Derrick Dockery Signs with the Cowboys

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

The Cowboys released G Montrae Holland today.

What does he have to do with Derrick Dockery?
In 2008 in Denver, Shanny took a disliking to Montrae Holland who has won a starting job the previous year, but came back the next year out of shape. Shanny rode him for two weeks in practice then shipped him off to Dallas. I don't think that Shanny ever disliked Dock, but it is interesting that Dock, a Shanny rejected player, takes the spot of Holland, a Shanny rejected player.

Dock may start for Dallas this week. I hate the Cowboys, but I want good things for Dockery.

I would love for good things to happen for DD also

it's encouraging to me that a so so offensive lineman like Dockery is considered good enough to 'start' for the pukes

Dockery may have been a decent O Lineman but his better days were with the Redskins a few years ago
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I agree. We cut him, I can't hold it against him to get a job in the NFL where he can.

LOL, let's not get all high & mighty. Our o-line is not all that.

 sorry - I certainly did not mean to imply that

this O line is STILL a bit of a concern and quality depth is definetly an issue too

my point - Dockery might be good enough for the pukes - he's not close to being good enough to even be a back up here - even as much as we need O linemen

IMO, he was good enough to play here if the scheme was different. His big frame isn't suited to the athletic runs our guys make. He's a good guy.

Dockery is no longer good enough - I agree that he doesn't suit the ZBS - fact is he's not good enough to be a starting lineman

I'm sure he's a good guy but the fact that he's starting for Dallas means they do not have very good linemen

I wish him well :D

True about the ZBS and not being athletic enough and that he is a good guy and a good guard, but let's not forget that the Bills released him as well. They found out that Dock also has focus problems which was an issue even with Buges. Buges always felt that Dock would overcome the focus issue, but he never did and never will, but one thing for sure, Dock can still knock someone's block off every now and then as a road grader.

hmmm...

From an exchange long ago in a galaxy far far away...

Chris Luva Luva wrote:The maybe Bugel didn't see that cornerback SHED DERRICKS BLOCK!!
That is inexcusable for a 300lb+ man.

DarthMonk wrote:I'm sure he did - if not live then on film Monday. And I'm sure he also saw a few pancakes of some bigger fellas. It's kinda hard for 300+ guys to stay on corners. Try blocking a chicken sometime. I wonder if Dock had anything to do with that last surging first down where Portis looked stopped. Probably just sealed some other 300+ guy off the backside or something stupid like that. Or the 28 plays Brunell faded back without getting sacked. Wonder if Dock had any good blocks on any of those plays. Oh wait - a corner got away form him once. He sucks. Sorry.

Chris Luva Luva wrote:Yes he sucks. He sucks because I remeber the play where he was clearly engaged with a corner 150lbS+ lighter than him who broke free and tackled portis. Lets not mention his NUMEROUS false start penalties.

DarthMonk wrote:Hey Chris - Joe Jacoby NEVER false started and a corner who probably ran a 4.3 NEVER disengaged from him to make a tackle either.

I guess you suck when you are an all-American but make a few mistakes at the pro level.

I'll give you this much - Dockery can improve but to say he sucks is just silly.

Pah-leez.

Chris Luva Luva wrote:Wuts that speed going to do when you're engage in a block? He's not running a 4.3 50 yard dash with a 300+ lineman on his back. DD was engaged in a block with someone 100lb+ lighter and was out MUSCLED! Not out ran.

DarthMonk wrote:Speed has a HECKUVA LOT to do with it. Unless Jacoby or any other NFL lineman HOLDS, the corner easily runs off the block. I coached O-line and DBs and played corner and it's a fact. We teach O-linemen to hit. Not even Jake could continuously "engage" a corner. Give me a break. You are wrong on this one ... and DD simply was not outmuscled. I've seen corners actually destroy blocks by all-PRO tackles by chopping. We teach them to give up their bodies on a sweep for instance in order to clear the way for the linebackers if necessary. No corner out muscles DD ... gets away ("disengages") or makes a good play maybe but not out muscles.

Those were the days. May Dock RIP with the evil empire.

At some point it is going to be easier to list the names of the Cowboys offensive players who aren’t dealing with injuries than the ones who are in need of medical attention.

For now, though, we’ll stick with the traditional way of dealing with things. The latest addition to the list is Derrick Dockery, who will miss Monday night’s game against the Redskins with a sprained MCL in his right knee and a fractured tibia. He suffered the injury against the 49ers, but, a la Tony Romo, he remained in the game until the end.

Dockery’s injury means that the Cowboys will actually revert back to their starting offensive line from the opening week of the season. Rookie Bill Nagy started at left guard in that game, but missed the 49ers contest with a neck injury that has healed enough for him to get back in the lineup for Week Three. Center Phil Costa missed practice on Thursday with a knee injury, but he is expected to play on Monday night.

All in all, it was wise that coach Jason Garrett downgraded Thursday’s practice to a non-contact session. We’re a couple of injuries away from Michael Irvin starting another reality show to find an entire offense for his old team.

I hope for Dockery's sake that he starts - he's hopeless

maybe he'll be responsible for one of our guys laying the puke QB out cold

gotta love that ol' DD is doing so 'great' - NOT
