bear any correlation to a team's fitness for competition in the NFL?

this has been a disaster for 10 plus years just sayinPulpExposure wrote:Chris Luva Luva wrote:2 years. I know we're losing right now but it's not as bad as U make it seem. It's fine to be emotional during a beatdown but you're exaggerating at some positions. #shrug
Yep.Redskins_Fanatic wrote:There is NOTHING worth keeping on that team right now.
And here we go with the over-reactions. Nothing work keeping? What about Orakpo and Kerrigan? Good lord. (Btw...nice edit).
Did anyone actually expect this team to be any good this year with the Walking Turnover or John Beck at QB? If so, did you remember to take your medications before thinking that?
This team was a disaster under Zorn. Disasters take time to fix.
TOUCHDOWN .....WASHINGTON REDSKINS !!!!

We are going to have to draft a qb in this draft and you're probably looking at another mediocre year next year with the rookie sitting most of the season, an up-and-down year his first year as starter, and hopefully we didn't botch the pick/development and he is ready for a good season his third year. Expecting anything less than that just isn't realistic considering our qb situation.
Just a rumor but I heard people saying that if the Rams keep losing they might be in the Luck sweepstakes. Then they have to deal Sam Bradford to someone and the Shanahan's liked him very much.
I say 4 years. We had to fix the defense or live with the worst defense again this year. Couldn't fix everything.

You know I had the same exact thought. I think the
Rams would bed a fool to draft Luck a ditch Bradford, but they are the Rams. Why would you give up a sure fire proven franchise QB, for a player that might be a franchise QB.
Makes no sense, but I could see the Rams doing it.
I would be totally fine with Shanny trading for Bradford, in fact I would jump for joy!

YES. In fact they are one of only two factors that are fully necessary do so.
#1. WINS. (as a measurement of SUCCESS)
#2. Average Margin of Victory (as a measurement of GREATNESS)
There are other factors that do contribute, including:
Turnover Ratio
Red Zone Efficiency (Touchdowns/Red Zone Opportunities, NOT Touchdowns & Field Goals/Red Zone Opportunities)
Sacks (on both sides of the ball)
125/300 (Games where a team has 125+ yards rushing and 300+ yards passing - versus games where a team has given up the same)
However, these things are secondary to WINS and AVERAGE MARGIN OF VICTORY.

So let's pretend the Redskins go 5-11 or better.
When you say you will be willing only to say that you were wrong about their record, what you must actually mean is that you will eat crow and admit you were wrong about how successful this team really is, since W-L is the most important indicator of team success.
I can live with that. See you at 5 wins.

You are aware that had you performed your malfunction drill correctly you get an alibi right? Or does your comps not do that? Also, why are you paying $85 for a mag that breaks when you throw it? I have 20 dollar mag inserts that allow me to drop them on concrete and they work fine. Anyways, just something I noticed...
Support the troops, especially our snipers.

HaiL,
Ok - are we better than we were since these guys took over after 2009?
that is all the time they've had

go follow someone else if you can't see that this franchise is VASTLY improved since the first few months of Zorn's second year

we are very close to challenging for the best in the NFC East - we have the best HC, for sure
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Seems like we have been rebuilding for forever now almost two decades.
I say it still rests in Dan snyder hands to be patient and stick with a game plan. Give the current regime plenty of time to try and get it going.
Why??? To attract further top elite coaching down the road another Jim Zorn would be heart breaking. Who says Shanny will keep going after his 5 year contract is up and it would look good on Snyder to give him that 5 years to rebuild.
I still give props to Mr.Allen for being aggressive in the draft that's how you rebuild.
I suspect the offense will be looked at heavily this off season much the way the defense was this past off season.
I would love to see us grab some top notch O-lineman and Q.B.
Can it be done in one off season.. can Allen work some more magic in the draft.
