John Beck Is The New Rich Gannon.
Yeah, I said it. I'll go on record and say that the 30 year old John Beck will excel in this offense and surprise many people by becoming a Pro Bowl Caliber QB in the NFC.
I predict that Beck will remain the starter for the rest of the year. He will throw for 2,750-3,000 yards and rush for another 200 or so. His TD to INT ratio will be 2:1 and he will consistently rate north of 90.
He will complete somewhere around 60% of his passes, and lead the Washington Redskins to an NFC East title and a home playoff game.

Meaning we'll trade him away and he'll be a pro bowl qb for the Raiders? Seems like they're sort of set with Carson Palmer and Jason Campbell...

I am neither here nor there on Beck. Haven't seen him play in a live environment. I can say this based on how the Shanns have handled the personel on this roster, Beck would not be here if he could not get the job done.
I just hope
his confidence is where it needs to be to leasd this team.

I agree that Beck would NOT be the starter if he couldn't get the job done. The Shanahan's wouldn't have traded for him. I know we didn't give anything special away for him, but we did have Colt Brennan on the roster when we got Beck. I really hope he succeeds.

Meaning he'll go from 30+ year old journeyman to a successful starter late in his career.

I only wish we had gone with him from the start. I didn't see anything in the preseason that hands down separated Rex from Beck. Since Rex (i) has more NFL experience in general, and (ii) has more experience in THIS offense, the fact that they played roughly even in the preseason suggested to me that Beck had the higher upside.
Good thing we are 3-2 despite Rex. I think Beck goes in there and takes hold of this job and doesn't look back.

Sometimes people "predict" things they want to be true, more than that because they actually believe it will happen.
I am confident in saying that based on Beck's statistical history, this prediction cannot be supported in any way.......except through sheer hope. Yeah, I would love for this to happen -- especially because it would solve our QB issues.
But, would you bet your mortgage on the fact that this "prediction" will come true? I think we all know where the smart money is on this.
RIP Sean Taylor. You will be missed.

You can't base his success now on his "stats" in 4 games a rookie on an 0-9 Dolphins team. I'm basing my prediction on what I have seen of Beck for the Redskins. No, I would not bet my mortgage on it. But, I will start a thread anonymously on the Internets and run the risk of embarrassing my avatar at a later date.

Would I bet my mortgage? No, but then, I don't have an extra mortgage payment to lose. I also feel Beck is going to open a bunch of eyes this season. I've had a gut feeling since the first preseason game that this team is going to do something special this year, and that Beck was going to become our QB for the next several years. That's why I was somewhat baffled when we went with Grossman to open the season; my gut usually knows what it's talking about (probably because I keep it fat and happy).

It's bad enough when people focus on any Skin who does well somewhere else for the we're stupid and we suck mantra, but to do it with Campbell who actually does suck? Please, you need better schtick...

Totally agree. I was very disappointed we were starting Grossman. I had a hard time believing he wasn't going to be the same as he always was. I really hoped the coaches had seen that something really had clicked. I'm disappointed that it didn't. But it is what it is.

I need a new schtick? You need a new sense of humor!
mrcatwalker wrote:Beck is a fan favorite that is the only reason why he is starting. If it's true that the fans chanted for him..... Then your coach was trying to keep the fans happy to keep tickets selling.
Wrong. If you know anything about Shanahan, you know that's simply not the case. The fans were chanting for Beck because he impressed during the preseason, and Grossman has sucked since the second game, and after throwing his fourth pick against a beatable Smeagols team, they had just had enough already.

sorry mate - Kaz has no sense of humor, zero, zilch

what you 'see' is about as funny as it gets

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
right on dead man - Beck is starting because Grossman showed he could not stop turning the ball over
Beck WILL lose the job if he does that too
Shanahan does not do anything AT ALL unless he KNOWS it is the best thing to do

John Beck is NOT going to be as good a QB as Gannon
HOPEFULLY - Beck can hold down the job as QB here until the future great Redskins QB is ready to play
Beck is not taking the Redskins to the Super Bowl
- Mike would have had him in there already if he'd seen those sort of qualities during practice

Never say never my friend. But in all honesty, I don't think Shanahan thrust Beck into the starting role because of pressure from the fans. If that was the case Grossman never would have been the starter in the first place. Since Shanahan has openly admitted to "lying" in press conferences, who knows why he didn't start Beck at the beginning of the season. My guess is that Beck had less practice than Grossman, less experience in this "offensive scheme" of Kyle's, and they figured that the more experienced Grossman gave them a better shot at beating the Giants for some reason. The fact that they did play well against the Giants warranted Grossman another start, but after that I don't see how or why they continued to play him.
