With several teams moving to the 3-4, the 3-4 talent pool is getting stretched thin. The Pats appear to be moving back to the 4-3 where the talent pool is strongest. Belichick, staying ahead of the crowd. This Belichick guy definitely knows how to win and keep winning (and he knows how to cheat too).
On his way out the door after getting cut by the Patriots, defensive lineman Ty Warren offered some thoughts about the future of Bill Belichick’s defense, saying the coach who long favored a 3-4 front seems to be moving toward a 4-3.
“I think it looks like they’re trying to get away from the 3-4,” Warren said, via Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com.
Warren got that feeling from the time he spent in team meetings before he was released, and the Patriots’ personnel at the moment appears to line up well in a 4-3 front, with Albert Haynesworth and Vince Wilfork as the starting tackles and Jermaine Cunningham and Eric Moore as the starting ends.
“That’s my whole outlook on the deal,” Warren said. “You have to play to your personnel too.”
Belichick has always been brilliant about identifying the right talent and putting that talent in the right position to succeed. Right now, shifting toward more four-man fronts and fewer three-man fronts may be the best way for the talent on the Patriots to succeed.
I think honestly [the 3-4 reliance] is something that’s a media fabrication,” Belichick continued. “There are a lot of different alignments out there, you see 4-3 teams use odd spacing, you see 3-4 teams use even spacing. Look, you have 11 [defensive] players. You can put them in various positions. Whether you want to put it in the pregame depth chart as one thing or another I think is a little bit overrated.”

Frankly, I think Belichick is sincere when he says this. He knows that there is huge value in running an eclectic defense that can shift from one model to another... can his players keep up? I don't know, but say what you will about him, if anyone can pull it off, it's him.

Below is my post on the Coach of the Year (COY) thread in Jan 2011. I am not a fan of the Patriots, but I respect Bill Belichick as a head coach and feel that he stays on top because he stays ahead of the game. Rarelt does a consistent winner win the COY. I thought he was the right choice for AP Coach of the Year announced in February 2011.

I would have to go with Bill Belichick for 2010 COY:
Last year, he went 10-6. This year 14-2. He had to deal with adversity. Randy Moss spouting off the mouth. He did what a lot of coaches wouldn't dare to do - release Randy Moss. Childress dared to and look where it got him. fter Moss was released the, Pats seemed sluggish and folks though they would fold - not only did they not fold, they got better. Belichick also took a NYJ reject, Woodhead and turned him into a important part of the Pats offense. Who says that only coaches who turn losing programs into winners should get to be COY. Take a look at each of the Pats positions, they have very few top 5 guys in their positions that play for them. Folks love to hate Belichick, but Belichick has his team competing year after year and this year, they are having a phenominal year with so little. Bill Belichick is my 2010 COY pick.
After Cutting cornerback Merriweather, none of the 9 2007 draft choices are on the Patriots. A quick look of the 2008 class shows only 3 of 8 on the roster.
This sounds like Vinnie. No wonder, Bill's defense has slipped horribly.
The Redskins will be like a few other teams on defense - they will vary alignments from the 3-4 and 4-3 and 5-2 - using both players and front 7 alignments that best suit defending what the opposing offense likes to do
most of the better defensive units now vary their personnel a lot - we'll be the same
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)
I thought him going for it on 4th down against the Colts a few years ago on his side of the 50 was a very good example of him being ahead of the crowd. They lost but I thought he made the right call and that it remains way ahead of the crowd.
Another example is his not adhering blindly to the 2-point conversion "chart." When they beat Carolina in the SB both teams had the same # of TDs and FGs but Fox went for 2 twice (early and mistakenly = blind adherence) and failed while Belichick tried once late and succeeded. Pats win by 3.
Fisher made the same mistake with the Titans against the Rams - went for 2 way too early in blind adherence. Most coaches do - even Parcells.

You should never go for two unless it is late in the game and you have to, or to make it a 3 or 7 point game rather than 2 or 6, but always late in the 4th qtr.
One exception: If you have an insurmountable lead on a divisional rival and you just want to run up the score.

Maybe you folks should move up here to where I live so your tongues and lips don't have to be so long to smooch Bill Beliscum's ***. He's a cheater and a fraud. He always has been and always will be.

No smoochin' here bro. He's just an excellent coach who's been known to cheat. I do not like him and I stand by my posts.
I have something you might want to smooch.
