These are Mike Shanahan’s Redskins now

Post by 1niksder »

Tandler: Only 15 pre-Shanahan Redskins left

The Redskins reduced their roster to the league-mandated maximum of 53 players on Saturday. On that roster there are only 15 players who were on the team when Shanahan arrived.

Doing the math, the 38 players who have arrived in the last 20 months represent a turnover of 72 percent. Talk about an extreme makeover.

If you look deeper into the remaining players you find that they have a strong home-grown flavor. Of the 15, the Redskins drafted nine (Chris Cooley, Reed Doughty, Kedric Golston, Rocky McIntosh, LaRon Landry, Fred Davis, Rob Jackson, Kevin Barnes and Brian Orakpo) and three more played their first NFL snaps in Washington (Mike Sellers, Lorenzo Alexander, and Byron Westbrook).

Santana Moss was acquired in a trade with the Jets. That means that from the Cerrato and Snyder era (and you can throw Joe Gibbs II in there), two free agents remain. London Fletcher came aboard in 2006 and DeAngelo Hall signed a short-term deal with the Redskins after the Raiders released him in the middle of the 2008 season. Hall signed a long-term deal the next offseason.

The 15 players who remain represent nearly 70% of the 22 starters...

True, but they weren't all starters before

Before Shanahan? Sure they were. Fred Davis being the only exception that I see.

As someone pointed out recently the term re-building implies there was something in place to build on - we did not have anything

this franchise has undergone a transformation - very good players have been replaced by players that might not be as talented but will give the Redskins a better chance at success
players that have stayed on have COMPLETELY bought into the Shanaplan or they would not be here

This IS Mike's team and it will continue to undergo changes until we have a consistently competitive product on the field
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

What nonsense. We had plenty to build on: Cooley, Moss, Armstrong, Banks, Williams, Fletcher, Orakpo, Landry, etc. Also, our very good players have not been replaced. We still have them. We haven't replaced very good players with less talented players; we have replaced inferior players with more talented players. Where do you get your mythical nonsense? Also, how do you know that our former and present players have COMPLETELY bought into the Shanaplan, which certainly doesn't deserve a clever name yet? Further, please be aware that our franchise is transformed every season with the addition and subtraction of players and that our team will continue to be transformed every year even when we have a consistently competitive product on the field.

anyone that is here is playing and practicing the way Mike wants and DEMANDS they do - otherwise they would not be here :D

ALL of these players have "bought into" the Shanaplan - Mike does not tolerate anything less

Mike is an ass but he's our HC and he's making this team and these players into what he wants NOT what ANY of them want

This IS Mike's team - and the players have to accept that OR they are gone

Good. So IF this team now fails, we won't be hearing anything about the Cerrato/Snyder/Zorn hangover effect, right? It's all on Mike to now either get the job done or get the hell out of town, right?

That's right - Mike gets to show that the 'plan' works or he's gone  that's the good news

the bad 'news' for any ANTI Redskins' fan is that he gets 2 more seasons = gotta love it

Mike's in charge here - and he's changing things up

I would say yes if given the full amount of time he needs, which he demanded from Snyder as being 5 years. My judgement will occur after year three. This is still a team that has a Cerrato hangover. We're only one season removed from him. Hell, we lost out on two or three draft years because of that fool.
Miss you 21

Watch the next few games - they should be on a TV near you

You will see players executing & playing DIFFERENTLY - with a DIFFERENT attitude & desire than before

It's a fact that some of these players were starting before Mike came in - they were NOT playing like you will see in the next few games

Mike has changed EVERYTHING here and while he needs more time - ALL of these players (& coaches) have "bought into" THAT

I am NOT a Mike Shanahan fan - he's NOT a fan or media or player friendly type - PLUS he has a HUGE ego

He's just what this franchise needed to COMPLETELY change the game planning & player preparation/practicing to properly prepare to play the NFL game

many criticized his player moves - his insistence on CHANGING everything, going to a 3-4 defense without the players to do it, bringing in McNabb & FORCING him to play the way that he & Kyle wanted him to, treating the players with ZERO respect

this guy is driven to succeed - NOBODY will get in his way, not even Kyle

I do NOT like Mike Shanahan - he's just what we (& our idiot owner) needed
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Mike's in charge here NOT Kyle - Kyle gets in Mikes way ONLY because that is what Mike wants

Mike would love for Kyle to become the HC here - that ONLY happens if Kyle earns it
Mike is the HC & has a lot of 'power' - Dan Snyder is still the owner
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance

Really? Mike didn't buy the team? Are you sure?

I think we have already seen several instances where Kyle's wishes were taken into account far more than any other OC's would have been.
