I will also agree - no matter who the QB is - Kyle's play calling has to be better suited to the players

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I hope that Kyle does NOT continue to call plays that he hopes will work
Kyle needs to call plays that have a good chance at working with the players he has on the field at the time
I swear - Kyle calls plays, like he's playing Madden or something else that has ABSOLUTELY, NO CHANCE of 'working'

I seriously don't understand why everyone is pounding Kyle for his play calling. Our running game sucks for the same reason most running games suck!
Our OL sucks. They have to have ending go perfect on a play to open a lane. They are not capable of just lining up and imposing their will on a Defense.
Sure they had a great game against the Rams, but even in that game, once the Rams decided to shut down the run at all cost, they did.
The Egirls committed to stopping the run from the beginning, daring Rex to beat them and he simply wasn't able to do it. Up until the last two minutes of the first half the Skins were running the ball about 50% of the plays.
Now if the Skins had the lead like they did against the Gints they might have continued to beat their heads against a wall that wasn't moving, but since they were behind and the D only forced the Egirls to punt like once in the first half.
Until our OL is improved enough to where they can line up and run against 8 man fronts our they don't have to hope they block a play perfectly our running game will continue to suck. And until we get a reliable running game, Kyle will be forced to use his smoke and mirrors play calling.
You can't blame Kyle's play calling for our QB's missing wide open receivers. If the QB misses a guy that is open for a TD, is that Kyle's fault. If our OL can't open holes against 8 man fronts, is that Kyle's fault?
Let's face it, our OL is average at best, our WRs are average, our RBs (like all RBs) are only as good as our OL, and we have PB TE that hasn't been healthy all season, another very good TE that won't go up and get a contested ball, and our QB has been Rex Grossman.
Capable QB play would help to eliminate those eight man fronts, which will in turn help our run game, which will in turn help the perception of Kyle's play calling.

Agree with this 100%. I would also add that many of our fans tend to overrate our running backs considerably. Hightower is averaging 3.5 yards per carry and doesn't look like he can handle the type of workload that he was getting at the beginning of the year. Torain has shown no ability to stay healthy and Helu is only a rookie.

I have hope for Helu, since he's a rookie so he can only learn and develop from here. And from what we've seen so far he looks pretty darn good. Torrain needs an effective OL to be explosive, unfortunately ours is banged up. And Hightower can only run to the left side, he cannot and I've yet to see him gain considerable yards when running on the right or up the middle. And the 3.5 YPC is kind of scary for a starting running back.

The biggest issue with our run game is that we have a high percentage of runs to the left. This week, we should expect that to flip to runs to the right given the injuries, etc. Now, should Brown move from RT to LT (which I don't agree with) I think we'll see them try to run to either side depending on who's getting a better push up front.
Carolina has the worst run defense in the league so if I'm Shanny, I would start Hightower, Helu spell and then put Torrain in there to close it out should we have a lead. If we're forced to throw the ball, you have to keep Helu on the field because he is a viable checkdown option who has really good hands.

i find myself wanting to argue, though, with the statement about our O-Line sucking... but then i realize i (and many of us) may be mistakenly thinking our O-Line is decent simply because it is so much better than it was a couple years ago. but it may have only improved from "nonexistent" to "bleh".

Oh, I agree that our OL has improved, especially on pass pro, but ours still has the smell of boiled eggs when it come to run blocking. If you play them straight up, they can open some holes and will win a decent amount of times. But if you stack eight in the box, surprise them in any way, or play disciplined gap control defense the running game is destined for a sub 3 yards per carry day.
Look across our line, other than T Williams how many players would start on any other OL? How many would start for the OL considered in the top half?
Heck we might have a starter or two that wouldn't even make some of the teams roster.

The zone scheme is predicated on tiring out the oppossing defense. Eventually, the athletic linemen stretch the defense out and big runs are broken through open lanes or backside cuts. You cant tire the defense without some run consitency. I think thats why people bash Kyle. He tends to abandon the run even when the game is still in reach.
SPIT HAPPENS!!

Kyle is reacting and not sticking to what his limited offense is capable of
we have seen some improvement along our O line but the offense lacks a really good QB and good depth along the line - our receivers and our RBs are a work in progress
when we get behind, we can't suddenly try to call plays that give us a chance to 'win' games - Kyle needs to realize we don't have the offense to do that - we're getting there
Kyle needs to do the best with what he has and ONLY call plays that his players have a decent chance at doing well
having Rex put the ball in the air to try and make 'big' plays is a recipe for BIG time failure - Grossman's interceptions are not all his fault
we are an 8-8 or 9-7 team - we are not going to suddenly become an offense that can score a bunch of points

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Kyle needs to ONLY use plays that his players AND John Beck have a really good chance of executing
The Redskins run/pass plays are NOT balanced and certainly are not more run oriented which we need to be this year
when we get behind, Kyle needs to stick with the game plan otherwise he'll end up putting the team even further behind

It's hard not to react when you're down 20-3 or 20-6. I would understand some of these arguments if we had a decent running game, but we don't. We have 3 backup running backs on our roster. Maybe Helu will eventually develop into a starting-caliber back but he isn't there yet. Somebody here mentioned that most of our OLine wouldn't start for many other teams (I agree), and the same can be said for our backs.
The bottom line is that the play makers on this offense are at the WR (Moss) and TE (Davis) positions. I don't care if we run or pass, I want Kyle to find the best way to get the ball into the hands of our play makers as often as possible.
