OL vs DL

Post by GoSkins »

Are we at a point where a good DL has such an advantage over a good OL that the passing game is now more important than ever? Our running game was mediocre at best yesterday. And the Giants wasn't much either. Is this a trend or not?

The running game will improve. O line play is hurt the most by the short preseason.

when it mattered most ......thought the play calling was very solid ..... if a few balls wouldn't have been dropped it score could have been totally 1 sided

I don't think we ran enough...especially in the 2nd half when the Giants pass rush was killing Rex... Particularly on that drive where we were in FG range and gave up 2 sacks in a row. Sometimes you need to run to slow that rush down a little bit, even if it means one series of a 3 and out where you slam it into the line all three times. I also would like to see Torain get the rock once in a while. I like Hightower, but he's more of a homerun hitter. Torain could losen up the D by smashing it up in there a few times.

I disagree. I think we ran the ball pretty well early on until the Giants tightened up. They took away the run, so we threw the ball more.

That just seems like smart play calling to me.

it seemed to me that they figured out something in our run game and adapted to it and shut it down, and we failed to adapt in response over the entire 2nd half. i found that concerning.

I know others have said it, but I think the Giants just simply said, "We don't think Rex can beat us and we are going to make sure Hightower doesn't!".

They were wrong!

- o-line play took a drop cus it's the regular season and they're being planned against.
- the Giants have arguably the BEST front 7 in the league. their backups are prolly on par with our starting defense. their backups were better than our starters last year. case-in-point, we have one of their backups starting for us this year. lmao. put the kool-aid down people, realize this.
- the Giants PLAYED THE RUN. they dared Grossman to beat them and he did. I was shocked, u were shocked, Grossman was prolly shocked, the world was shocked.
- every team does not have that front 7, CALM DOWN. Everyone is panicking. Chill out. We'll run fine against the Cards.

Of course it's a trend. The NFL is a pass-first league now. We'll run some, but expecting us to run more than we pass or to even have a 50/50 split isn't based in any sort of reality. In the four games that Rex has started as a Redskins he's attempted 43, 39, 44, and 34 passes, respectively.

In the 13 games that McNabb started for us last year, he attempted less than 30 passes once. On the other hand, he attempted 35 or more passes 7 times, including 4 games of 45 attempts or more.

If you look around the NFL the trend is the same for most teams. Even the Jets are trying to open up their offense to be more pass heavy.

We ran all stretch plays early. Hightower had 25 carries. That's a lot these days. It projects to 400 for a year. We ran enough.

Near the end we went right at them and ran well. All those stretch plays set that up.

G-Men clearly came out intent on stopping stretch play. Could not stop it at goal line. Play calling and execution made G-Men pay. We ran on them late after ragging them out.
