Frank Herzog, who was fired as the radio play-by-play voice of the Washington Redskins in February after 25 years behind the microphone, will provide the call for the telecast of the Redskins' preseason game at Miami on Aug. 21. The telecast will be produced by Comcast SportsNet and televised by WUSA-9 in the Washington area.
I would love to see the return to DC of JOE FOWLER to do play-by-play.
I know some of you remember that obnoxious sportscaster Fox 5 had in the early 80's. I had to have thrown my shoe at the tv a hundred times before he got canned just to show up on infomercials nationwide!!!!

Over! Nothing is over until we say its over. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor! Hell no! -- Future Sen. Blutarski.
I had a hunch they'd go back to a network guy for the local games.
Before Channel 4 -- and George Michael's ego -- got their hands on them, the local Redskins preseason broadcasts usually had a CBS announce duo doing them. The one I remember most is Stockton-Millen on Ch. 7.
Those net guys like to work local preseason games as "practice" games.
But that means a different announce team for each of the five games:

My dream booth:
Play-by-play: Steve Buckhantz Commentary: Sam Huff Commentary: John Riggins
Now that is an all-star team...
Riggo, SS3? All I've seen of him is a few side commentaries (I think things like "Keys of the Game" or other such spotlights), and I can't say that I was impressed whatsoever. Naturally I can appreciate your picking of Sam the MAN; but why doesn't Sonny make your list? How many times have we heard Sonny call the play as the Skins line up at the line of scrimmage--and get it right nearly every time?! "This will be just a little screen pass out to the right. . ."
Besides, I could almost guarentee that Sonny without Sam just wouldn't be that great--the two feed off each other like no other duo that I can think of in football broadcasting.
Riggins is on NBC4 all the time, and I think he's very intelligent. I have no complaints about Jurgensen, I just think Riggins would be better.
I LOVE Sam Huff. When he gets pissed off at the referees and won't stop talking about if for the entire quarter. Maybe Sonny and Sam do have some special chemistry, and if losing Sonny meant losing Sam, then I would definetly change my mind, because Huff is fantastic...

Not to mention, it's great to be able to focus on Sam mispronouncing guys names or completely mis-identifying people so you don't have to hear how bad the skins are playing. Hopefully, that won't be a problem any more....

I like Buckhantz alot, too. And I think Riggo is hilarious. In fact, during the "Dennis Miller" experiment, I thought he should've been considered for MNF. I know there are alot of Huff fans around, but jeez, that "folksy charm" that comes with getting ALOT wrong only goes so far for me. As for Sonny, I recall him saying something during Gibbs 5th game (and 5th loss) that realy stuck with me. "This just doesn't seem to be working and the Redskins may have to strongly consider makiing a coaching change." He does get alot right, I'm glad that wasn't one example.
My booth: Buckhantz & Riggo
My car doesn't go fast, but if you're important, people will wait for you.

Especially after a couple of beers, which I swear they must sometimes be pounding down up there.
ChiliPalmer, welcome back: where have you been?
I am in a state of ecstasy! Never mind that nonsense about euphoria and so on. It is sheer, unadulterated, uncompromising ecstasy!
