World Series

Am I the only person that thinks that was a foul ball hit my Berkman?

Cost the Rangers 2 runs.

The team that was stolen by Bob Short should lose in 4 games.

Long live the curly W.

(who here saw "Berkman" and read "Brinkman"... who even GETS this?)

It seems that the "Texas Rangers" might not win a World Series until after the New New Senators ("curly-W 2") have won several. Seem to be blighted by nemesis, the baseball god.

The Senators' Final Game
By Shirley Povich
Washington Post Columnist
Oct. 1, 1971

Everybody in Kennedy Stadium stood up at 7:30 p.m. because the voice on the loudspeaker said, "We ask you to join Robert Merrill in singing the National Anthem." The voice did not bother to explain that Merrill was on wax, and that Robert, baby, was not deserting the Metropolitan Opera stage for this occasion. It was merely one more of management's deceptions Senators' fans had long been taught to live with.

To those among the crowd who had come in sorrow, the Star Spangled Banner never before sounded so much like a dirge. Francis Scott Key, if he had taken another peek by the dawn's early light, would have seen that the flag ain't still there, and lyricized accordingly. It was captured and in transit to Arlington, Tex., which, to embittered Washington fans, is some jerk town with the single boast it is equidistant from Dallas and Fort Worth.

rest of the great column by the great Povich at:

I like the insight: a "jerk town with the single boast it is equidistant from Dallas and Fort Worth."

[If only the current Nats' SS or 2B could hit as well as Eddie Brinkman! Let's note, then pass on: Desmond struck out 135 times this season; Espinosa struck out a monumental 165 times.]

I was rooting for Texas. I like Josh Hamilton and the manager, Ron Washington. I'm also a fan of how Nolan Ryan runs the organization. It was a great series though. After that game 6 you just had to see it was meant to be for the Cards. One of the best series in a while.

My God... Eddie Brinkman was a career .224 hitter... the thought of him being a superior hitter to the Nats 4 and 6 is just scary...

OTOH... I don't know that there has ever been a superior SS... His consecutive errorless game streak was broken by Cal Ripkin... who got some VERY favorable calls by the Orioles scorkeeper...
