Well, on reflection, England really weren't ready after all, lol. A win is a win is a win, but this was a very ugly performance. Only started to turn round after Ben Youngs came on at scrum half.

Just goes to show: you can prepare as meticulously as you like, try to cover every angle, but if you're a coach, you have little control over what happens when the team goes over that white line.

PS - I doubt that Jonny Wilkinson will have such a poor game again, ever.

PPS - can we now ditch that stupid black kit, and play in white again?

I get the games live in TSN2 as part of my satelite package ...

NZ is the team to beat in this RWC, for sure.

I wish we had plated the first half as we did the second. We will recover.

France looks very good too.

Scotland survived their own scare. They play well in the summer/autumn tests when it doesn't matter but tend to wilt under the pressure of a big tournament.

Can't wait until we start getting some of the big matchups.

And how about uniform numbers that don't rub off the first time a guy is tackled? I've never seen such a poor choice of uniforms in professional sports.

It was truly awful. I'm sure team management were on the phones during the game to the kit manufacturers - absolute embarrassment. England looked like a team of amateurs in more ways than one.

I wasn't talking about the rugby team, but we Americans don't fear anything French.

Fantastic result for the Irish today - that must have come as quite a shock to the Australians!

For some sick reason, when I first read this, my mind managed to combine your sentence with the reference to Skinsjock in the previous post - and voila! I concluded that you were walking around with an image of Holst's Jockstrap in your head.

I haven't even started drinking yet.

Have to admit that I thought the Wallabies would be able to handle the Irish guys but more power to them

I think it's a lot bigger deal for Ireland - it might mean they don't have to face the All Blacks until the final

The All Blacks should win this WC but no matter what the Wallabies will want to play them and beat them

The winner of the game between the All Blacks and the Wallabies is winning the 2011 World Cup
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I hadn't thought about the possibilities of Ireland vrs England & Wallabies vrs All Blacks

this would be the best match-ups for RWC 2011

I'll go with that too for this weekend

I may be picking with my heart to some degree, and not just with my head. Of course, you just don't know which English or French team will show up to play. Could be a close game, but I could also see it being lopsided in either direction if one team comes in unfocused (which is a real possibility for both). But since the French have really been mired in chaos this WC, I give the edge to England.

Wales vs. Ireland is tougher. Wales has been on fire recently. But I think ultimately Ireland has more talent and experience. And if the game turns into that stereotypical world cup style of play, with lots of kicking and slow play, I think Ireland has the advantage.

New Zealand is pretty obvious.

Aus vs. RSA is a wash. I'd rather see Australia win, so I pick them. Will Beale remain healthy? Can South Africa disrupt the Genia-Cooper combination? More than anything else, I see this game hinging on whether South Africa can slow Australia.

You guys never learn ... [-X

These are MY HOGNOSTICATIONS, they are not guesses. They are the right stuff.

So far:

England 12 - France 19
Ireland 10 - Wales 22

Waiting for SA and NZ to win today there, tomorrow here ... whatever.

So much for criticism against France's Team in this board

I hope you are wrong about RSA, RiC. South Africa is the one team I really dislike.

A France-Wales semifinal should be good. When France plays rugby at their best (as they did in the first half against England), it is something to behold.

Hard to see anyone slowing New Zealand down, of course.

Yes indeed, the "good" France turned up at the weekend, whilst the very worst of English rugby was on display. No complaints about that result from this Englishman (apart from the fact that losing to the French makes my skin crawl, of course).

New Zealand aren't really sweeping all before them, but they still have to be favourites. However, if they do beat the Aussies to get to the final, the All Blacks may face a real test. Both the Welsh and French are the sort of teams who can raise their games to previously unseen levels for 80 minutes.
