Trotter: 'I should have never left...'

Post by Jake »

Well you smelled the cash Snyder was flashin' at ya and you left... face it. If only I had the chance to ask him what crow tasted like...

'I SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT...'

July 15, 2004
By CHRIS McPHERSON

Trotter realized that he was wrong to leave Philadelphia.

The Eagles showed Thursday that the door to return home is always open.

After two years away from the nest, two-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Trotter signed a one-year contract and admitted he should have never left Philadelphia in the first place.

"I should have never left in the first place," Trotter said in an early evening press conference. "I really bleed green and I still do."

Realizing that he made a mistake leaving the Eagles following the 2001 season, the 27-year-old Trotter became humbled while in Washington, where he played with the Redskins for two seasons.

"I have grown from it and have learned my lesson," Trotter said.

Trotter suffered a knee injury two years ago that prematurely ended his 2002 season. Trotter said that he is "100 percent" recovered from the injury and is still as good as his Pro Bowl season in 2001.

"I believe I still am the same player," he said. "I'm just ready to get with the guys, joking with the guys in the locker room. I went through two years where I didn't enjoy the game."

Last season, he led the Redskins with 129 tackles, but did so playing for a non-playoff team.

"Any time you're losing, everything gets magnified. I went in (to Washington) with my expectations so high and they didn't have anything I expected," Trotter said. "The money was there, but I didn't enjoy the game."

While many never imagined Trotter returning to the Eagles, head coach Andy Reid simply said that adding Trotter will make the Eagles better.

"We've always said we keep our eyes open for good football players to add to this team, and the signing of Jeremiah certainly does upgrade our team. He's been a very productive player in the National Football League," Reid said.

Reid reiterated that Trotter will not replace current starting linebacker Mark Simoneau.

"We feel very good about our starting middle linebacker Mark Simoneau and the rest of the linebackers on this team and the addition of Jeremiah makes that group that much better," Reid added.

Trotter was originally drafted by the Eagles in the third round in 1998. Trotter started in three of his four years in Philadelphia and went to the Pro Bowl after the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Yeah... whatever Trotter... have fun trying to tackle Portis next year, if you even get on the field that is.

That's okay. I rarely "enjoyed the game" myself when Jeremiah was playing.

Since he bleeds green, maybe that's why his play was so poor over the last two years.

I still hate this move. Retard is going to end a teammate's season by doing something stupid, I just know it.

It is a familiar theme though, that a lot of the team, those still here and those who have departed, that it was not a good team chemistry in Washington during the last couple of years and that some are happy to be out.

I am glad St. Joe is back!
I am in a state of ecstasy! Never mind that nonsense about euphoria and so on. It is sheer, unadulterated, uncompromising ecstasy!

That's a good point hoglover, with Gibbs at the helm, hopefully we can correct that. All it takes is just one winning season...

I find it both hilarious and sickening that the Eagles homers talked nothing but trash against Jeremiah Trotter and insulted him every way possible since he left Philadelphia.

Right after I saw the ticker on ESPN News, I checked out the Eagles' message board. No surprises there: everyone loves him again! They're talking about how he's the "missing piece," about how they're so happy to have him back again, even going so far as to start, now, insulting the heck out of Mark Simoneau. There were even genuine suggestions that Nate Wayne give up his number -- the number he's had for his entire football career -- to Trotter.

What a joke. Every new player is now somehow going to get them to a 16-0 season and a sweep through the playoffs. According to them, the rest of the NFL shouldn't even suit up this year because Jeremiah Trotter, Jevon Kearse, and Terrell Owens are Eagles now. Give me a break.

Every time they lose a game, the fans will act like the whole universe is collapsing. The Eagles will choke, just like they always do, in all the important games, and it'll be the same situation it always is -- the Eagles are the best team in the league and deserve to have won the Super Bowl, even though they can't so much as get there, much less win.

It's been a little tough on the ConcreteField board, too. There are maybe five people who don't think this is a good move, or at least that Trotter isn't "the greatestest linebacker since God played linebacker lolololol!" Alright that's an exaggeration, but it still ticks me off to see how many people are backpedaling on this.

Yeah, or Champ.
You see, it's the prodigal son returning home.
Mom and Dad were right. He was never gonna make it without them. Lesson learned, he comes back with his tail between his legs.
The fans love it because they feel he was man enough to come back and take the heat.

A parable from TC

I think Johnson will make good use of Trotter. He a down hill player we didn't use him that way, we let him try to cover RB #-o

Won't hear things like that from this Eagles fan. I just think that for the price the Eagles are paying, this is a no-brainer decision. He adds depth, he knows the system and JJ very well, and he's costing the Eagles basically nothing.

... and as GF already alluded to... Trotter can be locker room poison and he has probably degraded to the point where his attitude outweighs his abilities.

You see him as depth... I honestly see him being cut before the season even starts.

But maybe the humility of realizing that NOBODY wanted him will settle down his attitude. I mean really, the Vikings are so hurting for a linebacker I heard they were thinking about asking Butkus to put the pads back on

... and they didn't even give JT a sniff.

Simoneau's not all-world, but he does understand that the fundamental principle of being a MLB is discipline and staying at home... a principle that apparently eludes JT.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

And when Simoneau had a healthy line in front of him the run defense was ranked pretty high. With Trotter behind an equally healthy line I don't think it ever broke the top ten.
